I'm starting to think about a trip next year before Christmas. We were originally thinking of pulling the kids out of school for a few days to make it a 5 day weekend. Does anyone know what the crowds are like the week before Christmas? I was thinking about 12/16/16-12/21/16. I have heard how busy it is between Christmas and New Years but wasn't sure about the week before Christmas.

It will be busy, but not as busy as the week between Christmas and New Years Day.

With Christmas falling on a Sunday, there will be a range of dates where most school districts get out for the holiday. A lot of schools will still be in session during the week you might go, so the crowds won't reach peak levels. However, they will get larger every day of your potential visit.

If your goal is visiting any time when the decorations are up, I suggest you consider visiting during another week. The week before Thanksgiving and the first two weeks of December are usually good weeks to go.

We made a quick long weekend trip this year from Dec 11-15. We have always gone in July or August, so were very used to big crowds and hot weather. The December trip was one of our best yet. Early mornings and late nights let us get everything in that we wanted to do.... in three full days. Temps were perfect, highs of 80's with lows high 60's or low 70's. Crowds seemed to be cut in half from what we were used to in the summer. This may become a tradition. Good luck deciding!

We were there this year for a quick trip to see the Osborne lights one last time, December 19-23. We did DAK Sunday, MK Monday, and DHS Tuesday. We found DAK and DHS crowded, but manageable. However, we found MK to be VERY crowded. We arrived at MK at 7am and got a lot done during those early hours and using FP, but by lunch time it was super packed. Much more crowded than our Easter trip earlier this year and our 4th of July trip a few years ago.

We usually go around June 8th for a week. A lot of schools are out but some are still in too so its not as crowded as summer can get. Are the crowds heavier than the beginning of June the week before Christmas?

We arrived 12/16, departed 12/21. Great weather, but crowds increased exponentially Friday and Saturday. A great time, decorations were awesome, saw the Osbourne Lights one last time. By the 21st, I was ready to go. Too crowded by then (for me). Would absolutely do it again!

Oh, and on the 19th, MK had EMH hours opening at 7AM. I have never seen so many people at MK by 7:15!!! And here I thought people still slept in on vacation!:tigger:
