2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Welcome @Heartsturtle !!

1.) not that crazy. Others of us are doing it...but it means you'll need to be at the expo on Thursday, which means another night hotel, another day off of work, and the most difficult - another insanely early wake-up

2.) register separately, but you don't have to sign out in between. I'd do the challenge first and then the 5K. So you'll do 2 registrations total and that covers the three races + challenge

3.) ummmmm I dunno sorry!! :)

Thank you! I know running the 5k will change how I train (got to be prepared for multiple days now!), but I feel like when I'm already planning on running over 19 miles, 3 more is not a big deal. Thankfully I'm a stay at home mom & my husband owns his own business so we're very flexible with taking time off. My in-laws are offering to pay for part of this trip as our Christmas present (they live in Florida & will be joining us), so it's just a matter of if I can run/walk 3 more miles! Haha

Make sure to get your proof of time submitted before the November 15th deadline. Your 10K in September is timed right? You'll want to use that finish time to get you put into the correct corral - even if you're 'slower' than the 2:45 time. Put where you'll most likely (and realistically) finish with your 10k proof of time. Otherwise you'll be in the last corral! :)

edit: Proof of Time is only for GSC. The 5K is "whatever you estimate to finish".

Yes, my 10k is timed! I'm hoping for a really good time so I can get in a good corral. That way I'll have a good cushion & can stop for some character pictures. I never want to see those balloon ladies I've heard so much about!

Whoa, I'm not sure how but I completely missed that the 5K was NOT part of the challenge! Just went back and grabbed that -- thank goodness I kept reading this thread!

Way too excited about Belle. I would have loved Tiana, but I still love Belle (I do love reading after all). Aurora would have had the bonus fun during Tink of getting to take pictures in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. Don't know why, but I've never been a big fan of Snow White so truthfully I would have preferred just about any princess over her. But my hope was definitely on Tiana or Belle.

This is so not Disney kosher, but if you've ever seen the horror film "Stay Alive", then you'll understand why I might giggle quite a bit at the plethora of roses I'm expecting to adorn things. Built in extra lives!

That's an awesome Christmas gift!!

You can totally do 3 more miles. It's a little bit of the Epcot parking lot and a loop around the World Showcase. :)

You won't! Just stick to your training and you'll be good!

Yeah - for future reference, the ONLY RunDisney challenge that includes the 5K is Dopey during WDW Marathon Weekend.

Back to registration. I now TRULY believe that RunDisney runners have hit a price-point that they'll no longer pay, because I cannot believe both the half AND 5K are STILL available almost seven hours after Early Registration opened.

Super jealous of everyone if the theme for next year really is Belle! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite movies.

Oh good. Not the only one eyeing that and shocked. I wouldn't have panicked as much as I did registering if I had realized the 5K early reg wasn't going to sell out fast.

I did also notice I paid about $10 for GSC 2017 than I paid for my PDC 2016. That was a nice surprise.

Can anyone tell me how much the active fees are? I'm probably not going to be able to afford the 5k now but I would like to know the total just in case.

I'm honestly shocked they charge so much for an u timed race. Its outrageous. For that much money I expect a real race!

It's a little under 7% of the registration cost. So $75 * 1.07 = $80.25

While untimed, it still is a "real race" ... there is a hard sweep and a course limit. It's marketed as a family fun run since rD has put hard age caps on Kids Races.

Yes, it's expensive. But it's also generally the best race experience in terms of on-course entertainment during a race weekend.

Please don't demean the race just because you don't feel it's a "real race" - for MANY it is.

And I'm sorry for posting this as a response to you - don't think I'm taking it out on you. I'm just really sensitive about this subject, because I've met SO MANY people around the DIS and Facebook that have made significant life changes because their goal is to finish a Disney 5K. And when things are posted demeaning the race, like that it's not a "real" race - or by asking if people are actually planning to run a race, it becomes very off-putting and scares off people who read these boards looking for insider support and need running friends more than ever.

@pluto377 Not to pile on but I gotta agree with @Keels. I understand you're not happy with what is included with registration, but maybe it could have been worded a little differently. This race is a big deal to many of us here - for some it's their first race ever. For me, it's a bit of redemption since I was injured last year and ended up not making the trip - it's very real to me.

And to be blunt...Disney charges what they charge because they can. Yes, it's expensive, but it'll sell out.

I'm in for 5K + GSC. Love that it's Belle this year too! I might be able to convince more people to join in the fun with her as the princess!
Woohoo! I hope it's actually Belle...if not, rD is playing a mean trick on us...

Clear your web history, cookies, cache, etc. and try again!

My guess - the 5K.

LOL just re-read! I think the 5K will be more difficult to get into. :)

It usually goes challenge, 10K, 5K, half. A lot of people only want to run a half if they can get the extra medal. lol

I like the crown for this year. :)

It's so pretty! I can't wait to see the merch for next year!

Did you have a problem with deferral sign up it still wants to charge me the full price and I'm scared to hit the compete button

I had no trouble at all! That's weird. I deferred the 10K and paid 10.66.

I just received an email from RunDisney encouraging me to sign up for the Princess and it appears as if it is Belle's silhouette smelling a rose. My money is on Belle!

That's what I'm thinking too. They don't usually drop hints like that without following through. I hope it's true!

Hi All! I'm new here, but have been lurking for several months and read the entire thread. This will be my first RunDisney race and I'm really excited/nervous. I was originally just going to do the half, but then figured what's 6 more miles and am definitely going to do the GSC. Now that the theme might be Belle (makes total sense with the live action movie coming out), I might also do the 5k. I love Belle (more like LOVE her) and have fond memories of pretending to be her as a little girl. So I really want that 5k medal because it will most likely prominently feature her and hopefully Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, etc will be on some of the race courses. So I have a few questions:

1. How crazy is it to add another 5k? I don't feel like it's that much more, but I've actually never run in an official race. I've been running on the treadmill in my basement for a long time and can run a 12 minute mile (hoping to shave another minute off before race day). I am running a 10k in September and another in November to get some race experience.

2. When I register for the GSC, can I register for the 5k at the same time? Or do I have to register for one and then re-sign in and register for another?!

3. What time are the kid races usually at on Saturday?! My 3 year old is soooo excited to run and it will be cool to have all 4 medals with our favorite characters on them. I have a 4th month old (she'll be 1 come race time) so my husband and I will have to juggle the 2 kids while I race. Just want to make sure times don't conflict!

Thanks in advance & congrats to everyone who was able to register today!

1. Not crazy at all! I did it in 2014 and 2015, and will hopefully do it again in 2018. The 5K is not timed, so you really don't even have to run it. It's less walking than you'd do in a day at the parks.

2. As others have said, you can't do them at the same time. Do the GSC first, then the 5K.

I wonder if it's due to the cost of APs and people not being able to afford them. October of last year hit Disneyland pretty hard. We went from a $780 pass to a $1050 pass, ouch! And I'm going to be joining my friends and work colleagues by not renewing my Disney pass for the first time since 1994 when I got it. The cost for a Premier pass is already $1500 with taxes, and there's no way they're not increasing that to nearly $2000 this year. And with present prices at $1050 for Disneyland only (or just $850 w/o Christmas week) is just too much when so many things are under construction.

But the runDisney events? We're totally signing up for them over the next year in general registration! :D

What I find more interesting is that nearly two months out from Dumbo we have a half marathon that hasn't sold out yet and you have runDisney vendors begging people to sign up at other running event expos offering $25 off registration if you do it that day. Tinkerbell half didn't sell out. So it must be people want a challenge or nothing? Or maybe the 10K is drawing people away from the half marathon?

IDEK. I have a lot of thoughts... but I totally believe the cost has reached a point where spending $350 for one race weekend isn't a good cost investment, especially when a similar race organization offers an unlimited racing pass for 5K, 10K, and half marathons for about $500.

I just signed up for the 5k :cool1: and will be signing up for the GSC on Tuesday.
I wasn't planning on doing this again since I ran this year, but I'm a huge fan of Belle. Sorry Dark Side...

Thank you! That was my thought as well.. I know for a fact I walk more than that in just a few hours every day just doing house stuff and taking care of my kids. I'll see how my training goes and if I'm feeling unsure, I'll just take that race super easy.

Loved your post and couldn't agree more ! DH and I are lucky enough to get the military discount on tickets and hotel otherwise it would really limit race participation.

Since we all survived AP and DVC registration it is time for adult beverages...I mean we still have time to enjoy alcohol before real training begins !:flower1:
