2015 destash - Purge Purge Purge, Purge is the word

This might be a silly question but do you need that many? Two years ago, I got a set of nesting glass bowls with lids. There are 9 total containers and we also have a few plastic containers for lunch items. Other than a few occasions, the ones we have hold every leftover we need. Sometimes I will put something in a Ziploc if I don't have a container available but that is rare. They take up one side on one shelf in a cabinet. The lids are stored vertically next to the bowls. Just a thought if that would help to get rid of some?

It is funny but I also posted about having too many containers. As far as I am concerned I keep some of the ones that come from a restaurant or from cold cuts because they store easily in the fridge and if they get stained or left at work it is no big deal. When we take something to someones house I put it in one so no big deal if they never come home.

Working at this slowly, and enjoying the last day before I go back to work. My goal today is to go through my various email accounts (I have 7 :rolleyes1 !) and unsubscribe as much as possible.

I'm joining in! I've already gone through some paperwork (not done, but made some progress) and a cupboard.

I'm having a hard time knowing what to do with my cupboard now though. It's an awkward shape and stuff seems to get lost in the back and on the sides. I have 2 cupboards this shape. One is working better for me than the other because I have bins in it to hold my spices, I can slide them in and out. I do have some stuff to go back in it, but maybe only fill 1 shelf out of the 3. I was thinking some small appliances, but the shelves aren't adjustable, even though they look like they are (the clip wraps around the top and the bottom of the shelf) so I don't think it's tall enough for what I want to put in it. I'm considering cups since it's right by the sink. I need to try them though to see. Any other ideas? I took a lot of canning jars and paper products out, that I have storage for elsewhere. I also threw away old food that got lost in there.

Here's my cupboard, it's about 30" wide at it's widest point, and 22" deep, and triangular shaped.

There is a way to adjust them. You might need to break off the current supports but you can buy new ones. They do not sell the locking ones because those ar used to keep the shelves secure during shipping.

We bought Kraft Maid cabinets from Lowes about 5 years ago. Some had those locking supports and others had "cheap" adjustable supports. Our contactor left some of the cabinets for use to put the shelves in. I got more from Lowes, however you might be able to purchase something more sturdy.

Put away all the Christmas decor and had one large bag of donations to the Goodwill. Next weekend - my closet. :)

Well today was 2 steps forward, 1 step back.

-cleaned the kids playroom, organized the bins, got rid of some old/broken toys.
-went through an old stack of magazines, cut out some recipes for my binder that I think I will actually make and then recycled the magazines

Christmas decorations came down today except for the tree *sigh* Dh has a cold and didn't feel like helping take it down (it's artificial, prelit and 7ft) so that will have to come down in a couple of days along with the outside lights. Oh well!

We leave our trees and wreaths up until Epiphany but the rest of decorations are down and boxed. I also used an Omaha steaks cooler to pack away Christmas clothing (I have a large number of holiday scrub tops and goofy socks, lol!). I love that the coolers come with recycling suggestions now- we get a number of coolers with shipments at work and these may end up working with my ornaments as well.

I have been working on my guest room and DH bathroom this weekend also. I need to concentrate on one area and complete it instead wandering off when I see something shiney, lol! I am so focused at work I can't believe how easily I can lose concentration and switch gears. :confused3 Got to stick to the list!

Very true. I will have to look at them. I tell you I am a sucker for the holiday ziplocs and that is what I have the most of. I do make a lot of meals for people who are sick and keep a lot for that. If I could get it down to one side of the cabinet I would be thrilled.

Okay, both of my kids had friends over today - which is a miracle - because I never let them invite guests because it is so messy. But, I have the living room clean and worked on the kitchen all day. A step in the right direction - right?!!!!

Small lazy Susan in the back? With bins in the front.

I made great progress over the weekend. I cleaned out the master closet, linen closet, and the crawl space in the basement. I have 4 totes full for the spring garage sale.

I have been slightly derailed with purging in preparation for the sub zero temps and snow we are going to get this week. We have loaded the wood rack upstairs and in the basement, with extra bags of wood stored in the basement as well, gathered sticks for kindling, and set the snowblower up. also moved DS18's truck to a different spot in the yard because we have a tree that might come down from the winds.

If we get stuck at home I will spend the day doing various projects. I think the first will be emptying and straightening up the pantry. That continually explodes.

I finally got a few small things done. I cleaned out the refrigerator door shelves and got rid of all the old condiments. I also reorganized my tupperware drawer.

For the low, low price of one Skylanders Trap Master, (bought on sale of course). I also got my 9 year old son to declutter his room. He got rid of 3 big boxes of "baby" books, which will go to his little sisters, tossed out a ton of trash, and got rid of a large bin of outgrown clothes. He also re-organized all his books into the various series that he likes. His room looks great and he is really proud of his effort. I am wondering if I can get my husband to do the same. Unfortunately, bribing him will cost more! :rotfl2:

Goals for today-
Take all of the ornaments off the tree and put away
Take tree to curb
rearrange living room furniture back to the way it was before Christmas
Finish decluttering hall closet-- donate any too-small winter boots, coats, etc
(and try to keep track of the # of items donated, to add to my total!)

Hey, whatever works, right?!?

I need to persuade my 12yr old ds to declutter his room! He recently told me that the mess was a trap, to keep his stuff safe. Sorry, kid. Not buying it! Especially when I'm the one who ends up stepping on all these legos! Ouch!

Hey, whatever works, right?!?

I am not above bribery! I read something once that boys are more externally motivated than girls, so giving them a reward makes them more willing to work hard. I have absolutely found this to be true with my son. I just offered him 2 Skylanders to clean and declutter the basement (it is the kids' playroom, so it's only toys down there). We'll see if he does it!

Listed 12 different lots on the local Facebook site. Hopefully some of it sells as most of it are Imaginext type toys or items my daughter never used. I have this weekend off and I'm going to really try to make a concentrated effort to work on our bedroom and the garage.

That is hilarious! :lmao:

We are home because school are closed for a "cold" day - wind chills are -20 to -30 for a good part of the day. I plan to finish dragging the decoration boxes to the garage then vacuum again. Currently, they are sitting packed in 2 rooms. I also want to have the kids work on their rooms. At some point, I also need to finish my room and put the laundry away.

Hmmm surely there is some low cost way to bribe a husband!

I am in for this year! We started by decluttering some of our xmas stuff - tbh I am ashamed that I am still using SIX large tupperware containers for it so next year I will try again! :headache: We are donating half of our village scene - I have four dickens ones that I love and my husband had some much smaller scale ones that were very dirty and much smaller so it looked kind of silly. I insisted we could keep them but he said he isn't fond of his the way I am with mine and would rather get a couple more together over the years as we see ones we really love, so that freed up two cardboard boxes we'd been using. We also donated some old ornaments that were meaningless, decorations our parents had pushed on us that we never wanted, that sort of thing.

I also plan on donating a some old kitchen appliances that we kept meaning to sell but have not yet had luck with. One is an old espresso machine that people keep backing out on even though its going for a song and the same happened with a really high end juicer that I got at a garage sale but hardly ever used myself. They both work flawless but I guess no one wants to buy them from us? :confused3 I also have a bunch of practically new clothes I got as gifts and never wore but once and some perfectly fine old furniture that just doesn't fit in our house. I dont know why I have such bad luck making money from selling old things and I've been hanging onto it all hoping I could one day but enough is enough. I'll just take the tax credit for donating at this point! :crazy2:

Goals for today: exchange the large over the shower head organizer that keeps falling off when you use the hose for a small suction one. Add it to the stack of stuff already ready to go to goodwill and get rid of it. If I have time I'll start breaking down the boxes I have stored in the garage for when I am ready to sell my old electronics (see above comment about no luck selling stuff) to make some room in there to really start working through the mess! I HATE waste, and REALLY wanted to sell my old electronics but its just not happening! Trade-ins for me from now on!
