2014 Disneyland 1/2 Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** Updated 7/29 with Corral Info

Sooo I can't get the bib tracker to work, I followed the instructions , what am I missing? Are the bib numbers out for the half yet??

The numbers are out for the half. Are you changing the name and birthday information in the URL or just on the page? You need to do it in the address bar.

I'm sure runDisney will send an official link with information on accessing them properly soon. Probably when they release the corral assignments!

It's not working for me either, even by trying multiple birth date variables. Perhaps they really did take it down for now?

It's certainly getting closer! Just had my wisdom tooth taken out last night so I'm home from both jobs until tomorrow night (hopefully that wasn't a bad decision to try and work) so I'm going to finally get some time to reply and update these half marathon threads!

Hopefully everyone has been able to keep up with their training better than I have, lol.

Yeah, it doesn't really matter. We plan to get there early and be at the front of the corral anyway. We plan to run the whole thing, so may even move up a couple of corrals once we start, assuming we can make our way around all the walkers.

I just wish there wasn't so much negativity on these threads about being in the last corral. It's really off-putting to a first timer!

I'm a running newbie, but did run the Tink 10k in January.

Don't underestimate how crowded the course will be with up to 10,000 runners. Even if you run the entire way, make sure there are never more than 2 in your group side-by-side. With stops for character photos, there are often runners sprinting from behind you to get to the next photo op.

But if you maintain a pace at better than 16 minute miles, you will not be swept, even if you are the last over the start mat.

Even if you don't have time to stop for photos, just running through Disneyland is such a great experience. Enjoy yourself! -- Suzanne

I just tried it and, though it did work for me yesterday, it is now saying "The Site is Not Available." Sorry... it is no fun waiting.

Belle, hope you feel better soon. Take care.

I think I feel pretty ready. I did 10 miles on Sunday and I recovered well. I'm a power walker and I have to admit to being one of those afraid of being swept, but I've never done one of these so have no idea what to expect. So, in mind, I'm sort of not sure where I'm at but I'm ready in body.

Getting the bib number was more exciting than I expected and I hope the site is up for everyone very soon.

Gosh, you are a trooper!! I sure hope your dental journey will be all done soon! Speedy healing to you

I'm sorry your training hasn't been what you hoped for. You have run more than half-dozen 1/2's, though, so I but you can do this one in your sleep! :yay:

I'm in! Probably way late to the party on this one but I find that if I'm on disboards too much I obsess and plan fake trips...haha!

I'll be running Dumbo! I ran the WDW marathon in January so I'll also be getting my first (and probably only!) coast to coast! My friend Chelsey will be running her first 10k as well so it will be a super fun weekend!

We're staying at Paradise Pier!

I got you added to the runner list!

If you haven't seen it already, check out the DL 1/2 and DDD thread on the WISH board for directions on how to find your waiver/bin number!

I'm 20690, which if the corrals follow last year's assignments, should put me in Corral A! :)

It does look as though the link is no longer working. But don't fret! Soon enough we will get the official email (and when I get it, I will post the link here for those who may not have) for our bib numbers and waivers.

I think it is because a lot of DIS runners/walkers seem to have a real fear of being swept. The earlier you start, the more time you have and the less likely you will be swept. And there will be crowds of walkers in front of you when you start. But at PHM, I started back in N with my mom when I had a B bib because she didn't have proof of time either. We ran the whole thing, except for some areas around the castle, coming out of MK, and going into Epcot where the course path really narrows.

I will say that the photo lines were almost all too long for us to bother stopping until the last few characters near Epcot (I guess people were excited to almost be done and just wanted to get there!). But we didn't stop for photos because of the long waits and we wanted to keep going, not because we would have been swept.

I agree with ^. It's the fear of being swept and the fear of the unknown, especially for those new to runDisney or running events period. I know I was super paranoid about being in the last corral for my first half, and of getting swept. But it's OK! And it's normal. Everyone starts out somewhere.

If you're nervous about getting swept, just try and get to the front of your corral and don't stop for photos unless its an absolute favorite until you come back for another one and have a better idea of where you'll finish.

There's nothing wrong with the last corral :)

I'm doing Dumbo, and would like to be added to the list, please -- Thanks!! :)

It's certainly not been a fun journey so far! Recovering from this should signify the end of the worst of it. I have to wait on the crowns and then a couple of fillings and deep cleaning and then I should finally be done! Thank you, though.

And the one thing that's keeping me from freaking out is knowing that I've done this before and can do it again. My training always lacked off before each half I've done and I've always told myself the next time will be different! I will be more prepared! And then of course something has come up each time. But half of the battle is mental in my opinion and I know I can make it through this.

Now I just need to be able to eat a little better!

Why was I thinking I had already added you, lol. Sorry for the delay but you're up now!

Checked mine, and if the corrals hold somewhat true to last year I'll have moved up again! I like that trend. My first Disneyland half I started in F and last year I moved up to E. It looks like there's a possibility of being in D this year!

I've continually been able to improve my time (even if only by 5 minutes) and I'm hoping to keep that trend going!

See, that's the thing. I was NEVER worried about being swept until I started seeing all the negativity about being in the last corral! It never occurred to me to think that everyone in the last corral might be swept :rotfl:

Even though I still consider myself pretty slow, I'm training way under pace and hope to run as much as I can through the congestion.

I hope I do get to take some photos and have the opportunity to enjoy some of the Disney touches like characters etc. Coming from Australia, doing a RunDisney event is a pretty big deal (could be once in a life time for me). it's not as easy as just waiting until the next one.

My post came off more negative than I meant to and I'm sorry! I probably shouldn't post while I'm in this much pain and medicated, lol. Especially when I have to do it is spurts since I cat sit at my computer for more than a few minutes before I have to lie back down.

But please, don't feel like you can't stop for photos, and if you do it's not going to equal being swept. My intention certainly isn't that at all. But for what it's worth, standing around in line for photos won't make the experience either. Most lines will be long which I personally don't like to do with or without the fear/threat of falling behind the pace. It's just too much standing around for me, but all the more power to those who do stop for photos.

My best tips for photo memories aren't the character stops, but in front of your favorite views. Rather than a character line, I stopped for photos in front of the WOC fountains (because they have them running and are pretty) along with others and offer to swap taking pictures with someone and then I'm on my way again.

Justo remember that being in the last corral does not equal being swept. Not in the slightest. And try not to get wrapped up in someone else who is nervous about it if you're not.

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make (and probably failing at) is enjoy the entire thing, the whole process if it, and try not to get swept up (probably bad choice of words) in someone else's negativity about it. Just do you :)

Annnnnnd I should probably go back to bed.

I totally missed that you'd had your wisdom teeth out! I remember what that was like :crazy2: Hope you feel better soon :goodvibes

Don't apologise, I'm not offended or anything. Just wanted to point out, since you said I could do characters etc at the next one, that it's not really an option for everyone.

I certainly plan on enjoying the whole process. It will make for some really fun family memories :thumbsup2 And most of the photo stops I can see us doing will be on the way around too (like the WOC fountains you mentioned, probably the castle etc). Will definitely bypass the characters if the lines look too long (although one would be nice, maybe one towards the end if we're doing really well on pace). Thanks for the tips :thumbsup2

Thanks, lol. It's been a rough 24 hours but I can't sleep so I'm trying to keep myself occupied and getting myself into trouble (I've posted far too many selfies on Instagram lately ....)

Everyone tackles the races differently and how and when they will stop for photos. I will say, when it comes to a character I have to see I will stop regardless of line time.

But I get too distracted by the CM's that I see who I know and usually force them to take photos with my sweaty self for the heck of it. So I may not be the best person to take advice from, lol.

I am curious how many characters are usually out and about on the course for the Half? And are people pretty willing to take pictures for each other? I am running alone, but will have my iphone for music/pictures (hope the battery holds out!). I hope to be able to get at least a few pictures with characters along the way, but hate asking people to do that ;).

Just wondering...are the commemorative items like pins and shirts a surprise or will photos be released soon? Thanks :)

I just wanted to give a few tips for the phone battery: 1. make sure to clear/turn off all apps, 2. if you aren't using a gps device (nike+, etc), make sure to turn off the location finder, 3. put it on airplane mode if you don't need any internet service, and 4. put your brightness as low as you can handle it -- the brighter it is, the more battery it uses (but, don't put it so dim that it will be hard to see when running).

I'm sure there will be cast members there that will be willing to take pictures for you. And if it's anything like the WDW races there will be photographers there from Marathon Photo that would probably help out.

The majority of the characters will have CM's with them to hep you out with photos, but for a lot of the area photos (like the WOC fountains for example) will not - but there are usually many other people stopping for photos who are more than happy to snap one for you if you snap one for them. The character selection can vary from well known favorites to a few more obscure characters on occasion. My favorites are when they have the parade floats out, sometimes with characters and sometimes not.
