I want to know your other 2 because I like all four of these. I might find a new one with your other two!

I haven't posted in ages but I am plugging away towards my goal of 125. I have completed 122 so far...I should make it. Glad to read the thread will continue with a 2014 challenge. This really helped me to continue reading and especially with book ideas/suggestions. So thanks to all those who were so much better at updating regularly than I was. :thumbsup2

#34/35 Black Jasmine by Toby Neal

This is the third book in a series that takes place on the Hawaiian Islands. Lei is a police woman with demons in her past dealing with crimes and personal relationships. I liked the first, second was okay, and this one was just meh. Not sure I will bother reading any more in the series.

Goal 72

#85 The Murderer's Daughters by Randy Susan Meyers

Story of two sisters, Lulu (10) & Merry (5) when their drunken father murders their mother in front of them. Lulu escapes harm by running to a neighbor for help. The father tries to stab the younger sister & then tries to kill him self but doesn't succeed.
The story follows the two sisters as they live in an orphanage & foster home as they have no relatives able or willing to take them in. Really a tragic haunting story. Very good book.

Finished #56 (goal was 52) last night.

Fever by Mary Beth Keane (Author)

I saw it mentioned here and decided to give it a go. I thought it was really good and thought it was a good read. I recommend it highly.

Ok, so here is my favorite books of the past year. Was trying to pick one but these two are sequels & both are great:

Her Mother's Hope
&
Her Daughter's Dream

Both by Francine Rivers who has long been one of my favorite authors.
The story starts out in early 1900's and progresses into this century following the lives of the women of one family. Starting with 12 year old Marta on down to her great granddaughter May Flower Dawn.
Every mother & daughter should read these two books.

Meant to add my favorite non fiction book of the year was:

Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall & Denver Moore

The Word says God don't give us credit for lovin the folks we want to love anyway. No, He gives us credit for loving the unlovable.
Denver Moore, Same Kind of Different as Me

Goal: 100 books this year.

#90 down and done.

Victoria Revealed: 500 Facts About the Queen and Her World compiled for Kensington Palace, for the Historical Royal Palaces series.

This is the companion book to the Victoria Revealed exhibit at Kensington Palace. I'm a rabid Anglophile, and the Victorian era is my absolute favorite. The book is crammed full of facts, some of which I already knew but many new ones, with accompanying paintings, lithographs, posters, and photos. DD#2 just returned from a vacation in London, and this was my souvenir. I'd love to see the exhibit myself, but this is the next best thing. The text is informative without being dull and the illustrations are beautiful - very detailed. Nor sure if the book is available outside of the Kensington Palace gift shop, but if the subject interests you at all, it would be well worth researching.

Queen Colleen (don't think anyone will ever want to write a book about this Queen's world!)

#136 Murder and Mendelssohn by Kerry Greenwood.

This series is by an Australian author and are murder mysteries set in Melbourne in the 1920's. Phryne Fisher is the protagonist and she is wonderful.

#137 The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty. Fabulous book. A really well written easy to read page turner.

From the author of the critically acclaimed What Alice Forgot comes a breakout new novel about the secrets husbands and wives keep from each other.

From Goodreads.

My Darling Cecilia
If you're reading this, then I've died . . .

Imagine your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret - something so terrible it would destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others too. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive . . .

Cecilia Fitzpatrick achieved it all - she's an incredibly successful business woman, a pillar of her small community and a devoted wife and mother. Her life is as orderly and spotless as her home. But that letter is about to change everything, and not just for her: Rachel and Tess barely know Cecilia - or each other - but they too are about to feel the earth-shattering repercussions of her husband's devastating secret.(

Goal: 100 books this year.

#91, 92, and 93 down and done.

Lark Rise, Over to Candleford, and Candleford Green, all by Flora Thompson.

The fictional biography of Laura, growing up in the English hamlet of Lark Rise, her family life in Candleford, and her early adult life in Candleford Green. A typical life of a family in that era, the early 1900's; nothing exciting, but interesting to see how things changed over the years. It took me a long time to read these three books; I kept leaving them for something more exciting and then coming back to them. I'm glad I kept at it.

Queen Colleen

Piglet's Pal-I don't know if you can get it there but there is a BBC series of Lark Rise to Candleford. It differs from the books but it is a really lovely, well acted series with some wonderful characters in it.
