Is that the same person that likes to come to your fireside chats? IIR she's a hard one to get away from and likes to drop by. Overbearing. Is that the one?

That would be the one.. In 2006, I was able to escape one of said person's appearances up here by taking a totally unplanned trip with my cousin (remember that?), but that cousin's DH is very ill right now and I really shouldn't be spending money on a trip anyhow.. So - I will "go away" into my world of books..:rotfl:

That person in my life would be my brother. He was here in June. My father got very ill and he told me not to take him to ER - just to wait a couple of days.

I called 911 anyway. My father was hospitalized for about a month (very, very ill at 88), went to rehab and is now living in a retirement home.

I just got news he is coming in August - but fortunately I will be GONE. I can't tell him not to come as he owns this house. Now that my dad has moved out I need to get out of here soon myself. I've been taking care of my dad for about 8 years.

I remember she was very persistent! Just remember the magic word, "contagious".

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad.. At least you can "escape" from your brother.. Small consolation, I know..

Someone is paying attention..

Said person will also be returning for 14 days the end of this month and into September.. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a "relapse" then..

Looks like more than a few of us have been paying attention (or spending too much time here - yikes, another whole year gone!)

Forever?! Well, that stinks.

I'd probably start with being very busy a lot. Then since you will be moving within the same circles, you're going to need a strategy you can live with so you can enjoy your friends and family too.

You may try being frank about topics you don't want to discuss. Don't know if that would work with her. If she just has a generally abrasive personality it will be tough to be around her no matter what you do. Didn't you say you read a book about toxic people recently (on the book thread)? I was wondering about that book to read myself. Did it have any tips?
