2025 Wine and Dine

Stupid question here:

Is there are calculation to determine what the run and walk paces are?
I know it's 4, 2, 90 seconds, etc. of running, but at what average pace?

Thanks!
It depends on the pacers, honestly. Some run faster and walk slower, some run slower and walk faster. If you don't match up perfectly, you could still run the same intervals as the group and play leap frog.

I'm not sure, I usually don't keep up with pacers. I know some of them do different splits so you could probably use that with the expected finish time to get a decent idea of what the run/walk pace is.

Thanks....I also figured I'd do what the kids to nowdays and asked AI. Here's what I got:

Based on the average pace (P avg) and the run/walk ratio (R/W) , we can calculate the average running pace (P r).
The formula used to relate these values, given an average walking pace (P w), is derived from the principle that the total time taken over a mile is the same whether averaged or calculated using the intervals:

Solving for the average running pace (P r):

Using my walking pace of 17 minutes per mile, here is the calculated average running pace for each corral:

For example, the England pacer uses an 8:00 average pace with a 4-minute run and 30-second walk interval. Their average running pace is 7 minutes and 30 seconds per mile (07:30).

However, this answer doesn't take into consideration that these are a) the pace group is being led by two humans - not machines - who are leading another large group of other humans, each of which has a different run pace and walk pace that feels comfortable and b) there are going to be things on the course (narrow areas, crowding, etc.) that will impact how fast the pacers are going at any given time. If there are known issues (i.e. International Squeeze-way between Epcot and HS or on the path between the Grand Floridian and the MK), the pacers may have a plan for how to tweak speeds to stay on pace. But sometimes the pacers are recalculating on the fly based on conditions so it is almost impossible to say what is the "average pace" is going to be on race day.

I was on a Zoom call with Chris Twiggs last night (head of the pace team for runDisney) and he was telling us that he recently did an 11 mile run - one mile at each of the different paces (and intervals) that the pace teams are going to run at Disney - to see what his average run pace was. But it would be fascinating to have several different pacers do this and see how (if?) it differs.

Chris did a great video about pacing if anyone is interested:

Ugh, I really want those Stitch Gylcerins but won't be there this year and not sure I can justify the price with how quickly the soles wear out on the current model. I also can't see spending just to put them in a case and never use them.

All good points and totally agree.

I just wanted to see what the theoretical "average" running pace would be, to see if I was in the ballpark of the desired finish time. I'm thankful that the pacers are able to adjust their pace on the fly and still make the target finish time.

Thanks for sharing that video!

If anyone wants to take a look at Chris's run, it is on Strava here:

I was confused about the Pacer chart too and cut and pasted it into ChatGPT. I’ve been doing interval training for almost a year and I current do 120/30 pace and right now my range is 11:30-12/mile. ChatGPT, with which I use to analyze my runs put me in the Germany camp, but agreed with my assessment to stick to my own pace and ignore the pacers. So that’s my plan. My wife, who is faster than me is planning on running with me for a little at the beginning but will eventually break off on her own.

Long sleeves…
Im flying already (yeyy) and didn't bring shirts as I assume would be using rD…
I’d have to buy at the expo… (yeyyy)

W&D always has long-sleeved shirts. Well, except except for the first couple years. My 2011 W&D shirt has short sleeves. But since at least 2016 only Princess and Star Wars/SS are the races with short-sleeved shirts.

This is one of the things about runDisney that never makes sense to me. W&D is almost always very warm if not downright HOT. The last thing that most of us want (even those of us from northern climates) are long sleeve shirts. Disney is always trying to cut costs - go to short sleeve shirts. (Personally, I would prefer them for Marathon Weekend too, but at least with MW, there is a chance that people might wear them)

Everyone has a preference and I respect it. However, Someone needs a booth set up at the expo cutting sleeves off and sewing them up. Then, everyone gets what they want

I love the long sleeves and the white! Of course blue and gray though ... ugh. As PP said though, at least the gray is darker than normal. I've done 25-ish RD races and this is my first white/cream colored top!!! Finally. 2/3 of my shirts are gray, LOL.

Sitting on my balcony at AKL and I can’t for the life of me find runDisney emails regarding club access. Can someone confirm (maybe @The Expert)
Gold club runDisney merch is 8:30? That is the Brooks shoes as well if remember correctly? Thanks
