Hey there runners!

My husband, my parents, and myself are considering running in the 5K Royal Family Race. We are not too fit (we each could loose a couple of pounds but probably wouldn't be classified as overweight) and don't excerise enough. My dad is nearing his 60s and my mom is 55.

Would this be a good first race for us? We would start training immediately. Also, any ideas how quickly this race would fill up? We don't want to miss out if it will work for us! And, none of us have to run in the Half Princess to run the Royal Family, correct?

Any info you can share on this race? Ultimately I'd love to be able to run the Half Princess but doubt I'll be ready by Feb. to run 13 mi!

Thanks in advance! :goodvibes

It's a fun 5k as most Disney races are. I would actually target a few 5k's locally. It's 6+ months out and you should be good to do a 5k say around Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. These would give you a great sense of accomplishment and would push you to get with it now rather than wait for new years to train....

See above on starting now. The best advice about filling is to bookmark the page and watch. % filled numbers appear once it hits 50%. Plan on entering by 75-80% to assure a spot.

Actually I would argue that with deligent planning and training you can make the half in 2011 and finish successfully. its 27 weeks out (or something like that) If you ran 1 mile next Saturday following a run/walk program (running 2 minutes and walking 1) then added just a half mile every weekend you would hit the race distance two weeks out.

Do not sell yourself short. Think about it. If you believe you can you will.

Thank you so much for your help Coach, I really appreciate it. We started the Couch to 5K plan yesterday and are looking for local 5Ks in our area. I'm still thinking about the half!

Thanks again!
