2013 Points Charts Are Up Now

So from my perusing of the chart, the big winner of the THV point increase was the Grand Villa. Adventure season decreased 2 points for the Sun-Thu time period and 3 points for the Fri-Sat time period. Choice season saw a one-point drop for the Fri-Sat period. The Dream season though saw a 4 point (!) drop in the Sun-Thur period AND the Fri-Sat period. The Magic season just had a 1 point drop in the Sun-Thur period. Premier remained the same.

I note that the 2bd was a mixed bag with the Adventure season dropping 1 point for both periods and the choice season going up by 1 point for the Sun-Thur period and 2 points for the Fri-Sat period. The Dream season however saw a 2 point drop for Sun-Thur and a 3 point drop for Fri-Sat. The Magic and Premier seasons are the same.

The 1bd and Studios really didn't change that much. The 1bd dropped one point for the Sun-Thur period in the Adventure season, went UP one point for the Sun-Thur and 2 points for the Fri-Sat in the Choice Season (reflecting the 2bd), the Dream, Magic, and Premier seasons remained the same. The Studio changed even less with only the Sun-Thur period in Adventure dropping a point, the Fri-Sat period in Choice going up one point, and the Sun-Thur period in Dream going down 1 point. All other periods remained the same.

So enough changed to have folks re-recalculate, but it doesn't look like the majority of uses changed that much.

Yes, Disney used Excel to make the point charts.
That's how they made the PDFs. It may or may not be the tool they used to actually compute the new values, exporting data from that tool into Excel.

(I wouldn't be surprised if it was done entirely in Excel, just pointing out that the PDF meta-data isn't enough to tell you for sure.)

Can someone post the URL for the PDF? Just curious if I do need a login to see it. Thanks!

If DVC reclassified 10 BLT Vacation Homes from Theme Park to Standard View, then I suspect that the Theme Park Villas will start on the 5th floor. Previously, the Theme Park Views started as low as the 3rd floor.

I'm a little surprised they didn't make it one floor higher. The sixth floor. For one simple reason. The sky bridge is on the 5th floor. Everyone crossing the bridge can see into the 5th floor rooms, particularly the MK view 5th floor room next to the bridge.

I have to admit, this will make us more willing to book Theme Park view knowing we won't be on the 3rd and 4th floor.
Now that I think about it, I'm even more willing to take a chance on the Standard view. May even get lucky and have a room below Theme Park view, but at Standard View points.

I'm just so happy that October didn't change! :yay:

I'm also glad to see the AKV value rooms stayed the same!

The 2013 change is one you might both cheer for or condemn. The BLT change obviously resulted from so many members condemning lower floor MK view. Thus that seems a positive, but it resulted in raising points for other rooms. In hindsight, DVD should be condemned not cheered. It should never have made those floors MK view with high point cost (i.e., it was the "suits" unfettered greed and stupidity operating together that made those MK view in the first place) and thus should have actually set up those rooms to be standard originally. Thus, instead of other rooms getting higher points now, they just should have had lower total points to begin with.

The THV change should also be condemned and not cheered. Certainly, other rooms benefit from lower cost. But the THVs were added after SSR was already done and became their own sales piece for SSR buyers and many who bought did so only because they could get THV, and now, a few of years later, surprise -- the points are increasing across the board for THV 16%. The increase does not result from a "change" in the demand for THV's as needed to justify making a change. They are just raising them because the demand from the get go has been higher than the "suits" expected.

Thanks! The links work if you are not logged in, but that only shows 2011 and 2012 point charts? Anyone have the links for 2013?

Opps, let me try that again.

I understand your point. However, I suspect DVD had already allotted 5,733,530 points to the BLT resort during the initial planning stage. In other words, the total points that had to be distributed at BLT came first, before it was determined how many Vacation Homes would be in each view category. If BLT had opened in 2009 with 10 more Standard View villas and 10 less Theme Park villas, we would be at the same point we are today with the 2013 charts.

The largest point increase at BLT is 11 points for a 7-night stay during Premier Season in a two-bedroom Standard View. The other increases in the other seasons for a 7-night stay are all 7 points or less. In fact, 33 of the 60 booking categories (season, accommodation, View category) did not change at all compared to the 2011/2012 charts.

The real advantage with BLT's reallocation is that there will be 10 more Standard View Vacation Homes available in the DVC inventory. There will be a greater chance for a Member to book a Standard View rather than having to settle for a Lake View or Theme Park View. This means that during Dream Season, a Member has a better chance of getting a two-bedroom for 317 points a week (2013 rate), rather than having to spend 354 points for a Lake View using the 2012 rates.

One thing I find surprising is that AKV, BLT, and SSR studios have larger point jumps from Adventure to Choice seasons than the other WDW properties.

I would have thought BCV and BWV would have similar point increases due to F&W during that time frame.

Well heck. We done the THV several times now, and find them to be one of our favorite places to stay. But our typical 7 nights in the magic season will now be 51 more points. Wow! That hurt.

I agree. Depending on how many points you own, when you travel, and what accommodations you use, you can either love or hate this. I'm glad to see that none of the other resorts saw any changes. I'm buying into BLT and it doesn't appear to change anything for us for our travel times. We may have to get a studio once in a while for Choice season, and that will cost 3 more points for the 5 night stay, but the chance of having that SV available also increases so it's a benefit, not a downside. 76 points is the 2012 amount 79 is the 2013 for those dates for me. The 79 points is still less than the 87 for the LV if no SV are available, so I see it a plus, not a minus.

I may be in the minority, but I'm a little dissappointed that they didn't adjust some of the dates within the seasons.

In an effort to keep things together, we invite you to continue your discussion about the 2013 point changes in this thread

Thank you!
