2015 Fall Breaks at your kids school?

Ours is always the week with Columbus Day.

Our fall break in the Midwest for Christian schools is part of October 17-24, hence we will be at wdw along with tons of other people I know! We make it a week by pulling the kids out for 2 days.

Our kids have one day off in October. I think it's 10/12. This year they have the whole week of Thanksgiving off which is unusual. It's the first time I've ever heard of this in our area. The normal schedule is to have school Mon and Tue of Thanksgiving week.

Are these year round schools? In my part of Ohio we have no such thing as a Fall break. We are off Oct. 16 though. Every year we have that Friday off in October(whatever the date). No week long breaks until Christmas Break.

But also there is such thing as winter break, but NOT Christmas? Its so strange....

I'm in South Jersey and we don't have a fall break. I'm actually glad, it's hard enough to find child care in the summer -- at least we have summer camps -- I can't imagine what we'd do with several 2 week + breaks!

My daughter's elementary school is year round. My son's middle school is on a modified schedule. These schedules are so common that there are plenty of programs offered for track out periods. And we love that it lets us travel at other times of the year. We'll be at Disney Oct 1-11.

In a suburb of St Louis. We have Oct 9- 19th off, we are heading down. Our district has been transitioning from a year round calendar for elementary to the more traditional 9 month calendar. The entire district had had a fall break for many years. We loved the year round! 9 weeks on 3 weeks off was perfect! I think most schools here have them. We go back August 11.

I'm in Rhode Island. We have Columbus day & two days at Thanksgiving but no Fall Break. Quite a few people do go to Disney over Columbus though and just take their kids out of school.

Our half term holiday is the week beginning 26th October. That's mostly pretty standard throughout the country, and why you might see a lot of British families at WDW that week

What's fall break? These schedules actually sound really interesting. Nothing like that in MD, where we go late Aug-mid June. Our teachers get lots of professional development days though...

Seems many breaks are right around Columbus Day so Im hoping our week will be a little less crowded even though some schools will overlap our dates. Columbus Day weekend in 2009 wasn't bad at all. But I guess its changed a lot in the past 6 years. Kind of nervous to be honest.

All public schools in Minnesota are closed October 15th and 16th for a statewide teachers convention. We're heading down to Orlando on the 15th and coming back on the 24th, even though school is in session the week of October 19th in our district. Luckily, family vacation is considered an excused absence in our district.

Fall break here is October 8, 9, 10. We went over Fall Break last year and it was more crowded than when we go at Spring Break. Seriously, it was ugly. The MNSSHPs that weekend all sold out. This year, I'm pulling the kiddo out of school for three days and going the week before Fall Break to avoid that mess.

The "balanced calendar" Is getting very popular in the Midwest. We go 9 weeks on, 2 weeks off, with 8 weeks of summer break. DH and I jokingly call the third week of October "Indiana Week" at Disney - like Jersey Week.

I had to laugh when I read this because I was about to say that I think recently the entire state of Indiana goes to Disney in October. Our Fall break is from Oct. 13th-24th.

Maui schools are off October 5-12 this year. We are going next year and taking the kids out of school september 23 for a 2 week vacation.

Found this thread very useful! We usually go at the start of October and have found it's been getting progressively busier. This year we'll be there from Oct 22nd to Nov 14th so looks like all holidays will be more or less done by then. Most Scottish holidays will be over too - looking forward to some quieter parks!
