Just ignore it... unless it was a personal, chatty email. In that case I would just say that you don't really have the time or desire to join.

I get invitations all the time and just ignore them. I am not interested in Facebook either. I don't think it's rude to ignore the invites. My DH does enjoy Facebook because he likes to play Mafia Wars. Sometimes I will write a comment on my DD's stuff using DH's account.

I'll have to be an oddball and say DON'T IGNORE THE EMAIL. That would be rude. Simply write back, thank them for the invite, but explain that you are not interested or don't have the time to join Facebook. We learned in Sociology that ignoring emails is a form of snobbery. (?? :confused3) Just write back and politely decline the offer.

All the facebook invites I've received are the generic ones someone sent out from the facebook website. I ignore them. There is no way it can be considered snobbery to ignore that kind of email. The sender won't even know whether I received it because it could have been seen as junk mail.

Certainly, if it is a personal email from their own account I would answer.

If it's a personal e-mail, then I'd simply reply and say "Thanks for letting me know about your Facebook page, but I don't do Facebook and don't really want to get into it".

Yeah, the generic ones from the Fbk website I ignore all the time. I was thinking the OP meant an email from the relative themselves, writing a personal invite. Nothing rude about sending those robotic emails straight to the trash.

If is was actually from her, and not an automated email from facebook, you could just say something simple like, "Hey, it was great to hear from you. I'm not on facebook, but I'd love to keep in touch with you via email.":goodvibes

Sorry I misunderstood your question, C. Ann. I assumed you meant the generic email invites to be a friend to someone on Facebook. Those are the type I ignore. They are computer generated from your email address book. If it was a personal invitation from a friend, then I would respond. (though still decline the offer). :)

I was VERY hesitant to join Facebook and finally did a year ago. It really has been a lot of fun, however I have plenty of friends who have no interest and I am certainly not offended by it. Just tell her "No, thanks". I can't imagine anyone over the age of 14 getting hurt feelings because of something like this.
