2011 Planning - join me!

We will be taking our boys back to the World during the third week of August. Looking at staying at the Contemporary Resort again - just seems like home to us. Seems so far away.:sad1: Can not wait to do some hard planning!

Hello, from a fellow Nutmegger! (Also in central CT!) My DS17 will be 18 at the time of our '11 trip and my DD1 will have just turned 2. When DS was little, I almost always pulled him out of school the week before or after Spring or Winter Break to avoid the crowds. We went once in July, but it was ridiculously hot, and February was cold enough for jackets and long pants. We're planning early April 2011, the week before his Spring Break next year. Easter is late in 2011 (April 24th) so we'll go April 7th-17th and then he'll have the week of the 19th to decompress over the actual Spring Break. The weather is usually great in April - warm and not TOO rainy - even if the crowds are a bit larger.

Happy planning!!!

Nice to hear from you dreams! We are in Wethersfield, how 'bout you? We are tossing around dates. 1. the very end of June (right after the last day of school) 2. July or August (maybe free dining ) 3. beginning of January (not sure about the weather. We are warm weather folks, prefer hot to cold!) So may more things to plan around with the older kids. Between sports, dance class and recital, mid term exams, proms, etc. it is so hard to find a good time. I guess I could have worse thing to think/worry about :)

I can't wait for 2011. We are planning on Beginning of October 2011. DD has a fall break, so I wont have to pull her out of school this time. :goodvibes It will be great as it will be baby's first trip to the world, and we will be celebrating having no debt at all including the house. Also since both kids will hopefully be sept babies we will celebrate their birthdays. I'm already planning and can't wait to book. :woohoo::cool1::thumbsup2:banana:

How soon can I expect to be able to book for Oct 2011? Jan 2011?

Oh and we are planning on staying a the Coronado Springs Resort, DD loved the picture of the water slide and pool.

I'm just not sure when, it depends on job situations and school breaks. We will have to stick to school breaks, so it will either be president's week or spring break in April. I'm hoping to stay at either Poly or BC, but we may end up in two rooms at a mod - still trying to decide.

Glad to see others are just as fanatical about planning as me! We took our first trip last year and had the most amazing family vacation we have ever taken!

We have a son (16) that is disabled and can't participate in a lot of things we do on vacation so my husband or I end up sitting out on certain activities to stay with him. NOT so at Disney! He could participate in everything and noone felt left out!

That said, we have decided we have to go back as much as possible! :yay:

So, we are heading back down in the fall of '11. We are trying to decide whether to go in late September or early December. Kinda want to go for all the Christmas decorations, but with a family of 5, free dining sure was nice!!
I love that your whole family was able to participate. I love Disney for this. I would recommend Dec. but not the first week but the second. Keep an eye out to she popwarner is over, then go the day after they leave. It will be just before winter break. I enjoyed the weather, even though we did have some rain and wind and then some sun. I much rather stay cool than deal with the heat. The decorations are wonderful and you can see Santa then too.

We're in! Just bought a new house and will be using our tax rebate for a trip in 2011!!!! Can't wait. I will have 1DD in college, 1 DD a junior in high school, and 1 DS in kindergarten so I am not sure when would be the best time to go. I am not totally opposed to taking them out of school as I would be prefer not to go during a school vacation. Did that once and the crowds were outrageous. Sept and Oct are pretty much out as DD plays a high school sport and can't miss a week of school. DH works for a large company that doesn't allow vacations in Nov and Dec as their business dramatically increases around the holidays. Hoping for lowest crowds possible! Any ideas/suggestions? I am so excited to plan even if it is over a year out!
What about earlier in 2011? Say Feb-early May?

I too am planning to make a return in 2011. Not sure when but hopefully earlier in the year. I have 1DD in college and she is a mommy to 1DS. We also have my other DD who is out of school and plus both have their other half's that want to come. My DH is refusing to go though:scared1: He says he is not doing anymore Disney. He gives me a hard time about my love for it too. So oh well his loss.:thumbsup2 But not even sure the rest of the family will even come as they need to pay their own way.:rolleyes1 Well I will help but I must see a bit of help in this. I will take my DGS who will be 2 then and I don't want him to miss out on any fun times.:cool1: I am also in talks with friends and some other family members trying to talk them into coming. One set has never been and it would be fun to show them around.:cheer2:

ACK! Now I'm totally confused!!! I had decided on March 5-12, but still nervous about weather. Partly because I had Completely ruled out all of April due to high crowds, and May won't work for us because DS will have state testing in school beginning of the month, then sports completely take over.

But now....was just looking at Touring Plans calendar (I sub), and the numbers for April 2011 aren't bad at ALL. March 5-12 is 4's and 6's. April 9-16 is 5's and 6's, one 4. Not very much difference!!!!!!!!!! Should I reconsider?? Everything is so weird with Easter so late next year. But so many schools don't tie Spring Break in with Easter, I really thought all of April was out of consideration. Now I'm waffling!! I really want warm weather, the kids just love to swim, we want to do a water park (pref. Blizzard Beach), and I REALLY don't want to be wearing a winter coat in FL, even at night. So I think April would be better for all that. But DH's main priority is lower crowds. He doesn't like to wait in long lines. 20 minutes tops, really. So what do you all think??? I'd love any advice!

I think it's hard to predict the weather a year in advance, but April is probably better for water parks as a rule. We were there March 3-7 this year, and my SO wore his ski jacket the whole week.

We're going March 4-13 next year, and hoping it's a little warmer.

Already got one planned....11/1/2011. WDW's 40th! :cool1:

I may have another one in June...it's mine and Kenny's 5th wedding anniversary. :lovestruc

The first and only time I have been to Disney World so far is in May. Got there May 14 and stayed for 7 nights, and my husband and I both felt it was ideal. The weather was great! It rained twice- once for about 5 minutes, and another time for a couple hours and that was it. It got a little warm if you were standing in the sun, but not bad, not much humidity. We spent a day at Blizzard Beach, perfect weather. I had a light sweatshirt, just in case I needed it, and only wore it a couple times in the evening.
We felt the crowds were manageable. We did stand in line for Soarin' for about an hour, but we were still learning the FastPass system, and we slept in every morning so were not at rope drop. Obviously we could have avoided that wait by utilizing the mornings and FastPasses better! We are going to need to do that on our next trip in July! I would definitely recommend May for weather and crowds.

I know, we've been twice in May and just LOVED it!!!!!!! Won't work for us for 2011, though. DS will likely have state testing that first week (when we've gone before), and then sports really pick up. He plays travel baseball now and would miss games. Plus, DH would really like me to pick a different time because he farms (part-time, in addition to his regular job) and if the weather is nice here in May (big IF!!), he misses so much.

UGH, now I am wondering about May. We did our second trip in May and it was really wonderful. Hhmm? I know my youngest would prefer may over any other dates I have said. Guess will see what special come along later this year for that time frame. We can go just about any time so the specials will be the big part in our planning.

I'm kind of feeling the same way. Right now we're planning on a January trip because the crowds (and the price) will be lower. I'm worried about the weather. Our other choice is to go in April ( I can't wait musch longer than that ;),) but I am so worried about crowds. Plus lower prices mean a longer trip if we go in January. I keep thinking that the numbers on Touring Plans will go up though.

we've gone in January 3 times now and have found the weather to be delightful. This year, we just missed the cold snap fortunately. Crowds, for the most part have been fantastic, too. We found the best weather and crowds to be around marathon weekend.

Planning to be in WDW for the Disney Marathon in JANUARY 2011 - don't know where I'm staying yet, because I don't know if I am traveling with DH Or a few girlfriends!

We're doing January 5-12 because it's just most convenient for us. Plus, we'll get out of Chicago's probably 8 degree weather and down into Florida. Since we're coming from Chicago, we'll have our coats from traveling, so if there happens to be a cold snap, we'll be prepared. Plus, I know how the weather can change, so I'm going to be reminding my friends to pack a myriad of clothes and definitely bring a hoodie or something.

Both times I've been there in January, the parks were pretty dead. I think I'm the only person on this board who doesn't use Touring Plans or anything like that :rotfl:

Can you start one for 2012??

Just kidding, but I sure am jealous you guys all get to plan already!!

There is a 2012 thread. :goodvibes At least the time goes faster than you think. When we started out vacation ticker was over a year!

Thanks for all the feedback about January. My son goes to school year round so he's off the first 3 weeks of January. Right now we're thinking of being there sometime around marathon weekend. Probably either the 3rd-12th or the 5-14th. How busy is MLK weekend?

I think we've narrowed down our choices to POR or WL for September 2011 (starting September 13th for 7 days). Since it's my husband's first trip, I'd love for him to experience the "grandness" of WL. Although, POR will be much cheaper. :confused3 What do you all think? Any suggestions?

I did take a look at another site that recommended NOT going in September - the height of hurricane season. I'm hoping the chance of a hurricane is slim!

And...is any one else feeling like every where you turn, there is something to remind you of WDW? Ugh! If I see any more commercials, advertisements, etc.... It's such a tease!

We went in April for Spring break in 2006 and the crowds were heavy so we vowed to never do it again. But now I am totally up in the air :confused3!Will the crowds be lower with the late Easter holiday. My kids have their Spring Break the week before that and would love to not take them out of school but, like your DH, lower crowds is my main priority! As far as weather, April was plenty warm. We went to TL and swam in the pool! HELP!! When to go, when to go...?
