There's the rumor on various DIS boards (Rumors, Resorts) that 2017 rack rates will be released this coming Tuesday. That means that the on-line booking tool will then be able to accurately price and reserve a visit in 2017.

Of course, for a room-only reservation, you are always able to make a reservation over the phone (subject to the 499 day rule) into the next year before new rates are available but it will book at the current year's rates (one night deposit) and then update to the new rates once they are released. Calling early does NOT lock in the prior year's rates.

The new rates release date are important for people who want to book a package for 2017 since they can't schedule a package on-line or over the phone until the room rates are released. As FYI on the Rumors board, the 2017 Dining Plan rates are supposedly ready already.

One note: reading on the other boards the 499 day rule MAY be to the last day of your reservation (we, including me, have often said that was 499 from the check-in day but that might be wrong - I can't say for certain).

The reason I bring up the 499 day rule is that Halloween in 2017 is on a Tuesday and when rates release on June 21, 499 days from then is November 2, 2017. In other words, when rates come out on June 21, you can book out to then supposedly. Or you can call on Monday and book till Wednesday November 1. The point is we are almost on top of the max window for Halloween 2017 at the same time.

As such, that means on June 21 (if rates are released) that you probably WON'T be able to book Christmas week 2017 yet since it will be beyond the 499 day rule. And in past years it has taken Disney's IT team a few days to allow the on-line calendar to load dates/rates/availability for the full 499 day window. They have shown up within a few days though - you can always call. Wonder if they will get their act together this year.

So for you UBER planners out there, on your mark - get set - ..........

Ed, The fort ought to send you a paycheck. You are such a plethora of information. Thanks for the info.

I did the math, (not really, there's an app for that) to figure up when we need to book for Christmas 2017 week and it's around the second week of August 2016. Talks between me and my DW are hot and heavy about booking. I told her it would be ok, our 5er has a fireplace so we're covered for Ol Saint Nick....

Well be at the Fort during that time.... Hmmm, wonder if the DW is up for a Christmas 2017 Trip? (Probably not though.... Her parents don't like it when we go away for Thanksgiving.... Probably hate if go away for Christmas.)

Online booking is now unavailable. I guess they are working on the new year.

They're up now. Pricing up through check out on November 4, 2017 according to my spot checks.

Waiting for 2017 Christmas wish they would just let you book for the whole year. I think I have to wait til Aug 6 if my math is right.

Thanks Ed for teasing me and adding to the confusion.

I want to make a reservation, now, for September 2017 just to have it locked in, but I see the discount they are running for late summer/fall campsites this year. Obviously, at least this year, things are pretty slow at the Fort then, so I shouldn't have trouble getting a site, even a year from now. And maybe even with a discount.

So... do I or don't I... Hmmm.

@TheRustyScupper: Does date of reservation have anything to do with getting your requested loop? (earlier wins?)

Teamubr/Jim,

I was thinking the same thing about a possible September 2018 visit to the Fort. Book early or wait for a discount like the one that has come out the last few years? (15% IIRC).

Where I have come down on it is if you care about site type (Premium/Full/Preferred) or are travelling around Labor Day weekend then book early at rack rate. If you can fit in any of the site types then I'd say wait. The discounts were not plentiful (if any at all) around the 3-day Labor Day weekend.

Me, I would be there around Labor Day weekend 2018 so I will be booking early although I might dabble with a Tent or Full site. I wouldn't be eligible for a discount most likely but I would save a little kwan by booking downmarket (I can do that with my little pop-up. I saw your beautiful monster at Gulf and you need to go Premium, buddy. Just sayin'.)

I might change up the mix and do one park day and two water park days (Blizzard and Typhoon). DW would bring her book, sunglasses, and huge floppy hat and I would spend all day circumnavigating the lazy rivers. I have a Chris Columbus' explorer complex. pirate:

Guess I will learn from your 2017 experience when I plan for 2018. I'll be out there watching you ... :surfweb:
