I was wondering, when contracts are up in 2042, or whatever year it may be for that contract ending, does anyone know what happens?

I imagine it will be like that scene in SW Revenge of the Sith, with Anakin leading the Clonetroopers into the Jedi Temple.:rotfl2:

I'll be 89 in 2057, but they're gonna hafta drag me out!

I will be 84 when my ownership in SSR expires. I have a great idea! Disney could get into the Assisted Living business. We could all go to our respective resorts to live out our remaining years. They could turn the Buena Vista golf course into a nice grave yard. you could sign up for this option a year before your resort is set to expire.

What happens is exactly what it says in your contract. You (or your heirs) no longer have anything as far as DVC goes.

Does anyone think that, as the 2042 date approaches, current owners will at some point be given a chance to extend their "ownership" for more $$$? I know no one knows, but what is your gut feeling on this? :confused3

I expect that Disney will take it all back.

I received a DVC survey a little while back asking if I would be interested in continuing my contract past 2042. So I guess they're already thinking about their options.

I will be 106 when my SSR contract expires....but please no big headstones on the golf course....i hope I can still play :rotfl:

I think this is the single best post I've ever read on the DIS.

The field of mouse shaped headstones would become a tourist attraction all by itself.

In all seriousness, what a wonderful way to live out the rest of your time, if you do need to live in care center. I actually like the idea.

I think that Disney will either have a major 'repurposing' of the existing resorts...

What will happen is that we will all get together at the BWV for a "Burning of the Expired Contracts" :charac2: event and mourn our loss as the flames reach up to the heavens. Then, when there's nothing but ash left we'll walk to Epcot :drinking1 and go drinking around World Showcase carrying/drinking/refilling a Yard and a Half of beer. Once we've made the loop a few times we'll forget why were even there (we'll be REALLY old, ya know) and just go home.

What will happen is all those foolish enough to stick with the older resorts instead of Dumbo71's trading up advice will be kicking themselves. Also their heirs will be dancing on there graves in anger if they already passed.

I can hear it now from Johnny inheritance child: " Man if only my parents had listened to Dumbo71 and his excellent advice we'd have more years to enjoy or we could have sold the thing. Instead all we can do now is use these contracts to start our fire." :sad1:

Repeat after me: Get out of those older contracts in the next 5 years or you'll really be kicking yourselves. There is no end if you go to the Dumbo71 trade up school.:teacher:

If they built a new resort with a location comparable to BWV, trading up wouldn't be a bad idea. But I don't want SSR or AKV as my home resort since I don't want to be limited there at the 11-month window (or ever at SSR). Even CRV I don't want as my sole home resort. Small add-ons at AKV and CRV, probably, but not my main home.

Also, keep in mind that WDW has only been around for some 35 years, and we are projecting out another 35 years. Who the heck knows what WDW will be at that time, if we even want to stay there, or what kind of shape the resorts will be in. I don't concern myself with what will happen in 2042, let alone 2057 and beyond for the newer resorts.

My "kids" will be in their 70's I'll be 102, so WHO CARES I just hope someone will be able to dance. Seriously if DVC and WDW are still popular I'm sure Disney will offer something, especially if the resorts are still in good shape.
Dumo71 is right at least about OKW might be good to think about selling in the next few years and buy into the newer resorts. Unless of course you are a diehard OKW lover, BWV, VWL and BC might be hard to part if you want the location. And of course the off site locations are probably owned for the location as well with no comparable replacement available. But to go from OKW to SSR seems like an even trade.
AM I GOING TO GET HURT FOR THIS POST?:scared1:

You know, it's funny you say that. My wife's first reaction to driving around SSR was "it looks like an assisted living community for old people"! :rotfl:
