2030 Winter Olympic host to be annouced next week (July 24). Sweden, Switzerland, United States, Canada, Japan are bidding to host.

No. I don't even watch winter Olympics anymore. And summer I just watch a few events.

I loved when we hosted summer and attended several events or just hung out ... but not sure I'd want to host again. They are expensive to host, they cost lots of local businesses money and safety is a big issue for me.

Nope don't care and don't watch. Countries hosting the Olympics tend to be saddled with HUGE costs for venues that will never be used after the games are over. WAY too much money spent when some still act like this is the 1950's and we need to prove our athletic prowess to the rest of the world. The whole notion of 'amateur' athletes has long since gone out the window as well.

And the Olympic committee keeps adding new sports with this head in the sand approach. I still laugh when I see 'rhythmic gymnastics' where they dance around and twirl ribbons. When did that even become a sport?.................LOL.

We did it right and should be a model for others ...

The 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, turned a profit of $19 million, and the city did not end up in debt. The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), a non-profit organization, spent about $1.7 billion over six years to stage the games, relying on private funding instead of government support.

We had a 5 billion dollar impact to the local economy overall.

THIS^ We are watching professionals compete for trophies. AND we have people competing for countries they only have citizenship via ancestry, which I don't agree with.

Do you feel the same way about the world cup?

I don't love athletes competing for countries of their ancestry either. But I do think the Olympics should have a representatives from as many countries as possible and sometimes the only way to get competitors is through ancestry.

In what way?

If you mean hosting and the costs ... I don't think there will be any new venues built for the World Cup by us. Our team's venue holds over 70,000. All matches are playing there. We have several good practice locations throughout the city. There really shouldn't be any cost to the area other than increased security (which will be huge), the rest would be commercial and private investment. DH & DS are excited and plan to enjoy the atmosphere even if they can't obtain tickets. At this point I will not be going anywhere near it.

If you mean professionals playing ~ apples and oranges. Olympics were supposed to be amateurs but we were one of the only countries that didn't cheat. So now it's just a world professional competition. Less special? yes. Add in all the corruption, not interested really. I'll watch Track & Field, maybe Soccer because those are the sports we follow.

EDITED TO ADD: If you mean competitors playing for countries they ancestry citizenship, I disagree with that as well but I don't think it is as common on soccer.
