..

I'm miffed about the soda tax. :headache: And the cable tax. And the MTA raising fares. And the health care stuff....

I'm trying to find out how much longer I have to live here. :headache:

All those new taxes are shocking. :scared1: Sadly, I have a feeling the rest of America will soon be in the same boat. My hunch is that we are preparing to enter an era of taxation like nothing we have ever seen before. We should all be ready for government at all levels to tax our pants off.

The 18% tax on non-diet soft drinks was actually referred to as an "obesity" tax!!!

Ok maybe I live to far out in the woods but what the heck...

18% tax on soda.

May as well pass one on beer so if you get hurt buy a DWI driver you can get some money from that fund.

And yes I am against drunk drivers. Had a good buddy lose his dad to one.

Ron.

I agree.:scared:

Don't worry...that's on the list of "things to be taxed" (more) also.

Wow sorry to hear this for you guys up there.

Ill stay here in Fl for a bit.

Ron.

Why would overtime be included in the determination of pension pay? That does not seem logical to me. If you were buddies with your boss and he or she wanted to give you a farewell "gift", boss could just make sure you were the one to get all the ot, thereby forever benefitting you.

I agree that many states will be facing hard times.

Sorry but Gov. Patterson has NO business being in office. I can understand he took over for Spitzer but he shouldn't just get to sit there...I wouldnt' have voted for him.

Please, keep taking money away from our schools. Oh and while you are at it, put a hiring freeze on state workers again. The mentally challenged adults my dbf works with don't need people taking care of them...

That's why I'm happy to live in Florida with a governor who keeps thinking that 3.2 billion dollar deficit is nothing.

I just read about some of the new taxes proposed and some were just whacky! A 5% tax on jewelry over $X (I think 20k, but not sure). Why would anyone in their right mind purchase in NY, if you could purchase outside of NY and not pay this new tax? The same on yachts over $200,000. It seems like you are just driving purchasers out of NY to buy a high ticket item elsewhere. The folks that are stuck are the ones who can't travel elsewhere to escape the other taxes.

I agree, all it's doing is putting more and more people out of work. :sad2:

Why can't politicians just cut their spending, instead of punishing their constituents? I really feel sorry for NY citizens; even ipod downloads are going to be taxed!

I told DH to just put all the names of the states in a hat, and the one we pick is the one we're moving to! Our property tax bill just came and I haven't worked up the nerve to look at it yet!:scared:

Either that or you are going to lose services. Can't have it both ways. Philadelphia is not raising new taxes but they are closing Fire stations and it is cutting all Holiday affairs. No mummers day parade, no fire works nada.

Bottom line is that all cities are in a major financial straits.

Because people don't like that either. Philly is cutting their spending.
-Closing 4 fire stations
-Cancelling all holiday events
-Hiring freeze on all municipal workers (including policemen)

now how well do you think that's going over? Unfortunately John P. Public wants it all ways. We want great schools, lots of police, city services and no taxes. Not gonna happen.

Yes! By all means CUT BACK! The ridiculous spending must be curbed. Government's never ending insistency on maintaining and interfering in people's lives from the cradle to the grave must end soon or we will all be slaves to taxes. Keep those things that are essential and end the rest. The spending mania has gotten so out of hand that government nor the people can discern any more what is essential and what is not. :sad2:

Aah but that's the problem Zip. Can John P Public discern any more what is essential? forget government spending, look to the private sector...and the credit collapse we are now facing. Check out this link on PBS. It's all about the retirement crisis and how most baby boomers are ill prepared for old age and how they will rely on the government. I'm not talking a few irresponsible people, we're talking millions of folks who in the next few years will need what you call "interfering".
I totally agree we can no longer discern what's essential and what is not but I'm afraid the genie is no longer in the bottle and I not sure we will be able to handle living on whats only "essential"

NY is also planning on closing a number of firehouses for overnight hours, in each of the 5 boroughs.
Yes, the entire US is in this together, whether we realize it or not.
