2013 Refillable mugs

They should be be pretty darn close. Our last three stays we had the RFID room keys and, for our next trip, we received a note we should have our APs converted to the RFID pass.

we just got saturday, and didn't receive any communication regarding our AP's :confused3
we used the DDP for the first time in years on our first night (split stay), and the mugs were still the same black, pink, or blue lids (never noticed the yellow pre-purchase lock on them before :scratchin).

on a side note: every day we noticed a number of the panels that cover the RFID door locks laying in the hall (& informed the Front Desk). the covers slip back on easily (ours fell off repeatedly), but i would imagine tampering would be an issue if the panels aren't better attached.

The Disney theme parks have announced the theme of their celebration for 2013 - 52 Weeks of "Limited Time Magic." The idea is that "unexpected experiences with an extra sprinkle of Pixie Dust" will show up randomly at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, and then will disappear when the next experience pops up.

I like it :thumbsup2

It is a good idea but many will not go with the bracelets and that would create problems. I don't want a bracelet...

I think that you will be surprised, Disney is great getting people to convert. People are already picking their colors. AP's and room keys are already RFID enabled and the room key could be used with the mugs.

Every morning I go over to the Beach Club Marketplace with two refillable mugs and get coffee for my wife and myself. If having to use a bracelet sure would create problems.

I don't see why? You slip the band on, wave it to get your coffee, wave it to charge everything to your room, wave it to enter the parks, and you wave it to open your room door.

They are even taking a look at having you wave it to use Disney transportation. That should reduce the number of people parking at DTD and using the buses to get into the parks. It will also keep track on how full the buses are and order another one if your stop is full of people.

Disney executives expect a 10 - 20% increase is sales due to the band.

AAhhhhhh! Another discussion on the refillable mugs. Now that we are empty nesters we haven't needed the mugs. Now its a non-issue. We bring java from home, sit on the balcony enjoying a morning cup, in real china, before staring our day. That being said, if they come up with a refillable stein for our drinks around the world then sign me up! :drinking1

I think the issue here would be trying to fill mugs for others in your family, as many people do now. As it is now, one person can get all the mugs and go fill them while everyone else is showering and getting ready. If you need the RFID chip in the bracelet to fill the mugs you now need everyone's mugs AND bracelets to fill them. Just more to juggle and I'd be a nervous wreck I'd drop one of the bracelets.

Here's what I would like to see:

Now, don't flame me. I know all about Disney's policy regarding the mug being for LOS only. However, I also know that Disney is big on Reduce, REUSE, and Recycle. So, that being said, I would like to see something put in place where you could bring an outdated mug, (perhaps a fat bottomed one!) and pay for a drink plan of sorts. The fact that you paid for the plan could be stored on your wrist band or room key. I really don't want a mug from every trip I make to WDW. I go to Disney at least twice a year, sometimes as often as four times a year, and if I were to buy a mug for every trip, I wouldn't have room for anything else in my kitchen!

Nice thought, but then someone would bring the Big Bertha! I just donate afterwards.

That would get my vote! :thumbsup2

That sounds reasonable. :thumbsup2

When we purchased our first mugs at “Dixie Landings” (now known at “Riverside”) the sales pitch was that those mugs could be used forever, yes you were told that you could bring them back year after year. The cost of that mug was around $9 and the year was between 1996 and 2000. Does any one remember those days?
:thumbsup2

My guess it was right before Dixie Landings ceased to exist. So it was forever for DL, not POR.

We got our first mugs in 1997 at the Polynesian and were told they were good for that trip at that location only.

We were told the same thing when we purchased mugs at the wilderness lodge in either 2000 or 2001

CMs were always saying things like "you can bring that back forever". I heard it at POR last January. But there were/are signs at the mugs and at the refill stations that indicate differently.

They could do it like they do in the Disney waterparks where there is an option to purchase a new barcode so you can use your old mug. Makes good eco sense.

yep we have a set from the Contemporary. I suspect you could make the argument that they are still good as there is no wording on them about length of stray or anything like it.

But when I bought my mug they told me it was good forever? Was I lied to?

Maybe. Depends on when you bought your mug. General rule of thumb is that if you bought before 2000 or 1999 these may well be the ‘forever’ mugs. Otherwise, yeah, you were lied to. Look on the side of your mug for printing if you’re unsure.

Darg-nab-it, I was told I could bring them back and I’m gonna bring them back.. I didn’t see any sign when I bought mine that said I couldn’t! I spent thousands of dollars on this trip to Disney, do they really care if I bring the mug back a few times?

Ultimately.. it IS your vacation and you are free to do as you wish.

The policies as Disney has outlined them are above. You may be approached by a cast member if your mug is obviously very old or outdated. Or, in all likelihood, you might not be. Disney has definitely taken a very lazy approach to managing the policies relating to the mugs.

Whatever your refillable mug ‘world view’ , there’s no need to try and change people’s minds about this topic on this thread. That type of effort has proven over and over again to be a lot like trying to teach pigs to tango, nobody learns anything and everyone ends up covered in mud.

And as per the rules above – it will be considered debate and won’t be allowed in this thread.
