2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** May 7-10, 2015

Nice! I've always wanted to do that one, but always have something else that weekend. I'm doing a run in Santa Cruz that Sun and then Big Sur 2 weeks after that.

That sounds fun. Big Sur is so beautiful. If you get the chance, go have dinner at Nepenthe. Try to be seated before Su., facing the ocean. Watching the sun set into the ocean is a bucket list item. You will never forget it.

This will be my second half marathon (Tink last year was my first) and I'm finding that I'm way less motivated to run than I was before. The event is so fun but the actual running and training part not so much for me. I'm supposed to be following the Jeff Galloway program from the runDisney website but I've done only a few runs so far.

I have this idea that maybe I will just do one long run with walking intervals once a week, plus 3-4 days of lifting and/or cardio per week. Does this sound like a horrible plan? I don't need to finish fast or PR, just want to finish. If this works, would it be better to use the miles for the program (where every other week is shorter) or gradually increase miles each week?

As Kim said, it depends on how fit you are now. I am pretty fit but my left hip doesn't like too much pounding, so I usually only run 2 times during the week: the long run and a shorter, faster run (4-6 miles). When I'm feeling good I add a track workout, but usually just do speed work in the shorter run. I also did 2-3 cross-training workouts that are very intense, just not on the joints. And I walk everywhere since I live in the city.

I think it's not a great idea just to do one long run - it doesn't get you used to the pounding on your feet. If that's what you choose to do, I'd make sure at least one if not two of my other workouts were on the elliptical or bike where you are at least doing the same motion. Lifting is good, but it doesn't have the same effect.

Thanks for the advice! You guys are probably right. :) I'll try to get in more than one run a week.

One of my friends is in superb shape. She lifts everyday and does one long run a week and that's it. She rocks her halves. Don't underestimate strength.

But I'd say this is also due to her physical conditioning. My feet for example would still need to know what it feels like to pound in them all day.

I don't think it's impossible to complete with this plan at all. Long runs would be key and if you are getting those plus strength in theory you could be fine.

But I think every body is different. It may not work for you and I'd hate tink to be the place you discover it! :)

Just bumping our thead - happy super bowl Sunday!
Ran a 5k race this morning - felt great!

Don't think I posted in here yet. But I'm in for Pixie Dust and the 5k. Staying at a friend's place this year.

And this is one race I know I'm going to be overly frustrated over the loss of the Expo corral change. I'm finally starting to pick up speed again (ran a 67:15 10k in training today which if I replicated in race conditions would put me just in the sub 2:30 corrals). Unfortunately do to me and cold weather racing not always mixing and lack of time to find a 10k when I realized when I was starting to gain pace again. I'm stuck in whatever the heck a 2:47 half time gives me. This is probably going to end up being more frustrating then my placing during Dumbo.

Do you really think they will keep the castle tented all the way up until the May 22nd? I'm hoping its not for our run. That seems pretty wrong to do during a scheduled run weekend being so close. I'm really hoping its untented but the extras like lighting will just remain off until the 22nd celebrations. Crossing my fingers

I'm like you and hope it's not tented but you never know. I've done races there where we run through the castle and some courses have you run around it, and it really is more magical when you run through it. Although the thought that they could keep the castle tented and the walk-through/bridge open would be kinda be cool/funny too b/c it's a once in a lifetime situation. I'm curious too if it would affect any of the courses at all.

i hope the castle isn't tented -- can't imagine my first RD and not seeing the castle in all its glory!

I have some questions about the hotel we picked.

We are staying at the Camelot Inn which is right across the street from what the map says is the starting line. Since we didn't submit any times, we'll be in the last corral. Does anyone know how far back that is going to be?

Also, I saw a lot of people talking about early morning entries into the park. Do Good Neighbor Hotels get any early entry? I booked the hotel directly and booked our tickets/race with GET Travel.

And I hope they untent the castle because we're coming out from Oklahoma to do this and I would hate to have a giant tent in my pictures. :(

The starting area is on DL Dr on the other side of the parks and DTD and the staging area is in the PPH parking lot. It's not that bad of a walk; either down DTD and then left to the PPH or down Harbor and right on Katella to the staging area/corrals. The corrals start lining up just on the other side of the DTD overpass and go back towards Katella and PPH. The last corral will be after PPH closer to Katella. I can't remember how many corrals there were last year, maybe G or H? But they could always add more making them smaller.

Unfortunately, the Get Travel tix don't come w/ early morning entries. If you buy the tix through the hotels I think, depending on the number of days, you'd get entrance but you'd also lose the discount from GT.

Does anyone know what time the Disneyland half opens up for registering? What to register for dumbo just read how fast it sells out what to be able to be at the computer. I have signed up for the email alert but they don't always come. Just trying to plan day.

If I have the GET Travel discounted park tickets I know I do not get the Magic Morning. However, we are staying at paradise Pier, so we should still get Extra Magic Hours every morning anyway and the discounted ticket type won't matter, correct?

I believe that's correct. You would just show your room key at the entrance.

It'll open tomorrow at 9pst/12est. Make sure to be on your computer a little early and have both the rD DL site and the Active one, logged in. I stay on the rD site and just keep refreshing. Good luck!!

As least I have my tablet and the computer so I can log into active and Disney see which one hopefully gets lucky. Fingers will be ready. I'll try public first last resort I'll go through Get Travel. Booked the hotel through them for Tink Disneyland Hotel.

I do the same thing! Desktop and iPad are open and ready. :rotfl2: On the off chance Get Travel is out of spots, try Jim Stone. He always has bibs as well and similar set up w/ reg and park tix. I personally haven't used him, but I know a lot of people who have and haven't had any problems.

Is anyone on here doing the Wine and Dine Half at WDW? I've been looking for the Disboard for it, but I haven't been able to find one.

I did it last year, but not this year. I really liked the course and it being at night was a really different experience plus you have the after party after you finish which is fun. They have a thread for W&D and all the other rD races and other non-Disney races under Events and Competition in the WISH area. Here's the link directly to the W&D Thread ~ http://www.disboards.com/threads/wine-and-dine-2015.3377706/
