i have to work saturday and monday. I am celebrating on sunday with my girls, at my oldest's house.

I was just thinking about this. The weather isn't looking as nice for Monday so I am thinking of just celebrating on Saturday/Sunday and doing a low key day at home on Monday, and maybe cook out if we can.

The gentleman I mentioned in my first post just arrived a short time ago, so as soon as it gets dark I'll be heading over there for the campfire..

Guess that will be my "kick off".. A real "test" for him this weekend, but we're all going to keep him as busy as we can..:goodvibes

You are a good friend C.Ann.

If it doesn't stop raining here, no one's going to be doing much of anything all weekend. We saw our first bit of blue sky for the first time in a week or so this morning but it only lasted an hour or two. Now we're back to thunderstorms again. *sigh*

I'm about to put an order in for an ark!

We'll spend the weekend remembering those that gave their lives for our country. On Monday we'll get together for dinner with my mom. For us, Memorial Day is not a weekend of celebrating and partying.

I think most everyone remembers our veterans on Memorial Day - my late DH was a Korean war veteran - however it has also become a long weekend for many people which results in it being the "kick off to summer".. There's no reason that people can't do both - and my DH would be the first to agree..:thumbsup2

Just on Monday for me. Going to the 'races' with a group of friends. The rest of the weekend is all last minute shopping/planning for vacation the week after next.

If by "celebrating" you mean doing housework and repairs that we never have time for. then yes, all 3 days. With some racing and BBQing and fireworks in there somewhere.

I got off of work today at 230pm, and tonight I'm going to a BBQ at DBF's parents house. Yummy steak, and just hanging out enjoying the beautiful evening. The rest of the weekend will be more working and just relaxing.

Well, we were planning a quiet and productive weekend at home. Unfortunately, we learned yesterday that a family friend was killed in Afghanistan yesterday when his chopper went down. It was his last tour and he was retiring after 20+ years. It looks like we may be going to a funeral, but that may get ruined by DH's employer (French company) that has scheduled work for him on Monday. (Ingrates!) It does bring proper perspective to the day though. My Dad's a vet and he always stresses that we should honor the fallen ones on Memroial Day. I like to also remember the families of those heroes for their own sacrifices so that we may all be safe and free.

Monday we'll be going to a National Cemetery near us and looking at the rows and rows of markers with flags. I always read some of the markers, so many young men. The Secret Service agents who died in the pursuit of John Wilkes Booth are buried there and I always pause and say their names.

agnes!

I completely agree with your dad. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance. My dad, may he RIP, was a WWII vet. :thumbsup2
