2021 Complicated Planning Questions

I have a June 2020 vacation booked. I purchased the tickets and hotel separate. There was a hotel discount for the cabins. I was paying about $325 (give or take). That was cancelled. Now rescheduled for the exact same week in 2021. Still have tickets, but cabin is now costing me $445. (My plan was to reserve and wait and see what is offered.

Now I understand that if a room only discount is offered, I am good. However, if a vacation package is offered (like what is being offered in the fall, or one with free dining) then I am completely out of luck. My tickets cannot apply to a vacation package.

I do have the option to get a refund on my tickets (who knows for how long). I already have my park day reservations, and I wouldnt need to cancel my hotel until five days before. (Long after I know if there will be a vacation package).

If I cancel my tickets and get a refund, but keep my 7 night hotel reservation, do I still get to keep my park reservations? Any reason I should not cancel my tickets and get a refund now and wait to see?

I had built up about $6500 in gift cards for our 2020 trip (about $2500 already spent on tickets) so the money would go back on gift cards. No clear what to do??

Technically you need tickets to hold the park reservations. Apparently some have not been dropping off when folks cancel. Whether yours would stay without tickets, who knows. WDW has historically offered both a room-only discount and a package deal at the same time. I would hold what you have now and see what comes for specials.

(If your tickets were from UT, I believe there would be a re-stocking charge to cancel.)

Plus there's a very good chance tickets will cost more if you buy new ones.
