2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

I don't mean to play devil's advocate as I am usually a "glass half full" type of person. I do respect everyone's positive comments about the BC/YC, you can truly tell that this is a great resort for as much love everyone has for it.

My problem I have with this whole situation is that a Deluxe Disney trip is very expensive, even for those who can afford it. Also, for many people it is a once a lifetime experience (or a few). I personally have been sending my son to swimming lessons for the past 3 months to ready him for the waterslide (so he can swim away on his own). Luckily we are going in May and hopefully everything is ok by then, but I just feel so bad for those who had plans during the refurb. I think that if parts were ordered, Disney knew about this and could have given people more advance notice. It's just a bummer with all of the other ride closures that are going on, and yes you can make the most out of any situation, but for the money you are paying, you want (and deserve) the best!

You guys convinced me.. I called guest services.. Spoke to Carol. I got switched back.. And a discount!! Was able to put my 5 day hopper on my ressie for $1.. Just waiting for the tax $$ to come in and we will add the dining..
I feel like for the first time in 4 days I can breathe.. I am happy with my decision to stay at BC for so many reasons, the most being that BC has so much more to offer than just SAB..
Oh and now I can't wait to meet Tina!!

loganpaulsmom: Glad you are happy with your decision. Sometimes you just know when it feels "right". BTW... how did you end up with a bigger discount?? Good for you!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for everyone's response on this! I think based on these responses I'm going to play it by ear. if the boats back to MK are still running, I am going to see what works best. If there's a cab right there at the HDD. I might take that. If what Teena says is true, I mean busses outside the HDD to take us back to the Yacht Club? How convenient.

Thank you all!

In 2008 we did the Haunted Carriage Ride at FW. When we got done there were busses waiting for the HDDR to finish. We caught a bus for YC right there.

Ok, I'll play Angel's Advocate to your Devil. ;)

With regard to this one sentence...my take is that yes, they knew and yes, they ordered the parts, but how many times have you had things done around your house or to your car where you had to order the parts and were told "we'll call you when they come in". I'd be willing to bet that this is the same with Disney. They knew, but they had no idea when the parts would be in and they didn't want to send out a "we're going to close the pool" without a firm date because the would have created a bigger panic.

I agree - it is terrible for those affected, but someone was going to be affected. (or is that effected?) It could have been the week your going or the week I'm going or the week any one of us is going.

It stinks, but I really don't think it would have been a good idea for Disney to send out a message in January/February when they found the problem that "sometime in the next couple of months we'll be shutting down about 1/2 of SAB for some unexpected repairs." Can you imagine the uproar if they did that?

Short break while I'm waiting for some props to dry...

I LOVE Bye Bye Birdie! I even bought the Dvd for the car so my kids would know what the heck I was talking about!

Good luck with the Science Fair - we're in the middle of our "creativity fair". Ugh - three kids, three different kind of projects (one history, one science, one ILA) - all very detailed specific with tons of rules and regulations! I can't wait until it's done - see this is why I NEED a BC vacation!

You know, I have never seen the play or the movie, so this is a new one for me. I really like it. Ben has his biggest role to date: Randolph MacAfee, Kim's little brother. He even has a little solo in the song Kids. First time "singing" for him.

I have helped to run the science fair for 7 years and my kids have never done a project!

Good luck with your creativity fair. Sounds really interesting!

Dee, good luck with your busy/fun week! And Happy Science Season - we have science fair tonight!

Thanks.

What are the projects?

Hi BCers!!! Been awhile since I last posted, though I have faithfully been keeping up with all the antics!

I think I was having Disney withdrawal but today I finally paid the deposit for our summer trip!! We will be spending a week at CSR with my sister And her family (her choice... But takes another resort off my list... Someday I will try them all).. Then a week at our favorite BC CL!! I cannot wait!! So can we please be added to the be our guest list... 7/31-8/7...

Now I wait, make a thousand lists and still hope for an AP / room only discount... Wouldn't that be nice!!

Hope to see some of you again this summer...

:wave2:

Nice to hear from you again! I'll add you to the list

As long as the dates are eligible you can!! :thumbsup2 Cindy

Thanks for the info. My DH and I will look at the dates. Right now, we are having trouble finding a time when the boys have enough time off from school.

:welcome: back!

Our "Future Enjoyment" letter arrived today, and is very similar to the letter we received before our February 2011 stay. I know parts of this are available elsewhere on the boards, but I'll add it here:

Dear Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and Disney's Beach Club Villas Guest,

We are delighted you have selected the Walt Disney World Resort as your vacation destination!

In order for our resort to continue to flourish as a magical destination, it is necessary for us to make enhancements from time to time.

If you have stayed with us before, you are most likely familiar with our Stormalong Bay pool complex. While this swimming and recreation area has provided our Guests with endless enjoyment for many years, it is time to refresh a portion of the pool as well as the pool's water slide. Beginning Monday, April 9, the pool and slide will be closed to Guests so we may begin this effort. We expect the project to be completed in late April. The rest of the Stormalong Bay pool complex will remain open for your enjoyment. In addition, you may also enjoy our three leisure pools: Admiral Pool at Disney's Yacht Club, Tidal Pool at Disney's Beach Club, and Dunes Cove Pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas.

Should you wish to have a slide as part of your pool experience, we are making the Luna Park pool and slide at the neighboring Disney's BoardWalk Inn & Villas available for your enjoyment. Shuttle transportation will be made available during this timeframe for our Guests wishing to take advantage of the nearby pool experience.

Thank you and we look forward to your upcoming stay. If you have any questions regarding your reservation, please contact your original booking agent listed on your confirmation.

Sincerely,
The Cast of Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and Disney's Beach Club Villas.

Aw, I'm so glad for you that you were able to work everything out!!! I hope you have a great trip! And amazing that you got a better discount - how'd you manage that?:worship:

I too would like to know about the discount. Probably wouldn't apply to me though the week of Easter.

First off my wife and I are so happy I found this thread. We are staying at YC this October and can't wait. Thank you to everyone for all of the information. It is very useful!

Second, we are fortunate to have a friend who is able to get us a room discount. With that said we won't know till almost August about the ability to add a dining plan. Has anyone not used a dining plan but stayed within a budget? We are worried that without we'll be spending a ton on food. Now its just the 4 of us, kids are 9 and 8.

Thanks!

I will have access to The DIS while down there, if I get a chance I will send some live updates!

Don't tease me, unless you are prepared to deliver on those live updates! I have over 6 months to go, so definitely need my fix.

Based on the ticker, we'll be there at the same time.

Re: dining plan. I personally don't think the regular DDP is that great of a deal. And I really struggled with whether I wanted to add the DxDP to our trip this time (we did, but I'm still pondering that one). I would recommend that you look through the menus in All Ears. That will give you an idea of options and pricing. Being close to Epcot means you can eat at the CS in World Showcase. I love Morocco and France and Sunshine Seasons for CS, and they are not expensive. In MK, Columbia Harbor House is quite good. In DHS, both 50's and Sci-Fi are OK in terms of pricing and they are TS restaurants. In both of those, the portions are large enough that you can share.

Has the Beach Club specific merchandise arrived? The YC had some very nice items and I'm so hoping the BC will have resort specific not just DVC :goodvibes

Getting so excited about that smell when we check in.

are there any pictures of the pool currently with the wall up that I can show DH so he will know what to expect? Just got a CM, CP, and CG ADR. so excited!!

I have heard from a reliable source that BC merchandise has arrived at the Market Place.

I've looked for this info but so far haven't found it - sorry if this has been asked and answered before..... on the standard view club rooms at the BC - do these rooms have balconies and if so are they full balconies or standing only?

I ask as my DM really uses this as an extra space to read early in the morning while teen DS and I sleep in ;)

Oh and one other maybe odd question.... what time does SAB open in the mornings and in June is it crazy early? One thing my DS loved on our last trip (we stayed at the Swan as BC/YC was booked) was that the grotto pool was almost empty first thing - and it was open early even if the towel area was not.

Thanks for the info - I'm a bit excited for this trip

Most of the standard view club level rooms have full balconies but not all. You should add "full balcony" as a request on your reservation.

SAB's hours are different depending on the time of the year. I believe when I was there in August it opened at 9 AM but I'm not totally sure about that. The three quiet pools are open 24/7. You cannot get into SAB unless it's "open".

We are a family of 5-kids aged 22, 14 and 5 and have never used dining plan as it works out too pricy for us but my youngest is not a fan of character meals (we had to leave cape may last year as he was panicking:confused3) and we dont eat dessert with every meal! If you're planning alot of character meals it can get expensive but other than that I think its really easy to eat well and stay within budget:thumbsup2 Check out allears for menus and note that even kids meals are large enough to share in some cases (AK had huge chicken nuggets meals). We never ordered 5 QS meals and always had more than enough to eat. We also found than it was easy to share some elements of out table-service meals but we all liked our own main course;) Hope this helps:)
