Does anyone know why the 20K submarine ride works in DL Paris but has been scrapped/abandoned in the 2 US parks? What was done differently to make it work in europe?

Disneyland Paris has a 20,000 Leagues "attraction" it is not a "ride". You can go onto the sub and walk around and it has "theater" type area (only a few rows) where you can sit and watch the octopus attack (pretty neat, looks like you are at the helm...very well done). But the sub itself does not move around tha lagoon (it is stationary).

I miss that ride! I remember it as a little girl. If they can't bring it back I wish they would try something similar--under the water type attraction. From pictures I've seen it looks like they're filling in the lagoon. :(

I also loved 20K Leagues as a kid. Recently, though, while changing some of my Dad's old home movies over to video, I got a look at some of the footage from the ride. While kids would probably still like it, I think adults would find it a snoozer.

I have a feeling that our memories of it might be sprinkled with some pixie dust to make it seem better than it was. The creatures in the water just sat there while you slowly rode past them. Today's technology is far superior. What would be great is an updating of the ride, with either underwater animatronics or even Mission: Space type things added to it.

I could be wrong; IASW is pretty low tech and still as charming as it ever was.
