Since I suspect I'm driving my sister bonkers right now about a trip not happening for five months, I'll post this next question here. Right now, I have a deal booked for August 16-23. Three nights at the Poly, CL. Four nights, SV, at the Beach Club. I admit, view concerns me a little, even though we didn't spend that much time on the balcony our last August trip. Still, the magical deal doesn't have rooms available for garden view. I'm contemplating upgrading to a deluxe view, with the hopes that there will be some sort of discount released for late summer (although I don't know that the deluxe rooms get discounts often). We're a party of five - three adults and two kids. One of the adults is my niece, and while she's only 18 (or will be by then), she's 5'11". I think coming from the larger room at the Poly and having the club lounge as an escape and going to a standard room at the BC might make things feel a bit too close. The deluxe room has the bonus of more space, the lounge, and a better view. I've convinced myself it's worth the difference in price. Anyone think of any cons, besides the obvious cost issue? We have the BC standard room view booked for $922 for four nights. The deluxe room, without discount, is twice that. An extra $100 per night and I'd say it's a no-brainer. But it's more like an extra $275 per night. That number seems crazy to me.

ETA: that number is totally crazy. My tween pointed out we could eat at Flying Fish every night and then some with that money.

Hi everyone! I am looking forward to our first BC visit in mid September. Question: What does everyone like to do on the first night of arrival? We have been Poly guests a few times and always have dinner at Ohana after unpacking and unwinding a bit by the pool. I'm wondering if we should do the same at BC, just have dinner at Cape May? I'm looking for fun a fun and perhaps relaxing way to kick off our vacation (myself, husband, and boys ages 11 and 8).

Thanks so much!

Our "usual" first day is to go to Epcot, and since our flight gets in around lunch time, we try to get into our room, but if it's not ready yet, we change into "park clothes" that we packed in carryon, check our carry on bags with the bell service, and head to the park. We do a counter service meal (usually at France) and wander around until dinner reservations at Rose & Crown, and Illuminations. On the way back, we stop by the bell service desk and grab our carryon bags, and room info, then head to our room, where our checked luggage has magically appeared!

Up until recently, our trips have been only adults, but now that we have our first grandbaby, I foresee many changes in our future Disney trips! :)

Tarak, I would think that in August you really won't be spending any time on the balcony given the heat and humidity that comes with that time of the year. Save the money, stay SV, close the blinds to the room and don't open them and then you won' know what you are missing (or aren't missing in the case of SV). Just my $0.02 worth.

Just got back from my stay at Beach Club. I found the front desk people to be hit or miss.
I had standard room view booked and I was given 3699. We didn't spend any time in the room the first day until midnight when we went right to bed. I noticed a loud strange noise, like a vacuum cleaner being turned on and then off. 15 minutes later I heard it again. This continued the entire night. When we woke up it went off about every 10 minutes. I stopped by the desk on my way out that morning to find out what could possibly be causing the noise and the lady at the desk pulled out a map and it turns out I am right next door to a service elevator. I asked if there was any other rooms to switch to and she checked and said the only other room available was the one on the other side of the service elevator. She said I could check back later that night to see if they could find me another standard view room and if not, "Maybe I would just get used to it". At these rates, no I am not getting used to listening to loud machinery going off all night. If I didn't have to leave in 5 minutes to catch my shuttle, I would have asked to speak to someone else.

Fortunately, I got someone else later that night and they immediately put me in another room. Which was near the ice machine and the guest elevator, yet was nice and quiet. How many service elevators are there? I'm not one to exaggerate, this was loud and was being used all night.

Also, the day I checked out, we were in a rush and I forgot to put on my gold earrings I always left on the bedside nightstand. I came back that afternoon and asked if anyone in housekeeping had reported them to lost and found and no one did... So someone out there is enjoying my 200 dollar earrings. Lesson learned, always double check everything before leaving.

Edited: Read the first page with answer to this question! :magnify:

Now I'm going to ask a different question. Is the BC marketplace the only place that sells packs of water? The YC fittings and fairings doesn't?

Yeah - I think I'm saving my pennies. We stayed CL at the YC last summer on a bounce back and got a great deal. Unfortunately, we pulled the dumpster view. They were able to move us the next day, which was good because while I wasn't thrilled with the view, the noise from the service vehicles backing up started at 5-ish in the morning. The next room had a much better view, but we honestly didn't spend that much time out on the balcony. And while my niece is tall, she could not care less about what the room looks like. If she's in it, she's probably sleeping... :).

A couple of years ago, I was at the BC under a GV reservation. While trying to fall asleep, after a long day, I kept hearing strange noises on a regular basis, coming from behind the wall, which made it impossible to sleep. I called down to what I thought was the front desk, but was actually an off-site central call center; the CM refused to believe me, when I said it sounded like equipment. The only offer was to send a security guard around. Being about midnight, I declined the offer, realizing a guard could not make the noise disappear. Slipping on a robe, I popped out into the hallway and realized the room was next to the service elevator, which was constantly running...up and down, stopping, restarting, up again, stopping, etc.; it was sheer torture, while trying to catch some sleep.

When I left the room, early the following morning, there was Mousekeeping coming from behind the door. I asked if there was a service elevator, behind the door, and the answer was in the affirmative. That location has got to be among the five worst at the BC.

When I checked out the next day, I mentioned it to a CM. There was no follow-up or accommodation from Disney.

I don't recall the actual floor.

This problem is nothing new, but, obviously, Disney has decided to ignore the condition.

We were in that volleyball courtyard but facing Boardwalk. So our room was prob facing your side. If you are on the beach pathway facing volleyball net we were on the left side.
DO YOU REMEMBER THE EXACT ROOM NUMBER YOU WERE IN AT YACHT CLUB SUE M?

Umm, I'm lucky I remember what I had for breakfast  but I'll go on my laptop and see if I can find my pic of room # lol. It was on CL floor at the end of the hall past lounge. The hall ended in a T but it was at BC, not YC.

Dee,

You are a brave woman to chaperone another 8th grade trip! I can't wait to read that TR!

We will definitely miss Teena. We kept going back and forth between Disney and universal. Both are great. Hope you do get to squeeze in another trip!

I'm with you in Daylight savings time. I would much rather gave it stay light later. I hate when it's almost dark at 4:30!

So good to "see" you! Just catching up on the thread. My older DS was in town this weekend and we have been busy. Good luck in your decision making!

Teena - so glad you had a good check up!

Dee - still awaiting video footage...

If anyone sees those Mickey lifeguard lamps for sale somewhere, let me know. I would love one!

Teena, so glad to hear about your check-up!

Just want to share my excitement - checking in in just 3 days!! We actually extended our stay by one night, it was cheaper to fly out a day early, and spend the night at Pop Century! My plan is to hightail it out of Pop at the crack of dawn and check in at the Beach Club on Wednesday morning...stow our bags, take a walk around the Boardwalk, have breakfast in France, hang at the pool and chill out until our room is ready. I am one of those people who LOVES checking in, so we didn't do online check in or opt for the curbside thing at the Beach Club. Yay!!

Did I know about this???

Somehow, I missed adding you to the Be Our Guest list. Better late than never, right?

Have a fantastic trip!

:woohoo:

We are headed back to Beach Club in November. We are doing a split stay this time. Beach Club from Nov 13-18 and AKL Savannah view from Nov 18-22.

:welcome: back!!!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

At approximately what time will you be arriving at the resort? How long is your travel day?

Do you have park tickets you can use for that day?

We have done both Cape May and Captain's Grille on our arrival day, and I agree that eating "close to home" is a great plan, especially if you will be hitting the pool before or after. My only comment about Cape May, which we love, is that we preferred Captain's Grille on our arrival night because by dinner time, we were just too exhausted to deal with the buffet. But then again, we arrive around 11 am, go immediately to MK, then take the monorail to EPCOT before returning to the BC for dinner, so that could be a factor in our exhaustion... Your mileage may vary.

I see that you have made a decision, which I think is wise. Although only based on anecdotal evidence, I think the bad views at YC are worse than the bad views at BC. Maybe the same with the noise too, but I'm not sure. Although now the rooms near the service elevators are concerning me.

UGH!!! Sorry to hear about the noisy room. That sounds miserable! I am glad that you were able to move to another room. Being unable to sleep due to hotel noise is not something you want to deal with on vacation.

I suggest that you write/email Disney guest communications AND write to the GM of the Beach Club and let them know about your situation with the room. Disney really does pay attention to complaints when they hear them and especially if they hear them about the same issue multiple times.

I have the addresses on the first page, but I'll repost in a minute.

Also sorry to hear about the earrings. I know it is a long shot, but I will hold out a glimmer of hope that they will be returned now that you have reported it. One would think that it would be fairly easy to determine who was responsible for cleaning your room after you checked out and at the very least that person should be asked if they saw anything and to be on the lookout. :magnify:

This summer, we had a one night stay at the Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island. I found a diamond earring stud in the carpet in the changing area. I turned it in to the front desk, and I hope they made an attempt to find the owner. Again, easy enough to check who was in the room before us.

I agree that a room where you are able to hear machinery all night long is not acceptable!

I just had to comment on this. I posted on this thread (maybe last year's BC thread) and also in the BC pics thread that I had a room last year on the 5th Floor CL, off the top of my head I'm thinking 5699, that had the exact same noise!! And I actually snapped pics of the service elevator door outside of my room because that's where I suspected the noise was coming from. I can't believe they don't have enough complaints that they do something about it. The noise sounded like it was right in the wall near my head. It even woke DH up and he NEVER wakes up to noises. I did tell a CM about it and she acted very shocked and surprised, couldn't imagine what the noise was. We were only there 3 nights, so we dealt with it, but we won't be ok with it happening again in a few weeks when we stay there!
