No they actually dont need to be activated in person when purchasing from ticketing, sometimes it just says go directly to gate, idk why. Its a complaint that ive seen some direct members having as well.

We met a couple at VB that did this and they are resale.

The last DVC AP I purchased new was a Gold AP and it had to be activated in person so this was awhile ago. I guess it's YMMV now.

The website automatically restricts FL-resident and DVC products based on affiliation so I guess calling and getting an uniformed CM benefits people looking to circumvent what they are eligible to purchase.

Yes it seems like getting an uninformed cast member is quite common these days lol

Regular Disney ticketing no longer lets DVC owners buy Sorcerer online. They tell you to call MS who then verifies.

Yes, there are times when it gets through but it has tightened up a lot.

As of when? Because these people i spoke to got them this year and they were resale. Its not supposed to happen but it does is all I was saying. The inconsistencies remain a problem.

They started cracking down again this year. And that more reports of people not being allowed.

Just like with more CMs being told to look for DVC Y.

But, as you say, some allow it to get through.

The reports of people slipping through the cracks have gotten much fewer and farther between. Someone might get accidentally pixie-dusted from time to time, but at this point it's definitely unusual.

However, there are a lot of owners who don’t even buy APs…while I don’t know for sure, I’d bet more buy tickets instead.

And, maybe that is why we see the WDW tickets have enhanced features.

Instead of just one water park day, it’s 5 water park and sports option.

The theme park days need to be weekdays but those other options do not. So, it might be attractive to more.

I think this makes a lot of sense. It's also why Memory Maker is included and a big perk for owners. If you have an AP with PhotoPass downloads the Memory Maker is completely useless. I am not upset about it because I know it benefits other members and I would always rather have more than less perks in the program.

If we assumed that the reason was that not many members bought the AP, knowing Disney wouldn’t they want to enhance the AP to push more members to buy the AP?

When I got my AP I called ticketing and they checked my account(I assume) and my AP was good to go.

When I got another sorcerer AP (online) it does say “Not valid for park entry”, show at ticket window to activate.

Assuming many can buy the AP online and to ensure eligibility they need to verify DVC-Y
