I'm still holding out hope that it will change (right now it's showing "teens" at night - which I can't do without a good chance of my pipes freezing), but I guess I better start packing up some stuff this week just in case.. Rats! :headache:

I LOVE snow, so send some to me and I'll send you some aussie sunshine.

Why can't you stay at the lake when it gets cold?:confused3
I would rug up on the lounge and drink hot chocolate:rotfl:

This is a seasonal place - which was never built for year-round use.. No insulation in the walls or ceiling; no basement; no central heat; and all of my water pipes are exposed..

I usually come up here in April - as soon as the snow melts - stay till late October/early November (depending on the weather) - and then go stay with my DD and her family for the winter..
:goodvibes

Thanks for the explanation C. Ann, I have no concept of seriously cold.
Spending the winter with your daughter sounds like fun and it must be beautiful getting back to the lake in spring.

Cheers

it has been such a weird year hasn't it? Sorry it took a turn for the worst :(

Well - we had "the summer that wasn't" (low temps; rain, rain, and more rain) - and fall was rainy too - but right now (the past 2 weeks) this is actually warmer than usual for up here.. I guess I'm just spoiled because I want it to STAY that way - LOL.. My theory is the longer I stay here, the shorter the time till I can come back again!! :thumbsup2

I just looked at the long term weather forecast - beyond next Sunday - and if it doesn't change, I may have to hit the road and leave the lake THIS coming weekend.. Noooooooo! I don't want to go! :(

Could someone down south send me some warmer temps? Please? PRETTY PLEASE????

I really was hoping to stay at least two more weeks.. Looks like I'll have to start packing tomorrow after all.. sob..choke..sniffle..

I want those warm temps too!!!

We have some warm weather we can share. Ten degrees for each of you and I then think it would feel like Fall here. :goodvibes

I'll trade you. I'll take teens any day over cold rain. Yuck!

I'll trade you some of your cold days for my hot ones, it has been too hot here and I like teh cold better.

Yep, you are more than welcome to some Florida sunshine! It's way too hot down here; I hate the hot weather (living in the wrong state, I know!) and would love some snow!

Won't your pipes freeze whether you are there or not?

No.. I have a gravity fed well, so we're able to drain all the pipes and shut off the valve where the water feeds down from the well.. The pipes that will "freeze" are the ones that are above ground (no basement) - but only if they aren't drained and we allowed the water from the well to continue to fill them.. Make sense? I'm not too good at explaining it.. LOL..

How deep can your well be? It would seem gravity fed would basically be surface water. How is that safe to drink?

C. Ann ... is it too costly to winterize your cabin? What if you make that your primary residence ... wouldn't you qualify for some of the energy efficiency rebates (tax or thru National Grid)?

Winter in the southern Adirondacks is beautiful ... and there's quite a bit to do, if you're so inclined.

Do you visit the cabin in the winter at all? Like for weekends, bringing up water, etc.?
