2012 Epcot Food and Wine Festival *HAS ENDED*

Yeah, my ressie is up online and isn't showing sweet seats either....my cc was charged correctly though so it seems this won't be specified online.

See all you 10/26ers there!!

All of my reservations except for PFTS showed up yesterday. Now I just have to be patient until our trip:rolleyes1

I purchased a wristband gc last year using a pre-loaded Visa rebate card with no problem. This year I've been taking advantage of the 5.00 and 10.00 Target GCs that Target gives when you purchase certain items. I use these to buy Disney gc at Target-so far I have 100.00 just by doing this :)

You can always use your KTTW card for all your purchases, sacrificing the wristband but having it all accumulating on your room. Don't let your room charges go above your daily limit, or the resort will charge your credit card and you'd start over. By that, I'd mean getting your Front Desk to reverse the charges and apply part of your pre-purchased gift certificates. The resorts have different limits. Values have a lower limit than Deluxes. Ask your Front Desk cast member when you check in. It's not a bad idea to settle up with the gift cards on the last night of your trip so nothing gets charged to your credit card.

The wristband gift cards are sold at various locations. I've seen them at the gift shop at the International Gateway, the open-air Festival shops that are near where Future World meets World Showcase Plaza. And if you're going through the main entrance, the Festival Center (former Wonders of Life pavilion) sells them with all the Festival merchandise.

thanks for the heads up about daily limits on the room charge; i really didn't know i had a limit! i don't mind not getting the wristband giftcard if using my kttw will be easier. but i still plan on buying an f&w giftcard to at least keep as a souvenir. i think the minimum amount i can load is $5. so i will do that and use it at one of the kiosks, and then i have my souvenir! :thumbsup2

yeah, i figured you could buy the f&w giftcards with visa (or other credit card branded) giftcards. it's buying the f&w giftcards with a disney giftcard that is the question. from what i gather, we cannot buy f&w giftcards with a disney giftcard.

Does it even need to be that complicated?

Why doesn't WDW work out some process whereby each day's F&W events are released for booking at some set interval in advance, like 60 days? Guests could book over the phone at 7am WDW time or even online at 6am as these events become available. It sounds impossible but surely they could come up with something ;)

I just wish they would do something different and not the same old / same old.

Having to make hotel reservations 9 months in advance and then hope you picked the right set of dates.

And then having to play telephone roulette to try and get the events during the time period that the hotel is booked for.

It's just insane. And the telephone situation yesterday was infuriating. At this rate I am going to need to take a day off from work next year to try and call in.

I arrange with my supervisor to be late. I was an hour and 15 minutes late yesterday, including the 45 minute commute and 53 minutes on hold.

Amen! I think they should stagger by dates, like this:

Events Sept 28 through Oct 12: Booking opens Aug. 14
Events Oct 13 through Oct 27: Booking opens Aug. 21
Events Oct 28 through Nov 12: Booking opens Aug. 28

That way, only a third of the people are calling each time. And obviously the ultimate solution would be to offer online booking for ALL events, but I don't trust Disney IT to do so.

I really like this idea. It's very simple but would solve a lot of our problems.

I like the idea of staggered booking but I would have them done in June or early July (or earlier!!)!! Releasing info in Late July/early August for booking in August is way to stressful for those of us who take the time off of work months in advance just to try and get some of the events!

I'm sure they don't release them earlier because they don't have everyone lined up as to who will show up when and what they will be presenting. They don't even have complete info for some of the deminars now. I'm sure you don't want to book if you don't know what's scheduled and when.

I wouldn't want to book the events that are presenter specific without knowing who it would be but the events like the PFTS, 3D party, and even the lunches would be okay to book without knowing a whole lot of details!

The WDW website is listing events (not the deminars) that are sold out. According to their page, all of the Marketplace Chef Tours are sold out (I did not anticipate these being popular - I don't know anybody who was interested in doing one) and all of the Italian Regional Lunches although the page gave odd dates for these - they take place Wednesdays and Saturdays but some of the dates given were for Tuesdays. Disney IT strikes again.

Both Brown Derby signatures are sold out, as are the Jiko signature and the Truffle Lunch at Tutto Italia.

I'd like to know which events are sold out. I've been trying to find this info on the WDW web page but I can't seem to find it. Do you have a link to the page? Thanks

Same here. Didn't see it on the site.

They've marked some events as sold out on the list of premium events:
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/pa...tional-food-and-wine-festival/premium-events/
This likely isn't a real-time inventory; I have a hard time believing these are the only events sold out and nothing is marked on the sweet events page.

I'm also surprised that the marketplace tours sold out so quickly. Capacity might be more of a factor (DFB lists each tour group as ~10 guests, but I didn't see a mention anywhere of how many tours would run at the same time)

Wow, that was quick!

Thanks for sharing your strategy! This will be our first PFTS and we have WVL reserved. How many people were in your group? Since there are only 2 of us, do you think this approach will work? Did anything get cold while you were gathering all the plates to taste? I am so excited!!
Hi Karen, I know you'll have a GREAT time at F&W! There were three in our group, and the strategy worked extremely well. Another thing that we really liked about WVL was that if/when a vendor offered extras to us, we had less worry keeping up with the items for the rest of the evening. For instance, we had been to a wine seminar and a dinner that included wine from a particular vintner last year, and when he saw us at PFTS, he gave us a wonderful bottle of wine (corked) to take home. Well, it would have been a true pain to wander around carrying an extra bottle of wine all night. Our waiter offered to take it and bag it for us. He brought it back to the table with our gift bags at the end of the evening. The year before, one of the beer vendors was very generous. He had brought logo glasses for his beer and he encouraged us to keep the glasses as souvenirs. He said, "We always use new glasses at events, so these would go to waste!" So, we came home with a nice collection of Leffe, Hoegaarden and Stella Artois glasses! Can you imagine what a pain it would have been to walk around with those all night?! Again, our waiter offered to bag them and brought them back to the table at the end of the evening. All in all, I really have found the extra level of service is worth the additional cost.

Most dishes were not piping hot or extra chilly when served, so temperature did not change too much between service time and when we sat down to taste. Also, with the past configuration, the WVL was more spread out than other areas, so it definitely didn't seem as warm around our table as elsewhere in the arena. The biggest plus to us in having more dishes gathered to taste at once was that it gave us an opportunity to truly compare techniques and seasonings that had been utilized with each dish. If the dishes are chosen the same way as in the past, each chef will be given a category for his dish, and then he is free to prepare his own dish within that category. You will find that several chefs may have prepared "similar" dishes by description, but it's really hard to analyze the true differences in their dishes if you are tasting them with a lot of lag time in between. Gathering all of these similar dishes before tasting eliminates the lag time and, in my opinion, increases the enjoyment.

REGARDING LEAVING YOUR PURSE AT YOUR TABLE... Someone above mentioned that they enjoyed WVL because they could leave their purse at their table. I urge you to use caution with this. I also had felt safe doing this, but learned it was a very poor decision last year. I had lost an earring back during the event last year. Rather than wearing just one earring, I took them both off and put them in my purse. I was seated at our table when I did this, and I then placed my purse in my chair and tucked it under our table. As table placement is assigned by when you make your reservations for WVL, we were the second table in the second row... so not right by the ropes or in a walkway. Someone would have had to have a WVL wristband and would have had to walk specifically to my table to take my purse... and someone did. This was during one of the shorter "wine trips" and so we were only away from the table about five minutes. My purse was found about fifteen minutes later underneath the artisanal cheese display, with my room key, annual pass and lipstick still there... but minus the earrings. Lesson learned. I probably will not bring a purse to future events and will just stuff any extras I want to bring inside my poor husband's pockets!

Your screen name truly fits you, Expert. I think this is a FANTASTIC idea! :thumbsup2

I agree with not leaving your purse unattended at a WVL table. I always use an evening bag that is just big enough to carry essentials. You will get a small tote bag to carry your PFTS glass as you leave at the end of the night.
We went last year during the torrential rain-dressy clothes and ponchos! Hoping for better weather this year :)
