2015 DVC Alaska Member Cruise 5/25-5/31/15

Wait a minute -- Formal night? Tuxedo? I've only done cruises to the Bahamas, never Alaska. Does everybody bring suits/tuxes for this? What do the women wear? Do you dress up your kids?

Any other surprises for me? ;) Costume night?

LOL, 7 night cruises have a formal night and a semi-formal night. It looked like the normal Pirate Night isn't on this itinerary, if I read Poison Ivy's post correctly. You can rent a tux from DCL, you don't necessarily need to bring one. We cruise a lot, on longer trips, so we decided it was less expensive for us to buy a tux for DH. This way it always fits him and looks great! I will pack a couple of nice dresses, one pair of nicer heels for the formal/semi-formal and brunch. We don't dress up very often, so for us cruising is a bit of an opportunity to have a little fun getting dressed up for dinners. It's not for everyone, but we also don't care for DCL allowing jeans in the dining rooms. That said, I understand the jeans on the first and last nights when unpacking and packing is a necessity.

Booked our flights today on American.
Had previously booked our hotel, just waiting for midnight to book our excursions, Palo, and massages.....
counting down to the cruise!!!:cool1:

OK, just booked one of the last details of the trip. Got our Amtrak Cascades tickets from Seattle to Vancouver on the evening of the 24th. We'll be flying Southwest into SeaTac on the 23rd…

Looks like we'll be able to start our online checkin on 2/9 (we are Gold CC), but we aren't going to do Palo, so not too worried about that…

4 months! Hard to believe...

All done, excursions, Palo and spa booked! Wheeeeeeee!

Excursions for us:
Skagway - Grizzly Falls Ziplining
Juneau - Helicopter Glacier Trek
Ketichican - Tatoosh Islands Sea Kayak Adventure

So looking forward to this cruise!!

Good night all!

Hi, we would like to join the Main FE Group D please :) It'll be my husband (42) and I (41) in cabin 7604. No allergies and not celebrating anything other than we love/addicted to disney :P (Thank you for the organization and great tips in here, everybody!)

they all look great!

We're Next to go at Gold CC - 2/9/14
Can't wait.

I think we've narrowed down Skagway and Ketchikan to a few contenders.
Skagway: it's a toss up between dogsledding; the white pass summit rr/bus; and canoeing at the glacier
Ketchikan: we're seriously considering halibut fishing
decisions.............decisions

Re: formal night etc.............. from everything I've read that schedule held for all 7 day Alaskan voyages so I'm going with it. (I'll have JQ post it under his post #5 on pg. 1 so it's easy to find)
I'm debating how much to pack in this regard. I'll probably just throw in 1 dress and shoes so we're covered.

btw - working on FE's as well.

Love this cruise! Can't wait to see what the DVC has in store.

Another great Alaskan trip report:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3367343

Very detailed from a veteran Dis'er.

A few things to note:
They only had 1 nt in Vancouver precruise and opted for a private transport from YVR to the Pan Pacific to avoid logistics with the size of the taxis and maximize their time.

They hopped the bus right at Canada Place and toured Capilano Suspension Bridge Park the morning of the cruise.

Very informative and very helpful. Enjoy!

Welcome to the cruise meet Thori.

I've posted your info on the FE list, thanks for joining.

Getting ready to book flights...I am a lowly silver so will wait a while for the excursions. We can make a 3:00 flight out of Vancouver, right? That is the latest possible flight for us. We are also regrouping and flying into Seattle for a day or two before heading up to Vancouver. Looks like we will rent a car for our Seattle venture, and drive up to Vancouver and drop it off. Logistics, logistics...

Jay Kat,

Here is what we are doing. If you are just planning on being in the downtown Seattle area, you can take the light rail from the SeaTac airport directly into downtown. From there, when you are ready to go to Vancouver, you can take the Amtrak Cascades from King St. Station direct to downtown Vancouver. Prices are pretty cheap for a 1-way ticket...

There are 4 of us. Just confirmed from DVC that arriving Sun May 24th at 8:30 pm that there will be no disney transfers to hotel. Just wanted to see if anyone had different options to get to the hotel and how much it may cost. Thanks.

I asked this question to the reservation agent at the Pan and she said best, easiest option is to take a taxi from airport, about $40.00.

Please add myself and my husband to one of the main groups. We have 7yo boy twins and a 12 yo daughter. No allergies and we like everything. We are in room 7564.

Welcome aboard! Our DD who is almost 12 will be thrilled to know that there are other girls her age going!

Thank you my fellow Tide Fan. We are in Gadsden. I told my daughter about yours and she is excited as well. I hope to be added to one of the fish extender groups so maybe we can swap gifts. I usually take extras and just randomly give little surprises anyway.

mdinmaking, welcome to the cruise meet and thanks for joining the FE groups.
I have posted your information in group D on the first page of this thread in post #5. You can click the link in my signature to view it. Let me know if I made any mistakes.

Sounds good! We are in the Hwy 280 corridor in North Shelby county, so not too far away from y'all. What are your plans for flying to the Northwest? We are flying SWA out of ATL to Seattle (better deal on points and the times from BHM were nuts).

You got me thinking about stuff from home. I'd love to bring everyone Dreamland BBQ sauce or Big Bob Gibson's White Sauce, but don't have enough room. (On our very first DCL cruise, the group also did a basket exchange in addition to the FE. Basically, every group brought a basket with items from home. Ours included Dreamland BBQ sauce, Dale's, and Golden Flake potato chips. We ended up with a Longaberger basket from a group from Ohio with goodies in it. That was fun too!)

Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Good to know, thanks for sharing! We were planning to go the taxi route anyway, but happy to know it's the recommended way.
