2012 Marathon?

Jumping on the band wagon but I'd really like to try for Goofy in 2012. I've done the Wine & Dine half and I figure if I start training in November that is (hopefully) enough time to do Goofy. See it's tax season and since 2012 has the races earlier in January I have more of a chance to break away and go down.

Coach - If you don't mind my asking.. where can I find some good Goofy training plans??

I was going to do the Goofy in 2012, but I know my knees cannot take a back to back walk. It takes my about 3:30 to walk a half and 7 hours to walk a full. I have bad knees:sad2:

I have a treadmill at my apartment now. I'll be starting my training program by December this year. I will schedule a couple of halfs in 2011 in preparation for the Full Marathon in January 2012.

Since I am not going down this year in January, I will be back in 2012. The question is will I do just the full or go for the Goofy once again. I have said in the past that I would never do the Goofy again, but I love the challenge. I still have time to decide, but I am glad to see this thread, it will keep me motivated!

I'm in for 2012. Maybe Goofy, def Marathon again. I just wish the Half Course and the full course were a little more different. But I can't think of any ways to substantially improve it so I'm not gonna complain.

It is my plan to do the Princess Half Marathon in 2012. I have run "on and off" throughout my life. The couple of times I was getting better, I got pregnant, had the kids, dealt with no sleep...etc...

Doing my first 5K next week!! Plan to do one every other month and I want to do the Princess Half Marathon! I will be on the Disney cruise in April so I will do the Castaway Cay 5k too. I am a HUGE Disney fan and I bet this is a wonderful experience....

Right now I can do the 5k on the treadmill ...but....on gravel...I struggle. I expect 35-40 minutes next week! But it will be a first...

I hear you. The trip up and back from Epcot to Magic Kingdom is really pretty dull. That's why I like the full so much better. You get all four parks, plus some quiet and pretty areas between the parks. Unless they move the start of the half, I'm not sure what changes they could make.

Hi Everyone.
I, too, am aiming for the Goofy in 2012. I thought I was a bit nuts planning it this far out but it looks like I'm not alone.
I did the Marathon in 2006 and thought we would never go back as it's a very long journey all the way from Melbourne, Australia.
But...things just wouldn't be complete with out the Goofy.
And, of course, my family completely agree with the whole idea!:cool1:
So :goofy: here we come.

I'm amazed, as well, by how far out everyone is thinking, but how very cool! Always good to know you're not alone. I've run the Disney full twice - 2007 and 2009 - and am ready to go again with the hopes of improving my time (from "very slow" to "not quite that slow").

Preparation is the key to finishing the marathon. I had never run further than 7 miles in my life before aiming for the 2007 event, but survived the distance despite record-breaking heat (might as well have been in August, I think - quite the opposite of last year, I hear). That race came about because I needed to lose weight and a buddy and I made a pact we would run a marathon. We figured if we were going to be miserable for 26.2 miles, we might as well do it at the happiest place on the planet.

It is a lot of fun and a unique experience that you'll never forget. Very best of luck to all of you giving this a go - especially if it's your first. Hopefully, we'll see you there and look forward to following the threads!

Good luck on your first 5k - I have been run/walking since 2007 - started in June and was did my first 5K the end of that month in 36 minutes. My first big race was the Tower of Terror 13k in October of 2007. It was what got me started and kept me motivated to keep at this run/walking thing. And I just did a 5k this past Saturday and I am still in that 36 minute time range. Sometimes I wonder why I am doing this to my self but then I the Disney races and the medals at the end are what make me keep torturing myself. I did my first full in 2009 and the Princess 1/2 in 2009 and then this year I did the Goofy. Guess I had so much fun I signed up for Goofy again

I think I might be taking 2012 off for the full and doing the half - so please don't say its the full's 20th - I am a sucker for the "anniversary" races - guess that's what drew me to Goofy last year since it was the 5th anniversary. I am hoping to take it easy in 2012 and then build up for a full in Nov of 2012 as I will be turning 40 and I think it will be neat to do a full somewhere else beside Disney. But then again I might regret it with the heat we have here in south Florida

So the suspense is over marathon weekend is Jan 5 - 8th 2012. It is listed in the program for 2011.

I have decided I am back for goofy 2012. I did it in 2010 but I feel I only "just finished" which I was thrilled with being over weight in dealing with huge PF issues but I want to reach a time goal I have set for myself and have started a walk/jog program which I hope I will be able to maintain throughout both races. I have pledged to make myself healthier, I turn 45 in Feb and I will not start the trek to 50 overweight and unhealthy that is just setting myself up for more problems as I get older.

Wow sorry didn't mean to vent on like that just started coming out.

Anyways, just wanted to tell you all the 2012 date :);)

Thanks for the info. All the best with your 'healthier you' goals.

I'd like to sign up for my first full at WD in 2012!

I'm doing the Disney World half in 2011 (my second half); have the mini marathon in Indy scheduled for May 2011 and the Disneyland half in Sept of 2011. Only seems fitting that I bump up to the full in 2012 :)

Well, I am going to do the goofy. My son and daughter threw the challenge at me since I did the half 2x and full 1x. Actually, I am going to miss this year marathon which makes feel sad.

Count me in for 2012 too! DH plans on the Goofy, and I'll be with him for the marathon. We completed our first marathon (the WDW Ice Adventure of 2010) this year, and are very excited to do another. It was one of the best days of my life.

We started running at age 38 on September 1, 2008, and I'm happy to report that we're both still at it.

I'm new to even *thinking* about doing something like this, but I'm seriously wanting to try the Princess in 2012. For me, that would mean starting to train in January 2011. :thumbsup2

Probably no one knows the answer to this, but thought I'd ask anyway:

What do you think the 2012 Princess Run dates will be?

Is there any chance that it will be first days of March? I feel like it's been set there before, but this year was earlier?

Silly reason why I am hoping that it's beginning of March... my dd's birthday is March 5, and I would love for us to be there then!

Thank you for any help on this!

I am looking for the same info. From what I can see the princess 2012 dates are not out there yet!!! I hope they come out soon!!!!! That would be so great if you could tie DD birthday and your race together in the same trip. I think (don't quote me lol) normally the dates are the 1st weekend in March, but this time they moved it up to the last weekend in Feb. I hope this helps out =)

The Princess dates will probably come out sometime in March for 2012. It was originally announced this year for March 6, and they changed it sometime after that to February.

I plan on running my first half marathon Jan 2012 at disney, I am not a runner at all, and when I found out that Disney half marathon runs through the parks, what better motivation than that! I started the couch to 5k program in September and ran my first 5K halloween weekend.

I have a few questions for anyone who has ran in these before, what resorts do you recommend staying at? There are going to be a group of us going, so want to make sure to make it as easy as possible for everyone.

Thanks for the info
Kim

It's a great first event. Remember that the half only hits MK and Epcot and that of the 13 miles only 2 are actually in the park. Not trying the squelch your enthusiasm but I hear after most races that too much of the race is not in the parks.

As far as the 'best' resorts it all depends on your budget. The first hurdle is staying on property. To get the full dose of the experience you need to be on property. Here all resorts will have buses running the to expo, 5k, kiddo races and the half and full. So working from the economical end up...

The Pop in my opinion is the better economy resort, at least for the next year. It is similar in size to one of the all-star resorts but does not share a ride with anyone (once the new section opens that will no longer be true). Purely from the transportation aspect I would prefer that resort. That means there is nothing wrong with the All Stars, especially if you like the theme of one in particular... also, the full does run by the All Stars so spectators could avoid all traffic and watch from the bridge.

Two moderates are high, the PO resorts and the CBR. The CBR is usually taken up with a lot of charity teams so rooms can be hard to come by. It is also a little more spread out; though the rooms are slightly larger. It's a matter of taste and preference

At the higher end - any monorail resort! There is nothing finer than being able to sleep in just a few moments longer on race day. Spectators can sleep in even longer and watch you go by the resort then hop the monorail for a trip to Epcot and the finish.

Finally, DVC if you want the entire troop in a single unit this is the way to go. You can sleep up to 12 in a room - and they do rent out all room types as revenue rooms. The BWV, BCV have the advantage of being near Epcot so you can walk back to your resort. Note that if you finish before 9 am you will have to wait to walk through the park after it opens or take a bus back to the resort. Also, the Epcot resorts require you to bus or drive to the start - you cannot walk to the start through the park pre-race.

Hope this helps... honestly there are no bad resorts for the January event.
