Do you use Internet Explorer? I don't know about changing the colors for the DIS, but if you go to the top Toolbar in I.E., click on TOOLS, then click on Internet Options, at the bottom of the grey box, you will find two buttons for changing Colors & Fonts. But, this will universally change the colors & fonts for almost ALL the web pages you visit.

Also, you can change the font size on your DISPLAY properties on your computer to a bigger size, if that helps. It made a world of difference for me. :goodvibes

maybe get better lighting. just trying to be helpful. are you at home or at the lake.

Thanks for that info.. :) As you can see, I'm still "experimenting" here - LOL..

I did a change of font size through the display properties on my desk top one time and it created all kinds of problems for me, so I'm a little afraid to try it on my lap top..

I know what you mean. It can be very tricky to change the font sizes or your web pages won't appear as they normally do. The trick is to change the size a little at a time, until they are just big enough to read comfortably, but the webpages don't appear differently.

Two ways to try, if you get bold enough to try:

On a clear space on your Desktop, right mouse click, click PROPERTIES. Then click on APPEARANCE. At the very bottom, you can change the font size to LARGE. That may be just enough for you.

A second way, is once you've clicked on PRPOERTIES, clcik on SETTINGS. The click ADVANCED. You will see a button for DPI Setting. Click on CUSTOM SETTING. Ir will bring up a little font ruler bar. You can SLOWLY inch the font size bigger, just a touch and see if the new size works better for you. I was able to change the font size up to 126% (for my laptop monitor) before the webpages got all wacky looking. :thumbsup2 But, maybe 110% may be enough for you, as it may only seem to bold the type more for you.

If not, change it back to 100%. OR, you can do a System Restore to yesterday's date, and your computer will go back to the way it was. :surfweb:

Yes, C.Ann, maybe there are a few garage sales by you up at the lake and you can pick up a really cheap reading lamp. Or change the wattage of the lightbulbs. The lampshades might be thicker than the ones you normally have at home.

You said you are posting from a laptop? The beautiful thing is you can take the laptop over to a better light source. Its portable. ;) I second either a stronger light bulb or better types of lighting.

Have you tried changing the theme at the bottom of the main page of the boards? I have found some of the colors in some of the themes very difficult to read. That might help too.

You know what....I only have 3 choices now. Anyone else have that issue?

I went on vacation last week, came back and I only have discreet, spinxtest, and default.

I don't know what happened?:confused3

The themes are on vacation THIS week. :surfweb:

C.Ann - sometimes my eyes get all "squiggly" when I've been staring at something too close for awhile - like maybe you were doing staring at your laptop screen last night. Just a thought.

But going to the eye doctor is a good idea anyway just to make sure it's nothing serious.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.. :goodvibes

I'm sitting here with a 150 watt gooseneck light right next to me.. Don't think I can go any brighter than that.. LOL

On a more serious note though, everything around me - if at all possible - needs to be white or I constantly feel like I'm sitting in the dark.. I kept passing all of these problems off to needing new glasses, but then something happened last night - just as I was getting off the DIS - that kind of frightened me.. All of a sudden I couldn't see clearly - as in "squiggly" lines in my vision.. I think I need to skip the idea of going to Lenscrafters for new glasses now and make an appointment with my son-in-law's eye doctor instead - just to be sure there's nothing serious going on.. It takes quite awhile to get an appointment with him, but I'll see if I can get on a cancellation list..

Although my health insurance doesn't cover "vision", would it cover any sort of eye disease, glaucoma, or anything like that? I refuse to jump to conclusions, but the logical thing to do at this point (especially after last nights incident) is to go and get the best eye exam I can get and the heck with the cost..

If I get nervy today, I'll try to fiddle around with the font size on my lap top.. Thanks for the instructions! :goodvibes

C.Ann, in light of what you posted regarding declining vision and the sudden appearance of "squiggly" lines in your vision, you need to see an eye doctor ASAP. That's a pretty significant change. When you call to make an appointment, make sure you mention your recent dramatically declining vision and the squiggly lines....it may get you in pretty quickly.

As far as big font meaning shouting??? I always thought on the Internet that capital letters meant shouting? Now big font does too? And there are actually people who think you are shouting at them based on the size of your font and not based on what's in the post itself?

I tend to "read" shouting into posts when it is a "heated" discussion, like some of the political ones used to be, or when I saw ALL CAPS. Never when I saw big font. When I saw big font, I just figured people liked big font. Silly me. ;)

---------------------

Okay.. I'll mention all of that.. Still holding out hope that it's nothing serious though.. No sense worrying when I haven't been told there's something to worry about.. (Gotta remain loyal to what I've learned in my CBT therapy..;))

It wasn't the "big" font that was the issue - according to the info I was given - it was the "bold black" that was being considered as "shouting".. I was always under the impression that using all CAPS was shouting - at least that's the way it is on other message boards.. (But this isn't "other" message boards - is it? LOL..) If any "color" was going to be considered "shouting", you would think it would be bold red - in a very large font - but what do I know? :rotfl: I'm just glad that someone was nice enough to point out what others were assuming - so I could "correct the errors of my ways"..

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the silliness of things that people get all in a tizzy about..:lmao:
Yes, you do.

Meanwhile, call the eye doc Monday. ;)

Carol - Do you have an America's Best Contacts & Glasses anywhere close to you? They usually run specials - exams and 2 pair of glasses for about $69.

I don't know how old you are, but eyes definitely get worse with age -- usually around 40. I know, without my glasses, I can barely read at all these days and at one point I had 20/20 vision.

Not sure how much help bolding your posts will be, or changing the color. It still won't make it any easier to read anyone else's posts. :confused3

...................................

Left click on your mouse and hold it that way as you run it across an entire post.. See what it does? It becomes "white" print on a very bright royal blue.. The "white" print is easier for me to read against the contrast of the royal blue.. As I said earlier, "white" seems to be very important with whatever is going on with my eyes.. Contrast seems to be extremely important in order for me to be able see clearly right now.. It's very strange and not easy to deal with..

Earlier this evening my DD, her DH, and my DGD came in to invite me to go out to dinner with them.. I was sitting here with my 150 watt bulb shining right next to me - plus 4 ceiling fan lights on (60 watts each) - and they couldn't believe that to me, it still seemed "dark" in here..:sad2:

I suppose I could start googling "eye conditions", but I'm not going to go there.. I'll see a "real" eye doctor as soon as I can get an appointment and let him decide if it's time to start worrying or not..

:thumbsup2 Gottcha! Couldn't figure out how only solving 1/2 your problem would help, but you've covered all your bases. :)

Hope whatever it is is minor, or temporary, and your doctor is able to help with minimal treatment.
