Planning a trip in December 2012. We want to see the holiday decorations, but will wait for Cars land to open.

The prices we are getting online are so much higher than we expected. Are the prices much higher next year because they think the economy will get better/Cars being a hit... or are the prices high now because its so far away? Should we expect the prices to decrease? When is the best time approximately to book for the best rates?

Disney normally increases the ticket prices $5-$10 each year but for some reason the price increases this last time were in the $25-$50 range (depending on what type of ticket you get), at both WDW and DLR.

I'm not sure why they did this but I do know they have priced me out and it is going to be 3-4 years before my family can go back after our trip next month.

I know that the tickets goes up... I was referring to the hotels being hundreds to thousands of dollars higher.

I would bet that hotels are so high because your dates are so far out. Right now there is a 25%-30% promo for the Disney hotels, so if you're comparing next year to this year keep that in mind.

It's because it's so far out. Disneyland hotels don't hav set prices like WDW, they fluctuate with demand. I would look at this years prices, and plan for a little higher.

Oh dear, is this why all the admission tickets I'm seeing online are "for first use by 12/31/2011"? We changed our minds & are going to go right at the beginning of January instead of Christmas week, but it sounds like we'll be paying a lot more in admission by waiting? Yikes! Also, the hotels for that week seem really expensive & I was wondering the same thing -- whether hotels were waiting to get through this holiday season before running new specials for the New Year. I'm a total newbie so I'm just trying to make sense of it all!

I agree with the others that part of the reason is that you are looking so far out. I would fully expect to see a significant bump up in prices next year though. By your dates especially, the DCA and hotel construction will be complete, and demand is expected to be high.

Ticket prices last increased in June. It is not unprecedented for Disney to raise ticket prices more than once in a 12 month period, but it is also not a certainty that they will. In fact, they often run a ticket special during the spring, "adults at kid prices" for instance. We will just have to wait until January to see. I, personally, thought they would wait until DCA was complete or nearly complete before bumping up the prices again.

The first week of January is still holiday time at Disneyland this year, so the prices of hotels might be higher than those years when the holiday festivities have ended and the decorations are coming down. The hotel prices usually dip a bit after the holiday season, and deals for late winter and early spring start to show up.

As PP said, they already raised ticket prices and the current tickets out on the market SHOULD be good until December 2012....where are you seeing "use by Dec 2011" tickets?

I think you misread. The official Disneyland ticket page says "Valid now through December 31, 2012."

You are correct.

I can buy tickets through a work website and there is a 2011 hopper rate and a 2012 rate. 2012 park hoppers are $25 more! Bummer!!!

You're right, I went back through some of the sites and it's 12/31/2012! I didn't pay close enough attention to that last digit. I guess I'm not thinking THAT far ahead, so it didn't occur to me :)
