2012 Free Dining Watch and Wait HERE

Yes, you can add it later. That's what I've done. Just be prepared that you may have to change resorts if they don't have availability in your current resort. Last year, when I added FD, we had to switch from POFQ to POR.

Thanks for the help! We are staying at Coronado Springs, 11/1 - 11/8. Hopefully they have something during those days!

So if the free dining period ends on the 15th, and my DH and DD can't arrive till the 16th, but myself and my DS arrive on the 15th and check us in, will we all be okay for free dining? Will they even know that only 2 of the 4 of us are here that first night?

I read on the discounts thread someone got PIN for FD for dates8/5 to 12/20, with some black-out dates (11-17 to 11-24).

So hopefully a GP discount soon!

We are scheduled to go to Disney December 10-17th, so our 180-day mark is in June. I am torn on if I want to pay for the DDP or just go OOP. I am seriously hoping for FD to come out for these dates, but I know that won't be until after our 180 mark. For others in this same boat, do you go ahead and make ADRs and then cancel them if for some reason FD doesn't come out for your dates, or do you wait until it comes out and then make your ADRs?

I'm just wondering how others deal with this situation, not trying to do anything 'wrong' :)

I am going to make ADR's and if I don't get FD, then I'm cancelling a few of them, or I'm going to maybe see about switching them to a lunch or breakfast ADR if possible. Cheaper at those times.

I don't quite understand why so many people are sooo excited for free dining. I know it saves money buuut. . . wouldn't that promotion make the parks more crowded and ADRs much tougher to get? I'm just a bit confused (and a newbie!)

It can have a slight impact on crowds, but typically free dining is offered during the slower weeks of the year. ADRs can be hard to get regardless of free dining, so it isn't much different. We only do the QS plan so we don't have to worry about making ADRs. For us, they take way too much time away from enjoying the parks. We eat out a lot at home, so we don't feel the need to waste hours at sit down meals on vacation. If I want a steak, I can go to Applebee's when we get home. I cannot ride PoTC when I get home.

We just went to back to pop for this same reason. We added teh WP&F option back on to our tickets and opted for the QSDP. We have used it the past 2 years and it seems to work well for us. I did keep H&V for Jake for my youngest but we will still come out ahead almost 650.00.

At home, eating out usually means Steak N Shake, Golden Corral or fast food... it is a rare occasion that we get to eat at a sit-down full service dinner (the kind that serves steak and such). So eating at sit-down dinners IS part of our vacation. It is basically built into the way we do the parks, and yet I always find time to ride everything I want to.... I love FD, but would do the dining plan even without it.

It's a part of our vacation as well! We love to try out new restaurants. Plus we use that time to sit down and relax and talk about what we've done and what we want to do. Plus, there's a lot of different types of food in Disney that we can't get around here.

When did they change the end date of the free dining? When it was first announced the end date was the 29th of September (see even disney food blog says so: http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2012/03/05/disney-world-free-dining-august-and-september-2012/) But now when you call Disney or look on their official site it says that FD ends on the 15th. We are booked for the 23rd and have FD but now my mom wants to come down with my little brother the same time as us and is having a hard time getting the FD.

From what I understand is that Canada had their book by date changed to Sept 15th.

I'm sure the info. is here somewhere but I haven't been able to locate it. Is there a code for free dining or do I just request that when I call to make my reservations? If I have to use a code, where do I find it?

Unfortunately, you can't just call and request free dining. You have to wait until Disney comes out with another free dining offer (one just expired yesterday), or if you receive a PIN number through the mail or e-mail. We are going to Disney in Oct/Nov and I am checking my e-mail frequently hoping for free dining offer. Many times the offers are presented to Disney Visa cardholders first, and then to the general public a few days later. Keep checking this thread because if/when a new free dining offer becomes available, you'll definitely read about it here!:)
