Oh that's good to hear! I am so engrossed in the story. It's certainly a "peculiar" one, lol.

I've heard several reviews on the ending, so I'm trying to steel myself for a big disappointment, but yet on the other hand, holding out hope that the author knows how to end it well. :thumbsup2

I will look forward to your review on that - I've been debating back and forth with myself on whether to put it on my to-read list. :teeth:

Just finished The Woman Upstairs by Claire Messaud. Not sure what number I'm on.

I like this book well enough. I'd give it 3 stars. Not fantastic but it held by interest.

The story is about a single 40-ish woman who is an elementary school teacher. She's attractive enough and interesting and single. She is a "good girl", does what's expected, and is very dependable.

She has a new student arrive one year who is foreign. She befriends the student and the family and, basically, "falls in love" with the family. She because ebullent, exhilerated, and happier than she's been. But the family's stay is temporary and there comes a point when the narrator realizes that she has been used and isn't as important to them. The ending is a tad bit surprising. It's really just an interesting play on relationships.

I'll be curious too. I just added myself to the ebook wait list for this at the library. I like weird books!

I saw this on the library list too and couldn't decide about it either. Thanks for the review, I'll keep it in mind when my hold list allows me to add more books!

If anyone hasn't read The Light Between Oceans and wants to, Amazon has the Kindle edition on sale for $4.99. My library doesn't carry the e-book so I took advantage of the sale.

Also, could I bump my goal up to 52? I will hit 30 too soon. 52 will be a struggle but I want to see if I can do it. DD13 has told her dad that she will read 10 books this summer if he agrees to read one. She does not love to read like my other two so he'd better take her challenge!

Sure, I'll change it for you. Just means more books for you to enjoy!! :thumbsup2

Gosh, I hope too that he takes her up on that challenge! That's awesome!!

Thank you so much for this info! I've been wanting to buy it, too as my e-library does not carry it either. Much appreciated! :flower3:

That's a great challenge! I am trying to get my husband to read a book this summer, too. I mean one that doesn't have to do with his Master's! I'm tempting him with the new Dan Brown book. He's a huge fan. I think it would do my one non-reading daughter a world of good to see her daddy just sitting and reading!

Book 11/40 Monkey Mind: A Memoir of Anxiety by Daniel Smith

I hated this book. SO boring!

Now I will return to the Farseer Trilogy :goodvibes

The Best of Me
Nicholas Sparks

" "Everyone wanted to believe that endless love was possible. She'd believed in it once, too, back when she was eighteen."

In the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in the small town of Oriental, North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths.

Now, twenty-five years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back to Oriental for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they imagined . . . and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever changed their lives. As Amanda and Dawson carry out the instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realize that everything they thought they knew -- about Tuck, about themselves, and about the dreams they held dear -- was not as it seemed. Forced to confront painful memories, the two former lovers will discover undeniable truths about the choices they have made. And in the course of a single, searing weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead: Can love truly rewrite the past? "

When I first started it I was bored. I honestly didn't even want to finish it, but I have been in a slump and FORCED myself to read on. I am SO glad that I did.

I liked the characters well enough, even if they are very typical of Nicholas Sparks.

It took me a good 40% of the book before I really got into it. It was heartbreaking though. It's been a while since a book has made me cry, but this one did.

I would recommend this one if you're into N.S. books. I thought it was a little different than his usual. (Others disagree)

***I am starting Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children tonight and I am pretty excited for it. I don't usually read books like this, but I am very intrigued!:thumbsup2

Book #41 Anne of Avonlea by LM Montgomery

Review: What can I say about this book that hasn't been said before? It is a great book and I think it is one of the funniest books because Anne does seem to get in a lot more accidents in this one and Davy Keith has some pretty good lines. I love the romance between Miss Lavender and Stephen Irving as it has a old fashioned yet fairy tale feeling to it. Anne is a great character and this is one of my favorite series as you see the true transition of a young girl who is imaginative, funny and sweet to a woman who is smart, clever but never loses that sense of wonder.

Goal - 100 books

Book #37 - "A Catered Murder" by Isis Crawford

Libby and Bernie are 2 sisters running a catering business together. When an old high school classmate is murdered at a reunion that they catered, and an old friend accused of the crime, they decide to "help" the police by finding the real murderer.

I enjoyed this book, but didn't find it as likable as those written by Joanna Fluke. There was something off about the characters, but I can't quite put my finger on what it was. However, I did enjoy the story, so I will probably pick up more in this series eventually.

Next up: "Inferno" by Dan Brown.

26/50 - 1st to Die (Women's Murder Club) by James Patterson

I've read nearly all of Patterson's Alex Cross books, and since there were so many books in this series, I thought I would give the first one a try. Huge mistake! :crazy2: This was nothing like the Alex Cross series - not as well-written, lots of holes in the plot, terrible dialogue. It was just awful. :( I'm not even tempted to see if the second book in the series is any better - I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. :p

1/5 stars

27/50 - Long Time Coming by Edie Claire

This was a Kindle freebie, and it was surprisingly good! Most of the freebies I've read are good up until the end and then fall apart, but this one held the plot all the way through. This story was a romance with a touch of supernatural. I enjoyed it.

3/5 stars (3 and not 4 because the ending was so predictable)

Next Up: A Perfect Husband by Aphrodite Jones

Who is the Aphrodite Jones one about?

Who is the Aphrodite Jones one about?

Michael Peterson.

I've read Cruel Sacrifice, All She Wanted, and Della's Web by her in the past, so I'm hoping even though the reviews aren't stellar this will turn out to be good.

ETA: What do you think of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children? I finally added it to my library wish list. :teeth:

I read about 20% last night alone. I like it a lot!

I'm about 100 pages into Inferno by Dan Brown. It's a fun read so far even though I find his writing style annoying and amateurish at times. I do enjoy the background information he provides in his books and always seem to wind up googling for more information on the people, artwork, architechture, etc. he references. At any rate, I'm enjoying this one much more than his last one, The Lost Symbol.
