So how's every one doing on the destash and declutter? It seems like many of us are slowing down as this year starts to wind down. But we've all made some progress, and that is what counts!!
StephMK, I love your "home binder" idea. I've toyed with the idea of doing something like that for years. Maybe that should be my long-term 2015 project. .... I could get one portion done every month for the entire year (that would help remind me of seasonal things like taxes and Christmas club).
I did just a bit of destashing recently.... I changed wallets and decided to start carrying a purse again (I had some shoulder issues a few years ago and stopped carrying a shoulder bag because it was causing pain). As I changed wallets I cleaned out and cut up a bunch of expired store credit cards, some frequent shopper cards from stores I don't go to, etc. Then I tossed the old wallet and took my other "overflow" credit card wallet and put it in the donation bag. I put the now filled wallet into a purse that I had been stashing in my closet for YEARS, added a few things I've been missing out on carrying around (chapstick, mints, comb) and filled my purse and it is ready to go. While searching for this purse, I took out a few other pocketbooks and wallets that I've had in storage for a long time and added them to the donation bag.
I am not big on pocketbooks and purses, so now I'm down to one black one (currently using), another black one with a pretty silk scarf woven through it, one brown one, one pretty leather striped Dolce and Gabanna I got at a thrift store this past summer (love it but don't know when I might ever use it) and a pink striped designer bag I got for a steal at a yard sale last summer (which I have also never used). If I can convince myself to part with one of the striped bags I probably will.... but I figure if a woman can't find room in her closet for just
4 extra pocketbooks, what is this world coming to!!????????!!
I'm also really good at collecting free and cheap furniture that I always intend to make over, but don't always get around to. I did really good painting two bookcases (one that I already had and one that I bought specifically for a purpose) last year for DD's dorm.... but I have recently acquired a large dining room table (with a leaf)for free, a bookcase (bought it from a FB yard sale thinking it was in okay shape but it fell apart before I got it home

), and a free small two drawer night table (I have a purpose in mind for it). The bookcase was nearly going to the trash because I didn't think it would take paint well (it is that cheapo particle board stuff from
Walmart), but I decided to take a risk and try my hand at decoupage... and so far I am pleasantly surprised!! I have the entire outside shell covered, inside and out, and now I just need to decoupage the shelves. I am using pages from a few old books.... a WWII book about battle ships, and old Readers Digest condensed book with some cool vintage graphics, and an old mechanical engineer's handbook with lots of neat graphics and charts. This will be a bookcase for my son's room and if the finish holds up, I could see him using this for many years.
If the bookcase goes together well and seems to hold up, I plan to decoupage the night table and give it to my DD to use for a printer stand. Her printer is currently on a plastic crate in her dorm.

I just need to decide if I am going to cover it with something Disney or with fish and ocean pictures.
Anyhooo..... off to try to finish up the two shelves while I have an hour to myself! I'll share a picture later when it is all done!................P
