.....................

That is the frustrating part..that the vaccine isn't available in all areas..It seems they are getting it after it becomes widespread! I am in South Jersey and haven't heard of a lot of cases yet. My 5 year old has asthma and tends to get pneumonia during flu season...I have made up my mind to get him the vaccine..but I can't do it if it isn't here!

I called and they expect the nasal mist in two weeks..He can't have that..so I gotta wait until November..ugh.

we are going to the World first week in November..it makes me a little nervous...Please tell me it will be ok...please? lolol

They are telling us it will be close to Thanksgiving before many of us can get it.

The thing that scares me is that I was a dr appt with a friend the other day and that doctor told her NOT to get it.

So what is the point if people don't actually GET the vaccine. (I am not faulting any one person for getting it or not...just wondering what happens if very few people get vaccinated?)

Did anyone think food poisoning?

400 people at the same event and a few days later they are all sick? Hmmm...

According to the former teacher my DD has kept in contact with, it was definitely flu-like symptoms - complete with fever and cough.. I haven't watched the news today, but if I hear anything more I'll update..:goodvibes

Having had food poisoning several times myself (once from food in a hospital cafeteria - LOL), I never had muscle aches and pains, fever, or coughing.. Vomiting, diarrhea, and SEVERE stomach and intestinal pain ruled the day.. Not something I ever, ever want to have again!

C. Ann ... I don't know what school district has nearly 400 kids out today, but Shenendehowa (probably one of the largest, if not the largest, district in the Alb/Sch/Troy area) has one verified H1N1 flu case, and nothing else. They don't list anything on their website about a large number of absences due to illness, nor is there anything in the newspaper.

It could be that there's plenty of "regular" flu going around & that's why so many kids were out, and the H1N1 vaccine wouldn't have prevented that.

Yes - I think I heard that a few days ago - as well as the cases at RPI.. I think there were only 4 at RPI (in Troy), but I'm not sure.. The most recent cases (including the school with the 400 students out yesterday), have all been in Rensselaer County.. Is Shen. in Albany county? I can't remember..

So far I haven't heard of any cases in the school district where my DD and her family live now (Saratoga county), but they did receive the literature about what to expect, what to do, etc.. There "may" be a H1N1 vaccination clinic through the school district, but no concrete decision on that as of yesterday..

No offense to anyone, but if it skipped Saratoga and Schenectady counties completely, that would make me very happy.. LOL ;)

According to the CDC - 99% of all cases of flu right now are H1N1. The "regular" flu is not circulating in the US at this time.

My DH and DD (3 years old) got the vaccine yesterday in the Nashville area. I am pregnant so have to wait for the shot to get here (only have the mist right now, and hope to have the shots within 2 weeks). We have had two deaths in our mid size town so I don't want to take chances. The most recent was a 6th grade girl with no prior health problems. She died within 24hours of getting the H1N1 diagnosis. I think it will get worse. This is so sad.

That is so sad..:sad1:

I hope you are able to get the shot very soon.. It's too bad it wasn't available sooner - it's so widespread now..

No one is reporting it as H1N1 because no one is doing lab testing for H1N1 outside of hospitalized cases. The flu has been widespread in middle TN for a month and a half, but we have had no official reports of the presence of flu in our schools because they aren't officially testing for it. This doesn't mean kids who are absent don't have swine flu, it just means the schools don't have to officially report it as such.

I know where the 6th grade girl lived, so I am assuming you don't live in Davidson County. Did your DH and DD get the shots in Metro even though you don't live there, or does your health dept. have it? I was thinking of getting my DH to go get it since he is not high risk, but we don't live in Davidson Co, so I wasn't sure he could. (I am in Williamson.)

Either I am totally out of the loop or we have been lucky here in my part of NC. So far I haven't heard any reports of an outbreak in any of our schools. Both of my children have gotten the regular flu shot but not the H1N1. It is hard to decide whether to get the other shot. The swine flu came through in the mid 1970's and it fizzled out. Has there been any report comparing that time and today?

I am in Rutherford - our health dept started yesterday. Have you called Williamson? They haven't even advertised that they have it here. I just called and they said they were starting that day. I couldn't believe they haven't gotten it out in the news yet. I wonder that, too, about if you have to be a resident of that county. I almost drove to the Davidson clinic on Tuesday. I hope you can track it down - I have been a nervous wreck trying to get it for our family. Now, DD needs one more in 30 days and I need the shot when it comes out since I am pregnant. I am assuming DD has some protection after the first dose, but I should have asked.

There is a shortage of the seasonal flu vaccine in my area also. We actually managed to snag one today at our Walgreens store. Hopefully DS18 can get one this weekend at Target when he is home on fall break.

Could an 11 year old get the regular seasonal flu shot at a CVS flu shot clinic? There will be one in my DD's area at least 2 weeks before the pediatricians office will be getting more..

I figured you were in Rutherford because I saw the sad story about the private school closing on Monday in memory of the 6th grader who died. So sad.

I do think your daughter will have SOME protection after 10 days or so, just not the optimal protection she will have after a second dose. I read this in an article yesterday, possibly on the WKRN website, but it could have been elsewhere.

I am going to call our health department tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know your family got it in your own county. I wish the state would have some kind of list to update where it is available.

I hope you are able to get the shot soon. It sounds silly, but I can't wait to get it! I will feel so much better once I know I have some protection.

Exactly--our schools are collecting information on the number of kids with "flu-like symptoms". More than 5% of our student population was out with flu-like symptoms. Today and tomorrow are state teacher convention days so hopefully that will slow the spread down. They are reporting this information to the new sources and on the district website.

Yes, we have taken our kids there for several years. They even file your insurance for you-which ours pays 100% for all vaccines so that was nice.

Yesterday I was in a house we are buying and we were having it inspected. The family was supposed to be out while we had our inspector there, but they stayed home with their 2 kids who tested positive for the A strain of the flu. They had a big bottle of hand sanitizer, and I felt like dousing myself in it. ;) Their kids are getting better, they say, which is good.
