Having had 10 not quite teenage girls in my house for a sleepover...I can only imagine the exhilaration of escaping from 14 teenage boys :lol:

I like Starring Rolls myself...but DH hates it, due to a little incident on our first trip with kids, where it was really crowded, and the tray ended up turning over and dumping everything to the floor...he let out a very loud non-Disney-like expletive and the whole place went silent with people staring at him...so he's very grumpy whenever I suggest it.

It's not a lunch place...but our new favorite snack place in DHS is The Writer's Stop (carrot cake cookies! yum!!!)

Anyway,
I'm bringing my macbook on this trip (which I've never done before), and I'm wondering what people's thoughts are on safety. In all likelihood, will it be fine in the room? I'm assuming it won't fit in the safe. I would like to think that putting it in one of the drawers under my clothes would be fine. Any other thoughts on this? Any YC frequent fliers with ideas on where to safely store something like a laptop?

You could always lock it in a suitcase. They have those little luggage locks that we used to use in the old days, before 9/11 changed the rules about luggage at airports.

But we've always felt perfectly safe just stuffing the laptop out of site in a drawer, closet or suitcase.

Someone posted a little while ago that you can leave valuables with Bell Services and they will put it into lockup if you are not comfortable leaving them in the room (although I do think putting it in a drawer or locked suitcase would be fine).

Bob is too cute!! Do you have a favorite place to go on St. Thomas for shopping? We are going to St. John for 10 days next year and plan for one day maybe on St. Thomas for shopping and eating if it is worth it. Last year we just drove through on the way to the ferry to St. John.

I love, love that photo of you! That is the best yet. I bet that felt so good to have some time to yourself for a small bit of time.


We love Columbia House in MK as well for CS. The meals are huge though. We make the mistake each time and forget to split a meal. Alot gets thrown out.

Epcot we loved the bakery in France. Nate and I got cheese and baguette for lunch with desserts. Coolest lunch ever. I believe we had a Napoleon, Duo Au Chocolate ( chocolate mousse cake), and I think a third one. We were giggling the whole way through it all.

AK we always have a hard time finding something that we truly like. No favorite there.

HS Dockside Diner is pretty good. We liked the Hot Dog in a pretzel roll and the Chicken Caesar sandwich. We would get both and then share. Plus their shakes are pretty good. Last time we were there though they were not open.

Bell services will hold your order (including refrigeration if applicable) until you call for it to be delivered. You need to stay in the room for them to deliver to the room, and allow several minutes for them to bring it up (if they are busy it could take 20 minutes or longer, I think).

That won't be an issue- hopefully the room is ready when we get there and then we can get changed and settled while we wait! yeah!

I could never imagine driving from Rochester to Orlando. Hat's off to you and hope you have an awesome trip!

I live in Syracuse, about 50 miles away from Rochester. And yes, i hate the drive to Orlando. 2 hrs vs. 25.... I'll take the flight anyday!

Agree with you about the Brown Derby. That and Artist Point are our favorite restaurants at WDW. However, the fried chicken at 50s Prime Time is another thing I'll eat at HS. Yum!!!!!

I grew up north of Binghamton and know the geography of central and western NY quite well. I will fly until the day I leave this Earth! There's not enough money in the universe anyone could pay me to drive to Florida! I can barely make it 6 hours to DC before I lose it.

So my daughter starts her school vacation Friday. it will be 1 whole year since we have been to disney I keep saying this time last year I was tripping over suitcases, running around getting last minute things.

134 more Days !!! UGH

I know what you mean about the lazy beach vacation versus a trip to WDW!
We find that if we hit rope drop and leave by lunch time for a break, this type of vacation, while still an active one, is manageable. I'd recommend walking for 30 mins to an hour 4 times a week to get your self in shape for a WDW vacation. Having your tootsies in fine form before you go really helps to make the whole thing more manageable IMHO.

Usually I find that unless I leave super early I am always busy with bag check and then the welcome show starts. I have not yet been able to get to the MK any where near early enough to be in the running for family of the day. I think you have to be there over an hour early. At least that's the scuttle butt I've heard from people reporting that they were picked.

Now since it's me, if I did get there that early, I can imagine I would keep myself entertained by squirting security with my Super Soaker water pistol,[/B] but that's just me... All that walking I did before the trip will really pay off when I have to start RUNNING to avoid being captured. Fortunately I am still on the lam as security has not yet caught up with me.... but like my husband says, "It's only a matter of time".

I think planning to be in the parks early and the pool in the afternoon is keeping DH somewhat sane about this trip.

Dh and I are pretty regular runners so I think we will be okay...my plan to whip the girls into shape (although, we keep them pretty active too) is to walk home from school if it ever warms up and stops raining. We live about 1 mile from the school so of course that means that I get to walk to and from school. We are going this weekend to get new walking shoes.

It will be interesting to see how early we make it to the park. I have good intentions to get up early, but when the alarm goes off, I seriously reconsider. I think the potential heat and crowds will motivate me. Not to mention the sheer excitement from the girls.

I don't think I'll be carrying a squirt gun with me. I'm already trying to figure out how to carry the least amount of stuff possible. We did a test run weekend trip to some museums and between the hand wipes, snacks, epi-pens (for DD), first aid kit and what ever else managed to make it in my bag that weekend, it was pretty heavy.

You could do a garden grocer order and have yuengling delivered to your room along with some snacks and other items

Sorry - not sure how to do multiple quotes in one post yet.

I looked into Garden Grocer and I'm not sure that we will make it through a 12 pack. We are only there 6 nights and we are on the dining plan so I have a feeling that we are going to be stuffed as it is and I don't drink that much and we are planning on having some boat drinks at SAB.

How does the cost of the Gardern Grocer compare to using a personal shopping service? DD has a peanut allergy so I'm planning on packing most of our snacks but I think that we are going to need some juice boxes, water, cereal and yogurt once we get down there.

Have only eaten at Brown Derby (and that was back in the 90's!!), but this year we are planning on trying Yachtsman since I am traveling with 2 carnivores.

I live in Binghamton! I would never consider driving to WDW because I can't stand being in the car for more than 3 hours! Our flight for May 26 was only $280 R/T.
