Thoughts?

I am going to purchase a crossover in the next few weeks. I have been looking at the high end ones (Mercedes ML series, Lexus RX series, Beemers and Acuras - yes I live in a Stepford Wives community where we all drive our snob cars :rotfl:)

However, I was getting tires on my present car and read an article about the new Sorento. Automobile Mag was raving about it. So, I went home and did some more research and everybody like Edmunds, Blue Book, etc said the re-engineered 2014 Sorento was the one to buy.

So, I am intrigued. I could get 2 of them, with more bells and whistles, for what it would cost me for one of the snob cars. Kia is running some outstanding incentives till 7/8.

But I also have heard so many horror stories on Kia's reliability and that you really need that 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. The reason I love Lexus and Acura is for their great reliability! We tend to keep cars till they run into the ground.

So, if anybody has any experience with the new Sorento, I would love to hear about it.

No experience with the 2014, but I've had a 2013 Sorento for a year. I love it. It's been very reliable. I mostly drive around town, but we've taken it on a couple of road trips and it's great. It has a nice amount of cargo space, and our two 6' teenaged boys are very comfortable in the back seat. To me, it feels like a higher end car, considering what we paid. It handles well and has that solid feeling like it's well designed and built. My sister has a BMW X5 and has had lots of problems with it, whereas I've had virtually none with my KIA so far. Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend it.

We've had one for over 2 years and I just love it. No problems other than a DVD player wire coming loose a couple times. We haven't paid for anything other than routine service. They actually just mailed us a $300 gift card for having the car two years and being loyal customers (this is our first Kia) to use on service.

The good news is Kia quality is pretty darn good. The bad news is, their prices have inched up.

OP, for the last year, I have looked at, and test driven, all of the cars you mentioned in addition to the GMC Acadia, Toyota Highlander and Audi Q7.

I just bought a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and I'm happy with it....for that price, I could only look at used Lexus, Mercedes, Acuras and Beemers.

I drove an Acura for 9 years, loved it, still do, but it was really showing it's age...some little clunks and bumps, and none of the technology updates. However, I just didn't like the way the Mercedes drove (felt lurchy), the BMW X5 was too small in back, I didn't love the new Acura like I love the old one and the Lexus was great but I hated the mouse on the center console.

So the Pathfinder has enough new updates for me, is huge inside, (allegedly) good gas mileage and was decently priced. I never would have looked at the old one, too boxy, but they redesigned and I like it!

The bad press on KIA's are on the RIO models not the other cars.

I don't have the Sorento but do drive the Soul. I got my first one in 2009 (2010 model) and it was one of the first ones off the boat from Korea. I had the side molding piece come off that was replaced under warranty and this week had the brake light fixed for a warranty recall. No other problems at all.

I and DH have been so pleased with KIA that when his car died in February we bought another Soul to replace it.

We drive these cars everywhere. To the beach, up the mountain to hike in summer, ski in winter, long road trips. etc. DH says they are like driving your couch. :drive:

I say go for it. :thumbsup2

I have owned 3 Kias and they have all been extremely reliable. They have outstanding safety records too.
