2014 Prices

that to me is the strangest part of all this.

I must say overall the prices dont bother me, being a florida resident I sense ongoing deals over the next several years. I have already taken advantage of one, hope to follow with more.

I wish they would have done that for NY residents when the Magic was up here, but NJ and NY have such a huge Disney fanbase they sold those suckers out in a NY minute. I sense a lot of VGT/IGT/OGT's along with those FL resident discounts too.

I think it's ridiculous, too. This will likely be our last DCL vacation.

We booked, and will go, but once my children are older & I'm comfortable with them being in the other lines kids programming, we wont sail DCL.

Our May '14 sailing is almost exactly $1k more than I paid for the same exact room in June '12. My children have aged into a more expensive price, which makes me feel a little better, then I remember I'm getting an OBB discount. I need to stop thinking about this now or I might just call and cancel the whole thing!

I thought the summer prices were out of the ball park. We love DCL but also like RCCL. Its funny our last RCCL cruise with excursions and the soda package was 1/2 of what the same on DCL would have been. For summer 2014 it looks like that gap is growing where DCL is going to be more than double. I wonder what DCL is thinking but some people will pay it, but I think with past clearance sales they are finding not enough. On our last cruise on the Fantasy if we would have waited we would have saved a bundle even with the OBB, so that negative memory is still with me as I look into 2014.

Its interesting though RCCL announced a 6th ship with Dreamworks http://www.usatoday.com/story/cruis...bbean-dreamworks-mariner-of-the-seas/1750959/

I just have to chime in...

Same cruise we took this year for category 4A - verandah for a family of 5 has jumped by 4K for 2014. We loved the Western and wanted to do the Eastern but for 4K price increase I will absolutely pass. Now I get to sit back and wait until they offer another DVC deal b/c they have overpriced cabins again and can't fill them.

:confused3

I booked, this is our first cruise, and we're going in January (I homeschool) which makes it cheaper. We're paying $4923, for 2 adults and 3 children (9, 6, and 4).

Out of curiousity I looked at similar cruises (7 night caribbean out of PC) around the same time. On most of those we would have to book 2 cabins to accomodate 5 people. I can't handle not having a window, and we have young kids who can't be in a non-connected cabin without an adult. It actually was more expensive to go with someone else (as far as I could tell), and that's without all the Disney perks. So I don't feel too bad for what we are spending.

Needing to have an accessible cabin I can never take advantage of the Special last minute rates. So they may drop but we can not take advantage of it. :( That said I love the mouse I so enjoy the shows on DCL. We have been actively checking RCCL. Since they have the Dream Works characters it seems like a good trade for a lot less money. I am one trip away from Platinum it will be a long time till we get there. Disney is getting greedy. The need a way to pay of the ships I guess. Have no idea how they are going to fill all the ships all out of Florida without discount rates.

How is this fair to the vast majority of the population who live outside of FL? Must be nice to be able to live inside your bubble.

Its not fair and I think their pricing structure at this point is flawed. Anyone would be hard pressed to find another cruise line with prices in 2014 higher than in 2013 right now, other than Disney.

my quote

June 29 to July 5. cat 4b 2A 3c (15,12,9). $9727 :scared1:

$2000 more than same type room on Allure.

All I could say was WHOA!!!!

I agree that the prices are crazy ridiculous expensive, especially for the summer months. However the whole "fair" concept confuses me.
If its not "fair" to get FL resident discounts, then it is also not "fair" that there are military discounts. Its not "fair" that police/fire/teachers can get hotel room discounts. Its not "fair" that people can get onboard booking discounts. Free upgrades are not "fair". Well guess what...life is not "fair".

DCL is a for-profit corporation that is looking to make money at the end of the day. And sometimes the easiest way to do that is to give a discount to someone that lives close by, thereby increasing the likelihood that they will book since there is no airfare or 16 hour car ride involved in them getting to you.
I live in NY. I booked what I could afford at a time convenient for me. If I found their prices to offend my sensibilities, I would vacation elsewhere. But I certainly wouldn't look to crucify the residents of FL while I did it.

Exactly :thumbsup2

So even though I think its not fair, I was very happy to book a Florida Resident deal on the Dream for next month. 3 nights, 2 adults and 1 child in a balcony cabin for less than $1000. Cheaper than Carnival Sensation that weekend, a 20 year old ship.

That's awesome. Enjoy!

That IS awesome, we are just jealous!

I think the butthurtedness was due to the feeling of Floridian glee that with 4 ships within a couple hours of each other the discounts will be plentiful. I'm fine with not getting them but I don't want my nose rubbed in the fact that my loss is someone else's gain either. But I'm mad at Disney for creating this scenario, not you guys! No offense at all meant, I'm not ready to live there anyway! :thumbsup2

Speaking of DVC, I can't wait to see what the 2014 point schedule looks like (not published yet) . Pretty sure our 275 points won't be enough to book one person on a 3 day off season cruise. :scared1:

Maybe, but your 275 points are worth a minimun of $2750 is you decided to rent them

good for you! stands to reason the locals are the most flexible w/last minute rates.

i'm eligible for the DVC promos but they're too last minute for our pattern of travel.

I just wish DCL would open the military rate to be more inclusive (i.e. not necessarily active or retired) ala most other lines.:wizard:
