2014 Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** Updated 7/29 with Corral Info

I think it's also good to mention for first time runners that the photographers with the characters are not Disney or Photopass photographers. The photos they take will not be included with anything you might have purchased from Disney, but will be for sale individually after the race.

I don't know about DL, but at my WDW races there were always character handlers who were happy to take a photo with your phone or camera but NOT the photographers.

I'm sorry if these questions have been asked but I've read through much of this thread and still have a couple questions. I'm thinking we should get to the 10 k about an hour early?? And it might be quite chilly at 4:30 am so what do people do about wearing jackets pre race? I don't want to run with it. I also don't really want to run with a camera or phone. Are the professional photos quite pricey? Also, I'm running with my sister and I don't think she'll be able to keep up with me. Will there be a place for me to wait for her at the finish line?
Thanks in advance for any input.

This is my first RunDisney event too, but I've researched the answers to some of your questions.

We're planning to get there at 4:30am too. Apparently you can dump your jacket at the corral before you start and Disney will donate it to charity. I plan on taking two 'disposable' jackets - one for the 5k and one for the 10k.

The professional photos seem to be very expensive. If you want lots of photos from the event, I would take a small camera/phone with you. If you just want one it's probably not so bad. Apparently you can buy a whole package, but it's more expensive than PP.

You're best off planning a meeting spot in advance in case you get separated from your sister. I'm expecting the finish line area will be crowded and chaotic. I would organise to meet somewhere in DTD away from the crowds.

There is usually a family meet up area with signs/initials in the finish area. You can always wait for her under a pre-designated initial.

Personally, I didn't find the marathon photo prices all that bad. For one or two photos, it's ridiculous, but for all of them in digital it was reasonable. Even more so if you take advantage of the discount offer they always seem to have at the expo. Or just wait long enough after the race for them to start sending discount offers.

Thanks! I didn't know they offered discounts at the expo. Will look out for it :thumbsup2

Tinkerbell 2014 was my first Disney race. I'm a slow runner, so maybe it was easier for me to meet up with my family, but I had no trouble at all. They had signed up for text notices in advance, so they had a good idea of when I'd be coming in and could be close to the finish line. They didn't see me cross, but saw me as soon as I got through the "food line".

4:30 should be a good time for you to get there for the 10k. I don't know exactly when they will be opening up the corrals but that should get you there early enough to get into your corral fairly early and not crowded at the back.

When we get closer to race weekend and I get more information from work (that I'm allowed to share, lol) I'll see if I can get an actual time for them to open the corrals this year. Quite a few people on my team run the special events like this so I shall ask around! I want to take notes on timelines better this year so questions are easier to answer for future race weekends.

BTW, remember that this will be 4:30 on a September morning in SoCal. Chances are it won't be chilly at all. Last year I believe it was in the 80's and muggy before we even started. You may not need a jacket, but it may still be a good idea to have something lightweight for the start of the run. You can always discard a layer along the course (not just in the corrals) and it will be picked up after and donated. I usually purchase something on clearance throughout the year specifically for this reason, with no intention of keeping it.

The post-race area can be pretty awkward to navigate once it gets filled with friends, family, and the runners. But just decide on a meeting place beforehand and it won't be too bad. They have tents set up alphabetically as you enter the area after the run so you can pick up items you checked. That's always a great place to start. I usually tell my friends to meet me by the ice tents!

i am someone who can get easily cold. if it's going to be at all chilly, i usually take something i don't mind donating--whether it's a sweatshirt or a too-big hoodie.

as for photos, i use my iPhone. i have carried a small, waterproof camera in the past. but, i'm trying to go without a belt this year, so iPhone it is! in January, a lot of my photos with characters never showed up through their photographers, so i was glad i'd used my iPhone. i did wait until they ran a special to order my finish-line photos. i think they did a three digital files for $29.95 deal (or something similar).

Along these lines, if you don't want to take an article of clothing but are still worried about what the temperatures are that early in the morning, a cheap option I see frequently are trash bags, or those foil emergency blankets. The latter of which my friend and I opted for for the Tinker Bell 10k last year. I also saved the runDisney foil blankets they hand out at the end of the events and I just plan on using that for the start of my future events as well. No fuss!

For anyone who has yet to see the course maps, here they are! I've added them to the OP as well, along with park hours for the weekend and a few other updates:

I know they aren't the greatest quality, but at least it's something!!

Can anyone tell me if they check Ids at any time other than Check In?

Race related? No, just when you are picking up your race packets at the Expo.

If you're asking if they check ID's elsewhere throughout the resort during your stay, the answer is yes they do.
