2012? No Problem...but when?

TV!!!!!! That is cool that your tv will run the internet via the wireless. I knew you would fill up those shelves quickly. Glad you got a shirt done. One less for the list.

Like your plan for your AK day. :) AK at night sounds cool, especially since it will be dark. Love thr Lion King show but I can't stand Primeval whirl. Curtis wants to try it and I think he is finally tall enogh. Since your kids enjoy it maybe I will let him try it out. We always hit Kali RR last since we get soaked and can head back to the room. :)

That is nice that you are watching the grandprincess for the night. I am sure Disney doesn't care about the five people since you are paying for two rooms. ;)

Actually the tv we have is internet capable so it has always had internet... in fact my husband likes to facebook on it when the kids are in bed..(.he refuses to admit his bad eyesight!) and the kids love it for Netflix.
But now the satellite is internet capable as well. It means we can now get the PPV, blockbuster, and some free stuff we were never able to get, as well as I can now watch tv from my DVR on both my laptop and iPhone. Which might come in handy when I am waiting for them to get off rides that I can't ride!

I doubt we will actually hit Kali this trip. We always manage to get to Disney when the temps drop to sub freezing. So we aren't even going to plan it this trip...that way we can be pleasantly surprised it the weather cooperates!

I have never seen AK in the dark...so I am pretty excited to do this!

Sorry I fell behind Nini... Bad PTR follower... I promise I will be much better when I get my new digs set up in this section. ;)

I love that you have internet on your TV - how cool is that? And your studio is almost done - EVEN BETTER!

I love AK too - you know that - but AK in the DARK is the bestest of the best!!! Really!!!! It's so rare that you get to see it that way - I just love it!

You all will have a blast in the almost empty park for the latter half of the day - I hope you are able to get as many rides in on everything that you want to!

This sounds like a fantastic first day!

D~

I don't think I will go as far as to say the studio is done! I have two shelves that are full. That is a long way from being done! But I am at a stopping point. I can't fold any more fabric without a home for it. I can't make a home for it until after the first (so I can pull the money from October's budget) and I will get at least one more Expedit.

I also need to move some furniture around. Funny, I had decided to move the stuff I am going to get rid of outside...I mean we haven't had rain in over 3 weeks...but tomorrow is an 80% chance of rain. If the furniture gets wet it will only be good for the dump. (not sure how the HOA would like me having furniture in the side yard either! LOL)

Before I can do anything I have to figure out what to do with the excess so I can move things around.

I can't wait to see AK in the dark!! Of course our first day at Disney never goes according to plan. We are always so tired from driving all night we get practically nothing done. I have a feeling I will end up sitting at AK waiting for the dark by myself while husband takes the kids back to the room! I am determined to get those pictures!

I have been working on the second day plans. This is actually the first long trip I have planned times...usually we just have a list of what we want to do each day and see how it goes. With the uncertainty of the FP+ and the GAC/DAS I am going prepared with a more detailed plan. Just in case.

I did make a very detailed plan for our one day trip in June...and it actually did pretty good...right up to the point where my husband decided his way was better and headed straight into the after Wishes crowd!

Our second day is proving to be a bit more complicated. There are too many variables in it. Sunday mornings, we always go to church services before we hit the parks. I know what time service end, and what time we should be back at the room...but... getting 7 people changed and ready to hit the parks is going to be difficult at best. They are all so used to eating right after church services I am going to have a bit of a problem getting them to hurry to the park ride one or two things before lunch...

I think I will revert to being a drill sergeant for this day!

Our first park day is on Sunday, and I had a really difficult time planning it. Not only do we arrive at the park late due to church services, we also have two ADRs plus a BBB ressie. I'm actually hoping for FP+ because it would allow me to let DD try out the roller coasters on our first day without the longer waits. I'm doing "these are the things we want to get done" lists, but I'm also planning out possible FP+ rides and times. It is a bit of a challenge.

LOL I can totally see you sitting on a park bench in AK just waiting for the darkness to form all around you!

I sure hope your Sunday plans go off with out a hitch - but what fun is that?

hahaha... I could never see you as a Drill Sergeant.

D~

Already stalled on Day 2 of the planning???? :rotfl: Any plan will at least help you figure out what you want to do so that will be helpful even if you end up switching plans. Maybe they will be hungry after church so they will be eager to get to the parks to eat and then you can trick them into getting on a ride or at least getting a FP and you can eat while the clock ticks away.

I am wanting to include some Agent P and some of the Storytelling into the mix for our numerous Epcot days. My DIL hates walking around the lagoon, so there will only be one chance to get it done. There is no way to get all of the Agent P and Storytellers in one day.

I also want to try and eat at some different places...we ALWAYS eat at Sunshine Seasons...while it is not bad, I would like to do something new...and with our dinner that night being at Coral Reef, it makes more sense to head towards Test Track when we get into the park...but finding a good CS meal is not going to work so great.

Oh well....

HA HA! I a m SOOO a Drill Sgt! When my husband went to Drill Sgt school back in the late 70's (wow...was it really that long ago?) I told everyone they were really learning from me! Being an army family, we have always had the drill sgt mentality when it comes to doing things. It always made things go so much smoother! LOL..

And after our fiasco in June with the crowds when leaving MK, my husband knows I will never again leave MK when everyone is leaving...I will find a place to sit and he can take the kids back to the room...I'll ride the bus back after the crowds thin and catch up with them later...

At least we are doing Epcot on this Sunday...and not MK. (however, MK is on the agenda for the next Sunday...so we have to worry about the fact that the park closes early and we are not doing the party...)

We normally just have a generalized plan, but since we tour with the aid of a GAC, I need to be prepared for the possibility that they might change it drastically (although I seriously doubt it) But I like to be prepared...
Then the o=whole FP+ thing...I have less than 10 days before we 'might' be eligible for that, and I am expected to make them for everyone... so if it is wrong it will be my fault! LOL!

=======

On the Disney planning front, I am behind 6 shirts already! I did not make a single shirt on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday...and it looks like I am not going to get down there today either...oh well...

Although I love seeing the days dwindle down, I hate thinking of all the stuff I am going to have to rush around to get done,,,,why do I procrastinate so badly?

Nini

I think I am loosing my mind....I just got an email from E-bags with a 20% off , free shipping, and 20% more rewards points...so of course I had to do it! Another set of packing cubes! Now if I can get another couple of coupon codes I will end up with one set for each of us...

I am addicted and I know it!

Nini

You will have the most organized suitcases. :)

I am totally procrastinating too. I need an idea for one of our MK days. I have navy blue shirts for everyone and I did big mickey heads by "hand" on felt that I was going to attach to the shirts but now I don't like the way it looks. Oh well. At least I still have the shirts but nothing is coming to me.

The storytellers will only be around at Christmas time but agent P will be there all the time. Plus I think the adventures are very similar to the Kim Possible setup. I hope you can fit it all in. CS in future world is lacking that is for sure.

I can't believe how quickly your trip is coming Liz!

And Nini... YOu need to take a picture of your packed vehicle when you get all these storage thingies in there. LOL

We never did the Kim Possible ones either...so even if they were the exact same they would still be new to the Kids! LOL!

I tell you I am so far behind in the packing! I normally have the luggage out and packing list in each one, shopping lists done, and some things already bought. (of course I am still on par for the shirts...I always end up doing them at the last minute!) The goal is to have organized luggage...but who knows... I just like buying the packing cubes!

I can't believe how quickly your trip is coming Liz!

D~

Actually, the packing cubes are for the luggage and not the car...of course, the car is usually very well organized...being in the military for 20 years made him a very good packer! He can get more stuff in the back of the van than anyone could ever guess...and he still keeps everything below the window level! And nothing will shift or move. Every single inch of space is used. I love watching him pack...it is almost like art.

Now, if I could just teach him to pack his own suitcase before we leave....

Tomorrow is Mr D's birthday. As we were leaving for diner tonight, he informed me he wanted me to make him a t shirt for his birthday to wear to school tomorrow! Yikes...I have had a head ache all day today, I have no extra shirt to use, and no way do I have time to make it. (the headache is why we were going out to dinner. Kitchen needs a good cleaning before I would feel like cooking and that is not happening tonight!)

Now, as he was getting things ready for school tomorrow, he got all sad eyed and pouty and said he didn't have a shirt to wear tomorrow so he would just have to wear a regular old shirt...probably one that had holes in it... Seriously!?!?

Dad offered to go buy him a shirt at WalMart, but Mr D said no, it had to be a mommy shirt! I love my boy and am glad that he wants a mommy made shirt for tomorrow, but it simply is not happening. I did promise to make one for Saturday's family party though...

Absolutely nothing new on the trip front...a three hour nap will do that to me. I am still so tired I feel like I have run a marathon or two. (migraines do that to me) So I am ready for bed....but a friend's niece is supposed to be on The Voice tonight and I feel the need to watch it. Just in case I might fall asleep I have it on the DVR. And of course we have an IEP (ish) meeting tomorrow morning. Ish because we are only going to discuss some issues I have with the vague testing they feel the need to do. The three weeks of testing I had done in the spring is obviously not enough for the school...forget the fact that the testing was done by the doctor that TEACHES how to give the testing at UGA, and was on the committee when the state redid their battery of testing a couple years ago. They want vague cognitive processing testing. When 4 of the 7 tests were specifically for that...

Anyway.... I need another nap!

Nini

Our meeting yesterday went very well.

Unfortunately, when dealing with bureaucracy, you have to play by their rules no matter how 'stupid' they are!

I went completely prepared to follow their rules. I also bought a new outfit to wear. They have never seen me in anything other than old blue jeans and Disney t shirts. I dressed up , complete with heels...but no make up...becuase I gave up wearing make up when I quit work 8 years ago.

I made my case for what the meeting was about without accusations.
-We had paid for testing at great expense that included 7 standardized tests recognized by the state of Georgia as THE standard tests to determine eligibility for special education.
-of those 7 tests, 4 specifically pertained to cognitive processing.
-at the meeting I was not a part of, THEY had determined he needed more testing in cognitive processing.
-NONE of the attendees of that meeting could tell me what areas of cognitive processing we had missed, or what specifically they needed to determine eligibility for special education. Or even what test they were planning on administering.

I did NOT include
-the federal guidelines for being eligible for Special education under TBI did not require any testing of cognitive processing, only a diagnosis of TBI
-the comprehensive testing we had done was done by the professor that teaches THEM how to give the tests
-the testing was done by one of the members of the committee that decided which tests the state of GA would require and support for all Special Education in the state
-that the person giving the test was the CO-Author of one of the tests!

The first half of the meeting I was getting vague responses as to what additional test they needed. (all of them were at the meeting that determined they NEEDED the extra testing). So I went into detail how much testing he had already gone through for these tests and the fact that the frustration level as a result of these tests was pretty high for Mr D and I would prefer to not have him go through it needlessly.

Since these people did not know Mr D prior to the accident, we felt it important to know him prior to the accident. That was my husband's job. While we were waiting 30 minutes for the school's psychologist to arrive, my husband went through all the things that were different in Mr D from before the accident.

By the time Dr Leefer arrived, she sat down, took a look at the report and asked why we were here. This report was twice as thorough as they require, Included more information than they would ever need and by law all they needed was a diagnosis of TBI.

She then asked me if this was the same Dr Dyer that was at the college and I said yes, and she turned to the committee and said she was a very busy person and was required to attend all IEP meetings in the county because they were short staffed. She said they could have saved us all a lot of time if they bothered to read the requirements.

She looked at me and said that they were in violation of my rights as a parent of a TBI child and she hoped that I would understand that it was not her doing...and left!

Yes, I feel vindicated! If I had been at the previous meeting I would have seen that the vague testing was illegal and would have gotten it taken out...in fact, they later semi admitted that it was a new computer system and it seemed to automatically include that in the recommended testing.

Now I have a different form to take to the pediatrician to have completed so that we can officially have a TBI designation!

They never apologized, or truly admitted they had made a mistake.

I came home and had another migraine!!!

Mr D has his 12th birthday yesterday. He got a new 3DS XL and a new Epic Mickey game for it...he is in heaven! Family party is Saturday!

Some late breaking news on the trip front!

This morning I have the option to customize my magic bands! And I am NOT staying at a test resort! Of course when I checked at 5 I could not...after 6 I could...

I do online check in in 5 days.

My son's party has not paid in full, and do not have the online check in info showing and could also customize their magic bands!
How funny it is that this tiny bit of news excites me so much! LOL!

Running numbers and planning our next trip.

I had everything priced out prior to the last price increase of tickets. It was going to cost us about $200 per person to trade up to an AP, giving us discounts on rooms for next year and if the timing was right, no need to get tickets for the next trip.

I now realize that the difference in trading up is actually more like $280...times 4 is a large increase!

It is no longer a cheaper option...

So I am looking at other things. I have changed the date to be when the kids are out during Spring break. Looked at renting points, and a multitude of other options.

Today I looked, just for fun, at the price of Shades of Green. If we are going during Christmas time, staying here would miss a lot of the fun of seeing all the decorations...but since we are looking at April...there really isn't a lot of things we would be missing...decoration wise.

The difference in price is almost a thousand dollars! POR with trundle bed (we will be taking the grand princess) is $1707...while SOG is $861!

Unless we get a great bounce back (like free dining) I think we might be staying at SOG again....

Nini

I will celebrate the victory of you being vindicated with Mr. D's school even if the people at be will not acknowledge their mistake. :thumbsup2

Sweet, I know they recently opened more resorts for the testing. They also seem to be adding attractions and events (like parades and shows, etc) as time goes by so keep checking. Does make it hard for us obsessive planners. :)

That is a major savings with SOG! I hope you get a sweet bounce back and at least you will know when you are there so you won't have to wait around hoping for a discount or pin.

That price increase messed me up too. I really wish I would have bought an AP when I went in January with my brother but I was hoping for free dining for our Oct trip. It makes me mad I didn't get it then. Oh well.

LOL... I have NO doubt that I am an obsessive planner! I also know that my plans that I have made so far are being dumped... They have released some tentative info on the replacement for the GAC, the DAS. While I think it is ia step in the right direction, I know it is still not perfect, and not sure how it is going to work for us.

So I did our FP+ on Tuesday, and have reworked them a couple of times since. We have spoken with Mr D about how we are going to be sure and ride 'these' things and the rest we will just have to fit in where we can. We are preparing him for a different style of trip than we have ever attempted before. My goal is to have him understand that he still gets to have fun, just differently than before. The fact that this all happens right after his 12th birthday is a blessing in disguise. He thinks the new changes are because he is older.

So this trip is going to be a celebration of him turning 12...He understands the concept that turning 12 (evidently it is a more magical number than I realized) means he is not a baby and has to do grown up things now. I do still expect to see some melt downs, but we are hoping for a smooth trip.

I finally was able to get to the BOG FP+ for lunch...but truthfully could not figure out how to make it work...except for the day we already have dinner at BOG. I don't think I can convince the guys to eat there twice in one day.

The FP+ system is pretty nifty...but I still see a lot of problems with it. It is supposed to be going live by the time we arrive. Some reports are saying Nov 1 and others are saying Dec 1...either way it gets us. (Disney has not released a official announcement either way, but I do believe it is an accurate assumption)

My main two concerns are that it does not allow for you to grab two fast passes for the same attraction! And you can only grab 3 per park...while AK and Epcot this is fine, at DHS and especially MK...not so much!

It also seems that some things are being held back...each day I check there are different attractions listed. Yesterday was the first time the parades and fireworks was showing up, but I could not figure out what to drop in favor of them. And we never could make F! work on either DHS day!

So I am back to square one on the daily plans.

This has been a very busy week personally, so I have put most of the planning on the back burner. I am hoping to be able to put the planning back on top this weekend. Today's agenda calls for my monthly grocery shopping experience (about 5 days late) and hopefully time to get back and work on some shirts! I am only able to get 2 shirts a week done!!!!:eek::eek: At this rate with only about 8 weeks left I will be making them while everyone else is AT the parks!

We had a close friend pass away this past week very very suddenly. His family and ours are intertwined on so many levels it is hard to count all the ways. Since he is a few years younger than my husband and I it has been a little harder for us to admit our mortality.

The government shutdown has caused more than a few anxious moments in our household as well. (I am sure many of you as well). While our Disney trip is a GO regardless of what happens on that front, it may very well cut into our plans for our next trip.

...and finally, because of the government shutdown...husband has been talking seriously again about retiring. He turned 59 in July and has decided his job is best suited to younger people. While there will be some tightening of the belts, we will be fine for several more years...but we do know that our retirement income will drop to practically zero at some point in the near future (maybe around 10 years after retirement) The only argument for not retiring would be it gives us a little more time to sock things away for retirement...but we both know we won't be doing that...

Wow...I guess I need to come up with something positive and uplifting to end this post...it has really taken a nose dive here at the end!

How about this...Miss Mia (and her mommy) came to visit and 'sew' yesterday. I sewed, and Miss Mia complained that she wanted a nap in her OWN bed and made Mommy hold her. So not too much sewing on Mommy's part. The great news (for me) is that Mommy's old job wants her back in the worst way possible! While she refuses to go back, she did agree to a few hours a month to do the books. The person that took over one of her many hobs has gotten the bank recons so messed up (in just 5 months) that even the accountant can not decide what is going on! So she will spend a few hours at the beginning of each month to make sure they are all done right and get paid pretty good money for it...the BEST part? Miss Mia and I get to spend time together!

There...I think I successfully turned this post around!

Nini

So...tomorrow is the 180 day mark for our possible April trip! I have now figured our parks per day and have a tentative ADR list. We are still in the thinking stage...but I will probably bite the bullet and make the reservation tonight...provided they have rooms available in POR on the Disney Visa promotion for our dates.

The fact that all three kids (in three different schools and two different school districts) all will be out of school the same week in April makes it hard to not do it! Things that would make it not so attractive are 1- a free dining offer as a bounce back when we get there in December, because December si STILL my favorite time to visit! and 2- there is the possibility of a trip in February to someplace different...crossing my fingers on that one, but not holding my breath!

If I go with the April trip tonight, it means I don't get to go back to Ikea this month to get new shelves...boo..but it means I get to make my ADRs tomorrow morning...YEAH!

I factored in the additional cost of parking, the additional cost of NOT having the dining plan, and with the current promotion, we would only save 200 staying at SOG over POR. When you factor in the hassle of trying to keep up with the budget of food (I went over today on my food budget, I have to remember to stay under it tomorrow...times all 5 people!) it just wasn't worth it!

Now I have to wait for all the kids to get up to get a handle on what they want to do for ADRs and finish up my plan...

Yes, I SHOULD be working on shirts, but since the Grand Princess is spending the night (unannounced and unexpected, but ALWAYS welcomed!) I can't go down until after she wakes up...she gets very upset if she can't see me when she wakes up!

Have a great weekend!

First of all... YAY on an april trip... WISH is was a differrent month... :whistle

Secondly... I totally agree about SOG - even though it's a beautiful resort.. The cost savings is minimal - and even at $500, I still have a hard time because not only do I have to worry about the meal budget constantly, but since we don't bring a car - I have to worry about sticking to their minimal bus schedule/walking the long walk from the Poly - to me, it's just not worth it. So, I totally understand... Now, if with this major remodel they are doing - they acutally got themselves a decent sit down restaurant (Hello... bring back Evergreens already) - it might be a worthy condender?

Good luck getting into your studio today... bummer about the shelves - I've had the same ongoing issue... Disney? Or shelves for my sewing room? Guess what wins every time? LOL

D~

And grrrr... I missed your previous post...

It sounds like FP+ is a bit of a mess still... I agree that the limit of 3 per day is too few... On average - we probably use 3 in a day, but that's because we are WASTING time running around to get them in the first place, if we could just make the reservations ahead of time and plan our touring around that, we could probably do 5 in one day? I wish Disney would at least offer the option of doing 3 in one day + 2 more or so, the old fashioned way> but it doesn't sound like they are keeping that option. Sad.

I know how you feel about the shutdown... We have been anxious as well. I haven't talked about it in my TR at all, but even though Josh's job is secure - the people who PAY him (DFAS) are 60% furloughed, which means - more than likely - he is working with no pay. This is not a good thing for us - I won't go into it any more than that - but let's just say, I fear some very tense moments ahead in our house if our government doesn't get their sh!t straight and quickly. :(

I am so sorry for your loss Nini - I know I said it on FB... but please know you have been in my thoughts & prayers this week. (((Hugs)))

Have fun playing with Mia! She is adorable!

Well...I think shelves have been put on the back burner for me until after Christmas. Husband announced that since all of Disney is paid for...or as he put it "all we have to do is load the car and go" I guess I am now paying for a few things that he had originally agreed to pay for!

Now with the April trip a real possibility, I have only 6 months to pay for it...wowsers!

Let me know when in april if you go. We are going then too :)

Yup...looks like we are missing each other by one day...unless you arrive really early!

I am convinced this shut down will run into the next one in 2 weeks... as long as it is over before the end of the month we will be fine. I really worry for those people who rely on the government actually doing their job...I think it is time for a MOM to get in there and threaten to take away their toys until they clean up the mess and stop fighting. Seriously...I have made my kids hold hands until they stop fighting.

Figures.... Some day I will meet the two of you. :surfweb:

Well, Chiara and I are missing each other by one day...or maybe a half day. She arrives the day I leave. We might try to hang around later to leave if they get in early enough.
Or we could wait and leave Sunday, but that creates a logistical nightmare trying to include church into a leaving plan...might work on that...

Well...today I am going to bite the bullet and reserve our April trip. I will wait until after church services this morning to do it...simply because I have waited too long to be able to call before we leave...which what what I had planned on doing! I still have to decide if we are arriving on Friday night or Saturday morning...if Friday night our ADR day is today, if Saturday morning our ADR day is tomorrow.

I am really having trouble fitting in all the kids favorites right now. We usually go for 10 days, but in April it will be only 7... And with 5 people going it will be hard to fit in all their must do's.

Ok...I don't know if it is my laptop or the site, but spell check is driving me crazy this morning! It has taken me twice as long as normal to type this...simple things like their keeps changing to thier...seriously? I think it is time to stop rambling and turn this baby off...maybe it did not get a good rest last night....
