2014 - destash thread The Year of the Great Purge

Finally made space in DS's playroom for his Lego that were sitting in my formal living room. I had wanted to move some of his toys to the basement since he doesn't play with them. But, of course, he wouldn't let me. So I made some room in his bedroom closet and put them on an upper shelf. I was able to purge some of my toy stash that were for toddler gifts. Off to Purple Heart they will go. hopefully I'll get some time while he is at school on Wed to do some clearing out of his playroom.

not a very productive day unfortunately, this always seems to happen on DH's day off! I wasted an hour trying to get the toddler to nap only to give up. It's going to be a horrendous night as he's refusing to go to sleep. We had a few decent days and nights but I see it's back to normal in this household. Who needs sleep?! :confused3

I do have our goodwill load ready to go. 3 garbage bags and 1 box full. It's mostly books/movies & household goods. I think the next load will go to salvation army since it's all going to be clothes.

Just popping in to say hey. Not much purging here, DS17 had a huge indoor track meet yesterday so

we were in Providence all day.

Mom stayed with the little kids and they got there room cleaned. It looks great, now we need to do a purge though.
Tonight I am working on sorting my wardrobe again. All of the laundry is caught up and have no more room for socks and undergarments! So I'm purging. Then I will work in my craft room. This room is 1000% out of control, I need to reclaim it.
DH is supposed to be putting in the water line for the fridge, only been waiting on that for 2 months, but he's sitting here watching a Fast and Furious marathon. ERGH!!!!

Shoot... seriously??? I was in RI yesterday and could have driven RIGHT THROUGH Providence! I could have stopped in to say hi! GRRR! Let me know next time you will be in RI!! .................P

I am very grateful for this thread. I love that I can come here and yammer every day about my progress and to do list! Besides my husband, nobody else cares!

We love yammer here! Love to read other folks yammer too! It is a nice way to keep us motivated!............P

We have sold a washing machine, dryer, recliner, and 2 bar stools. Hoping yo get rid of an old bedroom suit that were all in our basement. Some trip money and more room downstairs. Heading to children's consignment shop on Thursday.

UGH! I knew I should have texted you. We were at the Career tech school near J&W, then we got dinner at Providence Place Mall, The Melting Pot was soooo good!!

DS was talking to your DD yesterday (?) and said she sounded really busy.

I will let you know when we are there next time. The weeks race is near by home, but not sure if he will make it to states, coming off an injury.

We were right near J&W last weekend. Saw "Wicked" at the Providence Performing Arts Center. Ate at an "all-grilled-cheese" restaurant right across from J&W. Thought of your DS while we were there!..........P

Got a few things posted on the FB yardsale group to get rid of, but as I started researching price points on a few of them, I am discovering that they may have some real value (no, not thousands, but probably more than the $20 I was going to ask), so I need to do a bit more research and perhaps find a better way to sell them. Wouldn't it be exciting if they really WERE valuable? Anyone know any good resources for researching Haviland Limoges china?? (Yes, I've tried Google and Ebay.)

I need to prep for work tonight, so I will spend the next 10 minutes on a small purge and then buckle down to work!...............P

Since I had to work anyhow, I figured I'd purge/clean out my work space in the home office (I just have one small spot for paperwork).... I purged 6 months worth of stuff I decided I just don't need to hold on to, filled the paper recycling bin and cleaned up the top of the desk! My goal will be to keep the paperwork for this job limited to this one small slot in the desk (4.5 inches wide, just tall enough for standard folders and the like). Also went through the other two slots next to it that hold the phone books and specialized computer paper (photo paper, labels, t-shirt transfers). Managed to purge two small local phone books. Baby steps!.............P

I was supposed to help at DD's school today after I got out of school myself. But her teacher doesn't need me. I may try and get back into the basement to keep plugging along.

I listed all my ebay items thus far this weekend. I'll have to see if I get any takers. If not, onto goodwill they go!

DD tossed 3 pairs of shoes that don't fit and we got the old fridge out of the basement. I have it listed on craig's list so hopefully it will sell. I will give it 2weeks and if it doesn't sell then we will junk it. I need to work on oldest DS as he is my pack rat. ;)

DAY 21: COATS AND JACKETS - No matter if it's summer or winter where you are right now, we're tackling coats and jackets today.

Cleaned out DS's wardrobe today and realized I need to stop shopping. I found a whole drawer of brand new clothes that are now too small for him. And a whole pile of short sleeved shirts that are his size but he already has a whole section in his closet. He'll just need more shorts for the summer. Need to get some bins this week so I can sort the huge pile of clothes that are too small for him and hold them until my niece finds out if she is having a boy in March. Also, cleaned and organized his sock and underwear drawer. Now it should be easier for him to find socks. Organized my pants so that my shorts, capris, casual pants and work pants are grouped by color. Now if it would just stop snowing...

Everyone is doing a great job! I am trying to get some motivation to get onto my to do list. This working all night thing is getting old really quick, I guess I'm not particularly cut out for 3rd shift. ;)

I did get the last bill from our IN house paid though so I can cross it off my to-do list. I worked a bunch of overtime so I used that to pay it. I know it is not really decluttering but it is mentally and I can close the books on IN.

Ok craft room destashing buddies - had a snow day today so decided to "bite the bullet" & dive in. No where near done, however, I did get 3 bags of trash out! Sorted and put away some craft stuff that I had randomly strewn about from various girl scout meetings. Cleaned out about 8 reuseable shopping bags that I have a bad habit of using for other things & just tossong in that room until later.
I sorted my wrapping paper & boxes that I keep stocked from after Christmas clearance & tossed some that were kind of rough looking - I have a lot so I didn't feel bad tossing.
I repurposed some empty boxes to hold the favors for DS's bday party coming up in a few weeks. Found quite a few things I can use for end of year teacher gifts. And found some paperwork that I've been missing for a few months! Woo hoo! I am happy today!

I'm at work here at school today, so no de-stashing for me today.... unless I make some time when I get home. Maybe I'll make a plan while I'm here about what I am going to tackle tonight. I am also working tomorrow and Friday, so it won't be a big destash week for me. oh well. I'm so glad to see that many of you are really cranking along well! .....................P

I worked on the playroom yesterday and still have some more to do, but it's start. Got 1 large bag of trash/broken toys out of there and 2 trash bags full of things to donate that the kids have outgrown. I still want to do some more organizing, but it felt good to free up some space down there. We have a big old TV that someone gave us down there that is hooked up with the kids' games, but no table to put it on, so it's sitting on the floor. I'd like to get a table (coffee table or something similar that is sturdy enough to handle it and wide enough it can't get pushed off accidentally - no one sells them anymore, it seems), but I've been looking and can't find anything that fits the bill so far. I may check IKEA one of these days, but I don't know if they will have anything sturdy enough. Seriously, that thing must weigh 80-100 lbs because it took both my husband and me to get it down the stairs. I think if we ever sell this house it stays with the house!

I also need to get our old TV cabinet out to the curb (it's 1/2'' too narrow to fit the big TV). The small TV in the living room died and needs to get taken to the recycle center, and there is no need for a cabinet now that we have no TV in that room! If we ever do replace it, it will be one of those new flat-screen ones, but we've been doing so well without it I don't think we'll be buying anything new for a long time. So on my list of things to do this week is get the broken TV to the recycle center and also go through all our kids' DVDs to see what can be donated.
