My DD will be celebrating her 21st B-day next month. I'm looking for something special but I just can't think of anything. For her 18th B-day, we gave her a necklace, ring and earrings with her birthstone. She loves it and wears it often but I just can't think about what to get her for this special birthday.

She is a college student living in a dorm, majoring in Special Education. She recently bought a used car (04 Focus) but she doesn't need anything for it (except to pay it off :rotfl: ). She already has a digital camera, lap-top, iPod...and we're going to get her a TV for Christmas.

Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated!

How about bags....like:

* Coach bag or other designer bag
* Luggage or overnight bag or LL Bean rolling duffle bag
* Briefcase/messenger bag that will hold lap top

or:

* diamond earrings
* favorite childhood and family photos scanned on a cd or photobook (that could take a while, though!)

I don't know if this is her thing, but could you get her things that will help with her career. Maybe some resource books, gift certificates to a local teaching store or Staples. I always try to buy my mom something for her classroom, something she wants/needs but won't spend the money on herself. Maybe a day at the spa, if that's something up her alley.

For my 21st birthday my mom gave me the night off, but I had a two month old at the time. It was the best birthday present ever.

Good luck, my mom told me I'm getting harder and harder to shop for ... I told her all I want is a vacuum and a Mickey Mouse waffle maker.

My friend recently did this, she made a money tree, but used gift cards instead...

Gas Station
Grocery Store
Favorite Restaurants
College Book Store
All Purpose (Visa)
Pharmacy
Prepaid Calling Card
Favorite Clothing Store
Home Depot

Then also stuck a few 5's and 10's to "green" it up.

She just sprayed a branch, put some snow glitter on it, then used ribbon to hang the cards. She folded the $$ like fans w/ the ribbon folded b/t it to hang. She filled a vase w/ glass pebbles to hold the branch (they have very pretty vases/pebbles at Dollar Tree).

Her dd thought it was the greatest thing ever!!

My daughter wants to go Sky Diving for her 18th Birthday! Good Grief! she is going to kill me yet.

If she is not into Sky Diving, I really understand, but something I have always wanted to do is go Hot Air Ballooning

If that is still not her thing, maybe you two could have a Spa Day together>

Give her memories, pictures of those wild events, are a life time of stories to tell. Hard to buy that.

How about taking her to a really really nice dinner and let her order the wine. Arrange in advance for her to be carded and for the waiter to bring champagne along with the wine. She'll feel "legal" and you can sip the champagne to celebrate.

As for a gift, either heirloom jewelry or cash.

How about a keychain from Tiffany? I have 2 DDs and they look for that blue box whenever there's a special occasion.

I was going to suggest something from Tiffany's. The sterling silver line is very nice and pretty affordable.

You mentioned that she was at school. When I turned 21, I was away from home and one thing my parents did was send me flowers. I had never had flowers sent to me before and it was really special. I think the rest of my gift was money, but getting the flowers is what I remember. Good Luck!

How about a good watch if you want to go for jewlery

I received a good nice watch for my 18th birthday from my parents and I've worn it nearly every day since then, it's been 5 years.

I absolutely think it was one of the best gifts ever up there with the trip to London for my 16th birthday and the trip to Arizona as a college graduation gift. My family does short vacations instead of parties/tangible gifts for big events!

I second this idea! A really nice watch would be a luxurious and practical gift that she would get alot of use out of!
