Has anyone read about the new volunteer promo? It's 'give a day, get a day' so starting 1/1/10 you can go online and sign up to volunteer. When you complete your volunteer day, you get a one day park admission (or a special fastpass for the day for you + 5 people or ears w/limited edition pins or you can donate your ticket.)

I like this a lot better than the birthday promo because it is so hard to go on one of my family's birthday let alone all 4 of us. This way, we can all volunteer and take advantage of the 'deal'. And we are giving back to the community at the same time!

So what does everyone think of this promo???

This sounds great! I agree, it's hard to get to WDW on birthdays, and with this promotion it gets people to volunteer.

Going through the links, I can't seem to find out if the organizations I volunteer for are eligible. I realize that Disney is letting a third party manage that side of the promotion but I'd hate to see this end up becoming some kind of issue with "why does that organization qualify and not this one" types of problems. I do want to be clear that I think it's a great idea. I just wish there was more information about the eligible organizations before releasing the promotion.

I was really excited until I saw that I would have to drive over an hour to get to an organization that participates. It is a shame since I volunteer at our local foodbank, on board of directors for youth soccer program, and a girl scout leader but none of those count towards this. Oh well I will still do my volunteer work and still go to disney. :thumbsup2

Where are you finding the links for organizations that qualify for this promo??
Thanks!!

I'd like to know too! When I click on the links, I get a message to keep checking because they will update the site with the applicable organizations at a later date.

If you go to disney website where they discuss the promotion and then go to the FAQ section the organization they are using ( I think called helping hands) there is a link and you click on that. It takes you to the helping hand organization and you put in your state and it will give you the organizations that are participating. There were about 9 for my state but they are all over an hour away.

I think that there is a good chance they will add more organizations. If you go to the Disney Parks website you can sign up for an email reminder to sign up for the promo in January.

I think this is a great promo and I can't wait to see what volunteer opportunities are available. I agree, it is so hard to go on birthdays. We went for my DD 6th b-day and was at St. Pete Beach until her birthday and didn't get to Disney until the day after. We would have had to give up a Beach day in order to go on her b-day, so no free pass or GC for her.

But, I wonder if I will be able to let my son do it. He won't be 6 until September, but if I wait till then to sign him up, all of the tix may be gone. I hope they let him sign up right away to volunteer after September.

Either way, sounds like a wonderful promo!

When I read this thread I thought that you actually volunteered as a CM! I can see myself picking up litter at MK to get the next day free! I don't care what I am doing- as long am I'm at WDW. Well- maybe not cleaning toilets.

I actually thought the same thing when I first heard about the promo. I thought "wow Disney must be having financial difficulty if they need volunteers to work there "

I see that the vouchers you get from volunteering do have some restrictions, for example you cannot use the voucher during Easter week. Darn!!

Thanks for telling us about this! I didn't know you could sign up for a reminder, I'm going there now!

How long do you think it will take the organizations (ours is United Way) to confirm our volunteering has taken place? We could do something the first part of January, but we will be coming to DisneyWorld the end of January and I want to make sure it gets credited in time. What do you all think?????:confused3

Can it be upgraded to multiple days or annual pass? I know the one-day tickets that were donated by Disney to our charity event last January could not be upgraded, they were one day, that's it. If you wanted to go 4 days you could use that charity donated ticket for 1 day then you had to buy a 3-day ticket for the rest. So it actually was only worth full value if you were only going for 1 day, if you wanted multiple days it only helped you by allowing you to one less day on your multi-day.

From the FAQ

May I upgrade my free one day ticket to an Annual Pass or multi-day ticket?

Yes, you may upgrade the free ticket to another ticket type of greater value. However, the Guest is responsible for the incremental cost and the new ticket may only be used by the Guest.
