2011 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ, Part II

The boat dock is at Yacht Club, if that matters. I have a knee problem too and found it super easy to stay at YC and get on the boat to Epcot or DHS. It saved a lot of steps, not walking to/from Epcot, and not walking from Beach Club to and from the boat dock. We didn't use the Marketplace at Beach Club, though... if we did, that would have been a ton of walking.

That's another reason why we are thinking YC, although DH still wants to do the walking path to Epcot since he says the boat takes too long. If I do have a scooter, we'll likely still do the walking path from BC and boat to DHS. I'm not sure how much we'd be using the Marketplace either as we are planning to stay CL and will have the lounge for breakfast/snackies.

Please listen to your DH and rent a scooter. If a few extra steps to the boat will make that much of a difference then how do you figure you can handle walking around a park? Do yourself and your DH a huge favour and get the scooter. You won't regret it. Not getting it on the other hand is something you likely will regret. If your knee gets really sore then you could end up laid up for a day or two. Does that sound like a fun vacation for you or your DH?

Get the scooter. You won't regret it.

Oh, and to answer your question, I think YC sounds more your style. Don't choose based on those few saved steps to Epcot. You'll have a scooter anyway, right? Choose the resort that feels more suited to your tastes.

I can walk for one or two days at the parks without a lot of issues, but I am worried about the five day stay. He originally didn't want me to get a scooter, but now I think he's changed his mind again. I think I would need one for the reasons you listed. I just hate having to drive one of those things at the parks. People cut in front of you in lines, kids dart in front of you, you get a ton of dirty looks and rude comments, and I do a really rotten job driving those things. People were hateful the couple of times I took a bus (even though I wouldn't "skip ahead" people who had been waiting a long time and there were only two in our party) so we drove most of the time. I had to have one for our 2008 trip or my doctor wouldn't allow me to go, and it was just an all around unpleasant experience. Still, I was at least able to walk when I got home, and I did enjoy myself in the parks.

I have a question maybe someone here who has rented a scooter can answer.

Can you take the scooter on the water taxi to DHS?

TIA

Yes, you can and it's probably the easiest form of transport to load one on. They have a little ramp they put down and you just drive on. They gave me the option of sitting in my scooter on the boat or parking it and sitting on a bench. I always chose the bench because I didn't feel secure sitting on the scooter while the boat/monorail/bus, etc. was in motion.

Remember, you can always call and cencel. That's how walk-ups get to get a seat. No cancellation fees, just call. Always better to have and then to cancel than to not have at all and not be able to enjoy. And yes, the Yachtsman Steakhouse is worth it (IMHO).

I guess your right. I always thought it was wrong to make them and have to cancel them...............but I never thought about how lucky the walk-up guests feel when they can get a table there!!!

I think I will go ahead and do this, it would be a great surprise for DH. I'll send the kids to the parks one night for dinner, and we will meet them after.

Teena - I hope everything went well with your treatments. I'm looking forward to meeting you. We'll be at the BCV from 4/30 - 5/10. Will you be there this Sunday (May 1)?

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. See you soon! Treatments have been strange. Short and sweet - like less than 5 minutes. But I'm getting strange skin reactions below the area where they zap. Both doctors there said they have never seen anything like it.

I so agree with clanmcculloch here. I have watched people in pure pain try to push their way through DisneyWorld. You don't have to continually drive the scooter, but it would be nice for you to have just in case.

And don't worry about what others think, either. I've been a special education teacher long enough to know you can't always see what a person needs.

The two times I have been to Beaches & Cream it was during the evening and the first time in August 2010 I remember a lot of people were lined up on their take out section. So I was wondering when they open at 11:00 AM and in the afternoon how busy is the take out line?

It tends to be busy most of the day, everyone using their snack credits:thumbsup2, mint choc chip for my DH.

Is it bad to show up with less people than booked for? When I made my ADRs I put everyone on but I am not sure everyone will really go. Is it really a big deal?

Been there in December only so that might influence what my experience has been, but in the early afternoons and at opening I did not see any really significate waiting in the take-out area of B&C.

Thank you both for those replies.

Stuff happens- someone in your party may not feel well, others in your group may get delayed or sidetracked. I don't think it is a bad thing if not everyone shows up. Better to have too many on the reservation than not enough.

My advice is to keep the reservation as is, until you know for sure that others are not going. I would call dining reservations at that point to see if there is a reservation available for the lower number of guests. If so, take that reservation and cancel the other. If not, keep the original ADR and show up without the others.

We have shown up with both less and more (one or two people)...and never had a problem.:goodvibes

Teena glad your treatments are quick and your feeling good enough to go to work...hope they figure out your rash

The only time it matters is if the restaurant is one that requires a credit card hold. You may be charged a no-show fee for the people who aren't there. All other ADRs are fine.

Thanks everyone....

None of my reservations require a credit card, so I am good on that one. For this trip it is me, DH, DD, DS, MIL and FIL and I am not sure if some will be off doing something and not make or maybe don't want to eat with us at every meal, so I glad that if I show up with 4 instead of 6 that someone will not be upset...

Hello YC/BCers! First-time BC thread poster here.

I have long dreamed of staying at the Beach Club (in my only deluxe stay so far, BC was booked up and I had to settle for GF:laughing:) and I am finally going. Thanks to this thread, I have been able obsess when I need to and now, thanks to the lovely little PIN I got this winter, we were able to manage a stay in May. Thank you so much to Dee and Teena for your helpful info. I have been lurking forever and feel like I know you guys personally. And all you other posters, thanks so much for answering questions. I don't think there's much left for me to learn. Now I just gotta go!!

Please add me to your May list, May 18-23. Woohoo!

Shauna,

I agree with Amanda! Your concerns are JUST AS IMPORTANT as any one else's so don't let other people's rude behavior intimidate you.

Do what you have to do to make your trip as enjoyable and as comfortable as possible. It's what the majority of people would want for you (as well as for themselves) and It's what the folks at Disney would want for you! :thumbsup2

Have a great trip!!

Thanks for the reply

Good to hear that it is easy to get onto the boat. Originally we were booked at CR and I heard the monorail was easy with a scooter. I am dreading using the bus system to MK having never used a scooter before. Who knows if the weather is nice DH may feel up to walking to DHS and I can ride along beside him

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. See you soon! Treatments have been strange. Short and sweet - like less than 5 minutes. But I'm getting strange skin reactions below the area where they zap. Both doctors there said they have never seen anything like it.

Wow 5 minutes is not long at all , glad to hear that. Hope the skin reactions stop for you .

Teena--I hope the doctor's can figure out how to take care of that skin reaction. I am also so impressed with you--not many people come to work when they are having treatments! That is completely noble.

Teena - Sorry to hear about the skin reaction. Feel better!!!
Shauna - I agree with everyone else! Get the scooter!!! My mom has emphysema and struggles with walking, especially up and down hills (monorail ramp is a killer). She was too stubborn to rent an ECV in January and it almost ruined the trip for all of us! On a previous trip when she gas the ECV, she had a much better trip. There are many disabilities/mobility issues that aren't obvious. People need to stop judging others!!!

I am thinking about upgrading to a deluxe club level room BC, where in the building are these rooms? I tried to find room maps, but couldn't find them

Try the Giant Crab in Myrtle Beach, if you go early it is under $20 pp including drink with the coupon, we love that place
Thanks for the idea. Right now we are planning the dinner show and my friend was able to get some free buffet coupons for golden coral so that might happen one night. I have been to Original Bengermins but it cost a lot. So I will look for coupons for the giant crab. I am a coupon mom so hopefully I will get lucky.
Thanks
Heather

The Deluxe BC room numbers are: 1557, 2557, 3557, 4557, 3691 and 4691.

The rooms ending in 557 are closer to Epcot and the quiet pool and the rooms ending in 691 are above Cape May and close to SAB.

You know I feel like I am in a room with some of the best friends. My husband and I have been debating this with my DH. My doctor is trying to get me a scooter in general and just made me get a handicap tag recently. At almost 33 this is the most depressing thing I have had to face. I lived in Altamonte Springs, FL and was a part of the most wonderful marching band and then was in marching band in college. Years of "spran" ankels has caught up to me. We are finding out that I probably broke my left ankle a couple of times. Now I have bones have connected where they should not have and I have arthritis also. Surgery they want to do but when they start it will have to be done every 5 years on each ankle. I am trying to stretch this out as long as possible. I am a large woman, size 26 and have problems with thyroid and that hads more issues. My DH also a large man has problems with his knee. We have a 12 yr old going on 13 and I was held up with the fact that people will see two fat people in chairs while there son is walking being lazy.
Then last year I did not get any scooters and we only went into a park for a ADR and maybe hit a few things along the way but not much else because we both where in so much pain. Then three days before we left I stepped in a hole beside a sidewalk at the French Quarter and sprang my ankle and killed my knee. I got up the day before we left and got a push wheelchair to go to MK. My little man pushed me over to adventureland with my husband and I hated being a burden to my family. After last year being there for 10 days and only saw about a fourth of WDW in total. I left feeling that I wasted money.
So bottom line, I just booked two scooter with Apple, via earlier posts and I won't care if people think I am lazy or not! I am going to enjoy my vacation and not worry about being a burden on my kid this year.

Here is a picture of my Disney BOO BOO four days afterwards it looked worst on the second day. Get the the scooter, don't let this happen to you! I have nightmares of steping down wrong at the mk and getting ran over. I am not going to let this happen again.
