Just looked at OKW for 2014 and its £700 more than we paid for the same 2 weeks last summer. (checked invoice from complete orlando - accomidation and tickets only).

At the new price it would now not be worth staying on site to get the free disney dining at its £1540 more than staying in the villa that we love. We can deffinately eat for that (may not as much/nice as with the plan but we found that the plan was way way too much food for us.

Just a note to those booking - we looked through all the sites so far- disney/complete/thomson/virgin/ocean florida. And strangely virgin - pricing a room in a mod and upgrading to the dining plan was a good bit less (or with complete and disney- virgin prices meant that your direct flights were coming in at £450 each in the summer hols) than all the others. So it may be worth pricing up with them before booking.

We priced up the same holiday we had this year for next year same dates. Ok we have to pay for DD plane seat now but it was more then twice what we paid for this year :0. We are off to California for two weeks instead it was so much cheaper.

Ours is only £200 more for the same thing but its in oct instead of nov for okw and tickets

The last few years have had deeper discounts than usual due to the state of the US economy and falling visitor numbers but from what I hear Disney vistor numbers are back up near normal so they don't seem to have the need to discount 2014 as much as they have the last 3-4 years.

Here are the nightly rates for a studio we paid for the 4 years with the free DDP deal (tickets extra)
The jump from 2012 to 2013 was too much for us so this August we are staying offsite, next years rise is not quite as bad but add it to the big rise from 2012 to 2013 and its a massive rise.
Its not just the nightly rate, increases in menu prices also means increase in gratuity, onsite DDP costs us around $20/meal, offsite $10/meal.
If you like a pint with your meal, onsite $6 ($7.47 with tax & tip) Orlando Alehouse $2 ($2.49 with tax & tip) equates to $5 extra for every pint you drink.
In the early days it really was free dining, at current prices the dining is worked into the nightly rate, its not free anymore.

2009 £80
2010 £87 (9% increase)
2011 £100 (15%)
2012 £118 (18%)
-----------
2013 £147 (25%)
2014 £160 (9%)

I have just realised that I was compairing 2012 with 2014 as we are not going this summer (did busch and a cruise at Xmas instead as DD has an egineering placement job this summer). Thanks for pointing that out looks like the big diff was infact for 2013 which I didn't price up.

It's been this way in for booking via the US site/by phone for years now; I just wish they would also give us the option of Free Dining OR a room discount. For example, I have looked at OKW as there is practically no price difference between that and POFQ for our dates, but you are forced to take the regular DDP or just forfeit it altogether, without the option of a room discount and paying for the DDP you want or just going OOP. Wish they would make it more simple :worried:

Have you looked into booking room only but not using Disney?
For example I am looking for a few nights this August, looked at Animal Kingdom Lodge Disney UK £202/nt. Otel.com £132/nt after 7% Facebook code & 6% Quidco.
Same room for same dates next August £253/nt (add tix for free DDP)
For 2 people using otel.com would be my choice and buying the food as I wanted.

Just checked and this year we are paying for a 1 bed £221 per night less the combine & save takes it to £209.95.

Next year it is £246 per night and no combine and save offers. That's a whopping 17% increase :scared1:

same here SSR and OKW £900 more for exact same dates next year than we paid this April. Although I think next year easter will fall within the date.

DD13 wants to go back (again), Id rather do LA again, as I feel its a LOT of money to essentially just do the exact same holiday 12 months later. This was our 10th visit and felt we missed big chunks of parks, and just went in head down and straight to our favourite attractions. Would rther the money (less money in fact) was spend on disneyland and vegas that weve only visited one time before :confused3

I totally agree Wayne the dining plan cost around $25-$80 per day on grats, and a wine/beer included. We thought If we did go back next year, may just book moderate get QS free and pay OOP for the handful of TS we actually want. Felt this year we were just eating in places just for the sake of using the TS

Thanks Wayne. I will definitely look into that. I've clearly fallen into the trap of doing things the same way year after year ......

Because there are only 2 of us in a room, a room discount is almost always better than free DDP, usually still one up on paying for the DDP as there are only two people. :thumbsup2

Also check renting points, a studio at AKL which I quoted £132/nt for could be as low as £80/nt by renting at a low rate.

It crossed my mind the other night. I have no clue whatsoever about the ins and outs of DVC and renting points so I may post a newbie style thread on the DVC board - unless it is appropriate to post one on UKTP (?)

I don't know a great deal about it myself, probably best posting on the DVC forums, you will get more help on there.

Feel free to post here (on UKTP) - I will try and help you out with what I know. Since I have rented points before and am now a DVC owner, I can probably answer most of your questions :)

Thank you
I just didn't want to post in the 'wrong' place when there is a dedicated part of the forum for DVC but if it's good with you all, I'll pop my questions on here :goodvibes

I think it very much depends on your dates and flights because my trip this year (booked this time last year) with WDTC was £2856, the same deal this year is £3026, so it's a rise of £170.00 which I don't think is particularly unreasonable.

So many factors to consider, every family will have a different view. I am just in the middle of booking our hotel for August offsite, costing me £32/nt incl breakfast, Wifi, parking & lots more. Food costs us approx £60/day so we will be paying about £90/nt, again my table below, upto 2012 at £118/nt it was worth staying at OKW, this year at £147 was too high for me, next year way too high at £160.
I have really enjoyed doing DDP for the past years but last year I found myself getting wound up with the prices, auto 18% tip, increased menu costs, etc, our meal at Sanaa we bought a starter, a couple of drinks and tips, it came to as much as a complete meal with tips offsite. The costs were so high I couldn't relax and enjoy as much as previous DDP trips. I also think service suffers slightly with parties of 6 or more.

Saying that if you prefer being onsite and doing DDP, have 4 in a room then it can work out a reasonable option, thankfully we enjoy staying offsite and dining offsite as much.

My figures were for the exact same time in July and we don't book packages as I can do it myself cheaper.

I still say 17% in one year is too much.
