I just read on another website that 2012 is a anniverary year for the Mickey. Is this correct? If so what anniverary?

Thanks
Kim

Nope - I assume that the WDW Marathon is considered the Mickey? It is the Anniversary of the WDW Half Marathon (15 years) but I am not sure if they are doing anything special for it. 2014 will be the 20th Anniversary of the WDW Marathon, and 2013 will be the 5th Anniversary of the Princess Half Marathon.

Actually 2013 is Mickey's 20th anniversary. Same year as the 5th Princess.

The first WDW Marathon was January 1994 - so wouldn't that make it 2014 for the 20th Anniversary? :confused3

The 15th anniversary was 2008 so 2013 is the 20th. It is the 20th running including the first which us usually how races celebrate as opposed to anniversaries in the wedding anniversary sense of the term.

Thanks Frank. For a minute there I was totally panicked, since I have been planning on doing the full in '13 for the 20th anniversary. Glad to know I was planning for the right year!

Back to the half comment, for some reason Disney hasn't done anything to celebrate the milestone halfs.

Actually they did do a 5th anniversary in 2002 - but did skip the 10th. I thought it was due to no 'perfect 10' half runners but apparently there were a few - one on this board I believe. Anyway, the fastest a race has ever sold out was the 2002 half which sold out in less than 2 weeks.

I would expect a 15th based on the uncomfortable wink-wink I got from the runDisney folks in Houston last month.

We'll see

I guess I hadn't realized that they did anything in 2002 for the half since that was the first year I moved up to do the full.

As for the 10th, that was the first year of Goofy and the way I've heard it was that Disney was putting so much time and effort into separating the full and half into 2 separate days and the popularity of Goofy that the 10th anniversary of the half was simply forgotten/overlooked.

An uncomfortable wink-wink? Perhaps they are now realizing that the Anniversary races are attracting a lot more people. It sounds like they are listening to a lot of the concerns raised (maybe spying on these threads too) and suggestions and actually acting on a lot of them. :yay:

I suspect that one reason for not doing anything big for some of the half's anniversaries is because they didn't need to. The half has never really had much trouble selling out and the addition of the Goofy only helped it get filled faster.

Thanks all for the info. The info was corrected on the other site as well.

It is too bad they don't celebrate the anniversary's of the half.

Kim

If they have 27,000 without an anniversary medal, what would they get with one. Even more than an overcrowded race! Mayber they will start the first wave at 5:30 am and the last at 7:00 am

I hope they do something special for the half in 2012. I'd like to do it and the relay the next day...if I can afford it. :sad2: However, if they don't, I may not go or just do the relay if I do. I'd definitely like to do the full in 2013. Gotta love those anniversaries!
