2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** May 7-10, 2015

Took a day off from running ... and went hiking instead! It felt great to get out and move, and catch up with a coworker who I rarely see anymore (she works mornings and I work nights), but I just know my legs are going to be throwing a fit tomorrow. All in the name of training!

Wonderful way to spend time together! That's what life is all about. Training with Smiles!

Some advise please. We are flying into John Wayne airport on Thursday May 7th afternoon. Are we better off to book Super Shuttle, Disneyland bus we are staying at the Disneyland Hotel . Or is there any better options. We are leaving on May 10 flight out at 3 pm. There is just 2 of us.

Hi,

We usually drive to CA, but a friend of mine had a good experience using the airport shuttle to the Disneyland Hotel, and it was more affordable than a cab or other option. It might be different with two people, but it's pretty convenient from what I gathered. It was very quick, and the drop off was right in front of the front doors of the lobby.

I'm headed out soon on my short run (4miles). I find that they are easier to skip after such long runs on the weekend. Hiking sounds fun! I just want to sit in my quiet house while the kids are at school lol I ran 11 miles 2 weekends ago and did a 12k last weekend. I'm suppose to run an 11 again this weekend but I will be on a girls trip. Hope this doesn't mess up my training. Found out i am in corral B! So excited!! :yay:

Nice! Where'd you go, up to the mountains?

Missing your run this weekend shouldn't be a problem. Do you have a shorter run next weekend, you could flip them if you want to get that last 11 in before the race.

Hey, has anyone heard is there will be a race exclusive Pandora charm available for purchase? I searched but haven't been able to find anything.

She took me to Schabarum Regional Park. We might go hit the trails at Peters Canyon today. Waiting to hear back from her. I went running out there sometime last year and really enjoyed it. We're slowly making a lit of places we'll go since she knows the area more than I do (which I need to fix seeing as I've lived here for 3 years now).

Nothing has been announced one way or the other.

FYI, just checked my email and runDisney has sent out a reminder about required documents with links to the event guide and waivers. It's getting so real!

How many sleeps to go? So excited on the count down! Hardly wait. Receiving the email from rundisney make all real now! YIPEE!

I kept thinking that it was 3 weeks from tomorrow that we are leaving, but I guess it's 3 weeks from Thursday. I think I had it in my head because we were going to drop off the dog at my in-laws on Wednesday night.

It is going to be a stressful 3 weeks! Whether or not my SO can go with me was in jeopardy... it still is a little bit. We noticed a lump on our doggy's ribs 2.5 weeks ago and it's been a whirlwind of vet appts and tests to determine that it is a less bad kind of cancer and we should go ahead and have surgery to have it removed. He is going in for that tomorrow, so hopefully he is recovered enough in 3 weeks that we will feel ok about leaving him with my in-laws! Otherwise my SO will stay here with him and I'll go alone. We'll be out his plane ticket if he has to stay, but I still haven't bought my park tickets yet from GET while I waited to see if I should buy 2 or 1.

Sorry about your puppy! Hope everything goes well for him. If you get the 2 tix and end up only needing 1, I believe they're good until the middle of Dec unless something has changed in the past couple of months and if you're not coming back out here by then, you might be able to sell it to another runner for DL or Avengers at the end of the year.

Can someone explain the "photo method" for the Challenge? I had a wristband before for the Coast to Coast, but I'm unfamiliar with this photo method people seem to prefer. Thanks!

When you pick up your bib, there's a place near bib pickup and they take your pic. Then when you finish after you get your 1/2 medal there's a place w/ computers where they check your bib # and pic and then give you the medal. At Avengers, they didn't check pics and just gave you the medal but it was so windy they were trying to get everybody out of the finish area, for SW they checked me.

Yes, F for both races. Less corrals, b/c waaayyy less runners. I think Tink only has 13-15,000 vs the 20+ for PHM. :goodvibes And, less crazy runners too. ;)

Thank you!

As mentioned above - DL races tend to be a lot smaller. I think the corrals are a little bigger, too.

Thank you!

My mom and I are also flying into John Wayne/SNA. We have used Super Shuttle for our ground transportation for our last few Disneyland trips and have been pleased overall. We book online ahead of time. In the past we have sometimes added the tip when we booked, but then it feels awkward when on the shuttle, so we'll just give a cash tip at the time of service.

I think Super Shuttle might be cheaper and run more frequently than the Disneyland bus.

Thank you for the explanation. Sounds like an interesting way to do things. Since it sounds like there's a discrepancy in the info booklet, I wonder which method they'll actually be using this year.

Do you happen to know if they look at your actual chip time before awarding the Challenge medal, or do they go by a finish/not finish thing?

:scared1:Oh great...I'm worried that I do not look the same after the race as I do when I pick my bib up....you know hair make up. :confused3 What's a girl to do? I can just imagine some CM telling me that I don't look like my photo taken a few days ago and then no medal. I'll better bring ID then.

Yeah, the program is...always bad. :sad2: I really do think they just change the course maps and if they remember the dates. Although, sometimes those even are mixed up.

I don't know about the chip time checking, I think it's more of a finishing thing and as long as your picture and bib# match and you have your 1/2 medal you get the challenge medal. They take you to a different location if you don't finish so if something happens and you don't fish, while you get the 1/2 medal, you won't be able to get back in to get the challenge one.

You'll be fine! :goodvibes can you imagine the drama if they told people no? :rotfl:

Sending healing and positive energy to your dog. Take care. Hugs

I'll send whatever good thoughts your way that I can. Went through something similar with my families dog when I went home for a week a little bit ago. I ended up having to take her in because of a mass growing on her jaw. Hopefully it's a smooth recovery.

Nothing to worry about. The only way I can imagine a no is if it's very very obvious the person in the photo is someone completely different. And generally speaking if someone is dumb enough to go through the photo check to get the challenge/C2C medals knowing they didn't run the required races then they deserve the no and whatever else comes out of it.
