2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Can't believe I signed up for the GSC! I had planned on doing that in 2018 but once I found out late last night it was the Beauty and Beast theme, I thought I might do the 1/2 but then switched to the 10k after talking with my DSIL, but when I was registering and the GSC was still open, I thought to myself...Why not? This is crazy! So much training and planning to do for an unexpected trip! I'm so excited!!!

Ariel484...thank you for all of the info you post! I greatly appreciate it! I was following this thread to get info and to be prepared for 2018 but now I can actually post in this thread!

I can't help but wonder if some people who may not really want to do a 10K do because of the medal, when maybe they'd typically lean towards a 5K. Same as how people feel towards doing the half but going with the 10K since it's shorter. Just my two cents.

The 5K races are on Friday mornings - so being a Disneyland local... I don't want to be up at 3am and have to go to work after running. It makes for a very very very very very long day and by noon I want to go home.

I'm sure a lot of other locals to So Cal (and maybe Orlando?) feel the same way. Also - $80 to run a 5K is a lot of money and you don't even get the race-material shirt. 10K seems like a better deal for $30 more and you get a better quality medal, a race-material shirt, and a Saturday race.

I registered last week for APs at 12 on the nose worried everything would sell out today. Just opened the page and 2 hrs in everything but the 10k is open. Has run disney finally found the high water mark on these prices?

That's a good point about the day of the week. I forgot about that. But the thing with the cost is what I was saying - if they had a tech shirt and metal medal for the 5K, I think there are some people who may choose that over the 10K. Although I guess not enough to make a difference, since having it on a Friday is a big factor. That would be 2 days off work for out of towners since you have to be there Thursday for packet pickup.

Shocked about the GSC since that sold out quick for early registration, but not so much with the 5K and half. Did those even sell out last week?

Hi ladies! Thank so much for all of the helpful information. I was able to succesully register for my first Princess 10k. My best friend is unable to race, but wants to volunteer. Any helpful hints? Does she need to create a go active account or a different type of account? Thanks so much and can't wait to run with all of you princesses!

Clearly more 10K spots have been allotted to Glass Slipper.
Yep. Did some math using last year's info...

11343 10K finishers
8129 GSC bibs

So there were only a little over 3,000 dedicated 10K bibs available for 2016's race. I'd guess this year is the same and explains why the 10K sold out so quickly.

I THINK the 5K did eventually but I'm not sure.

That's really great that she wants to volunteer!

Looks like registration opens on November 15. I have heard that it is somewhat competitive to get a spot!

So - What is the cost associated with shifting a registration to a different distance?

I originally planned to do the half, but some friends wanted to come along, so I dropped to the 10k to run with them (and signed myself up for the 10k and 5k). Well, they couldn't get registered, so they signed up for the 5k instead. Looking to see how much it would hurt to change my 10k to a half, and my boyfriend's 10k to a 5k?

Yes I am so excited. We are planning to have all computer devices ready to go just like today's registration. Do you know if she needs a goactive account or a different type of account to register?

I was nervous for nothing! Registering for the half went so smoothly! I also booked my hotel room at POR and can't wait! This will be my hubby's 1st trip ever to WDW! I hope he loves it too :)

I'm in for the 1/2, my very first one. I must have lost my mind! I set up a training schedule for myself starting next month because, you know, August is the ideal time to train in Florida :worried:

They must've opened a few more 10L spots since it's currently showing as ON HOLD again instead of SOLD OUT

My first Disney run is actually the Wine and Dine in November. I am so lucky to be running for a charity. Can you ladies give us first one runners some advice? Are there a lot of character opportunities and do you feel like you have the time to stop? And more importantly, wardrobe! Since it Florida and it is cooler in the early mornings, do you recommended tanks or long sleeves? I am so excited! Thanks in advance
