2011 Super Goofs

Maura, I was so glad when I did my last long run and could begin my taper, although it was tough to believe in it! I just found out that my son, who lives in Boston, will be playing guitar and singing with a friend of his on the marathon route! He's only out there for an hour and I don't know what time, but maybe you'll be running by while he's playing! (He's playing for a friend of his who has an absolutely awesome singing voice! She sounds alot like Sara Barellis). Wish I could be there to cheer everyone on!!popcorn::

This is was no run week for me, way too busy. But back on the plan tomorrow. Trying to schedule my runs ahead of time, but gosh darn work gets in the way some times ....as does family responsibilities.

Friday is April 1st....Spring, please don't fool me and come back. I'm really tired of 12 degree mornings.

Jeanne

Good morning Goofs!

Quick fly by to say hello. Hope everyone had a great weekend and its starting to warm up in your part of the country. Very hot weekend in central FL with lots of rain this week.

Maura, you are so ready for Boston and you are going to race fast and finish strong!!!

I did a 2 mile followed by a 10K distance dare on Saturday. Great race through the rich part of town so lots of great scenery and mansions to look at! Broke 2 toes on Wednesday afternoon so walked alot more than usual on the uneven brick streets but finished strong! They ran out of medals before I crossed but have already emailed and heard back from the owner of the running store and my medal will be in the mail this week. Big difference in customer service from another race I did last year.

Hi Goofs,

Well, we can't have "bump" be our latest post!

I ran the Martian half marathon last weekend--after also helping out the two previous days as a volunteer. I had a good race and PR'ed....but didn't. The course measured long since apparently they misplaced the turnaround point. So according to the runners, it was 13.5 and according to the race officials 13.4 Adjustment might be coming. I met Todd (jeanigor) and Susan (mousemgr2), which was nice.

So now it's getting to "weather neurosis" time. Initial way-out forecast shows sun and 46. This would normally make me happy, but it's on the cusp of shorts/T-shirt. If it went up a few degrees it would make the decision easier.

Not much else going on here except I have pulled a muscle in my back/shoulder. Probably a yoga injury! It's just an annoyance at this point, but no matter what I take-ibuprofen, acetominophen, Aleve--nothing helps. I just don't seems to respond to OTC pain meds.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Maura

Hello Goofs,
Long time, no post. We had no internet, phone or cable for a few days, though they happily coincided with a trip out of town, so it wasn't too debilitating. ;)

Still getting my runs in. Had a nice run on Saturday, where the wheels came off completely about mile 17 or 18. It was planned however - I was trying to go on little water and pretty much no food. No, I was not in any danger of dehydration - it was 40-something, and mostly cloudy. And, for the later half of the run, I had water with me, I just was trying hard to avoid using it as often as normal. This weekend will have another 18-20 mile run, although I will be using water and Gu this time, thankfully.

Two broken toes, Suzanne? I hate to hear that. Hope you're healing nicely and not in too much pain.

Sending lots of good Boston vibes your way, Maura. Can't wait to hear all about it. I've noticed lots of Boston Marathon jackets at the coffee shop I frequent post-run on Saturday and they always make me think of you.

Jeanne, I may be registering for the Hershey half. My BFF lives nearby, so it makes a great excuse to visit her. We'll have to have some kind of WISH meet if there are a lot of us doing the race.

Mini race report: I ran the Talladega 21000 (half marathon) on Sunday. The race benefits prostate cancer research, and my father-in-law had a radical prostatectomy two days before the race, so I just had to do it. I'm happy to say I have a new PR (2:25:50) despite the fact that the last lap around the track was pretty warm. The race will be held in the fall next year, and that should be an improvement.

Hey Maura- guess what I did today.....
Stuffed race packets for the Boston Marathon as a volunteer for the Alzheimers Association

What to know what's in them and the color of the shirt:rolleyes1 !!

Hi all, I'm Savannah. Will be running Chicago as my first full this fall, and am seriously considering Goofy in 2012. Nice to meet you!

Joanne They showed the race shirt in the runner info book they sent us. I like the look of it (especially since the jackets are balck and green. I always associate Boston with blue and yellow) I'll go for the "surprise" for the rest. Honestly, race packets have never done that much for me--maybe it's because there's never been anything really good in them!

Rich Good luck with your upcoming races. Was the "no food/water" an experiment?

Kim Congrats on your new PR!

Savannah You'll have lots of company at Goofy next year. I haven't signed up yet, but have mentally committed to do it.

AFM....last long run (10 miles) in new shoes today. My old ones have about 360 miles. So now I can either race in the new or old. Honestly, I don't think it will matter. They're the same model.

Also, the Martian Marathon people adjusted the half marathon results. So now I own a 1:48:23 half-- a new PR.

Time for bed......

Maura

Toes are healing nicely, black and blue marks are gone!

Got my medal in the mail last Thursday!

Love reading everyone's race reports!

Savannah - I'm also running Chicago as my first full marathon this fall! I'm hoping to go Goofy in 2013.

Training has been sketchy at best over the last couple of weeks. My husband and I are doing the South Beach diet, and I'm just not eating the right things to fuel a decent run. Thankfully, that will change this weekend. I don't think I've ever looked forward to oatmeal in my life, but it will be a welcome change over the last two weeks! Today I finally got out to one of the trails I like and struggled to make it through two laps (5.4 miles). My long runs have been pretty nonexistent lately, so I'm looking forward to going some decent distances soon! Hopefully most of the nasty weather is behind us now.

Just swinging by for a quick hello! I hope everyone is doing well. We had a taste of summer last weekend and it got up to 80 on Sunday! I got out for a beautiful, sunny run! It was so nice! I have decided that I am done running in the cold! Unfortunatly, the weather turned back to typical cold, rainly spring weather, so I am stuck for a few more weeks, probably.

Maura-Good luck this weekend! Hope things go well!

Hey there Goofs. Seems like there hasn't been much posting around here recently.

MauraHope everything goes awesome for you Monday. Congratulations on the PR too.

Savannah Good luck in Chicago. If your going to do Goofy you can get $70 off with a Disney Visa in addition to lowered registration price if you register by April 24th

Rich What were you testing with no food and water?

Suzannehope the toes are continuing to heal.

My runs have been pretty weak recently, but I think I'm going to pull the trigger on Goofy in the next day or 2 and that'll give me something to train for.

I did get to do the Castaway Cay 5k with my son. It was a fun little run, but it was really hot.

Hey Maura-
How was BOSTON!!!:banana::cheer2:
I was thinking of you yesterday. The weather was amazing that day and I hope it was everything you WISHed for

Hi all,

Back from Boston and finally wrote up a trip report on a sparate thread. Short version: amazing experience, disappointing race (time & execution) I thought I could do better. Oh well.

Rich I thought of you when I was running behind a guy who was doing his 37th or so Boston Marathon. He had his stats listed on the back of the shirt--including his continuous run streak of well over 11,000 days---over 30-something years. But I knew he was fanatical when I noticed that that included the day of--and following 4 days---his heart attack!

So now I will rest for a while and figure out what's next. Other than putting in some bike miles for a July trip out to Whidbey Island, I hav no plans.

Maura

So I think I'm going to register for Boston again (or try--they've changed the procedures and we'll see if I can get in). This means I won't do Goofy this year. BUt I'd like to go to WDW for Marathon weekend and run a half as training. What I need is a partner for the marathon relay. No one I can think of at them moment.

Got out for a nice, but tiring, bike ride today. And the weather is beautiful, so all in all a pleasant weekend.

Maura

Hi there, Goofs. I hope all is going well. Sad to say, I've been slacking with my training. I've been leading a Galloway Getting Started group, and my mileage matches theirs lately. Luckily, our marathon group starts on Saturday, with our target race being the BHAM Marathon on November 20. But the bad news is, I'll be on a bus heading for Washington, DC with a bunch of 5th graders that morning and won't be able to run for a week unless I can get another parent to watch my charges while I sneak out. (Not likely)

Hey Goofs! I am super excited to say that I am done with my grad classes...at least for a couple weeks!:banana::banana:

From reading, it looks like I have not been the only slacker here. The weather here has just been sooo yucky! I am sick of running in the cold and rain or running on the TM. I do have a 5K this weekend, though, so I have been trying to pick it up a bit these past few weeks.

Maura-Great job finishing Boston! Good luck trying to register again!
