*** 2010-2011 *** Cheer Parent Thread

UCA Nationals were a huge hit for our gym!!! Our Senior L4 team WON!! 1st place level 4 small gym small squad. Our Small Junior 3 team won 2nd place and were only .3 out of first  The killer was that they ended up in 2nd because one stund never went up and the follow through of that stund also was fumbled...turns out that the reason why it didn't go is because one of the bases threw up all over the flyer as they were setting the stunt :headache: The coach couldn't see what happened because in the stunt group the bases back is to the crowd so it shielded her view...if she had seen it she could have stopped the routine and they could have marked the beginning and continued from there. They continued from there and hit everything despite a few girls being "soiled" GROSSSS.....

Anyway, we were sooo proud of our girls!!!

On a total side note, CJA's reality show Jersey Cheer will be debuting on Lifetime April 5th...can't wait to see it, they were filming at a UCA qualifier we went to in November & our team actually beat them so I am wondering if any of our teams footage will be shown.

Despite the messiness of it all congrats to your girls and teams!!!! We didn't do well last weekend (2nd places across the board with drops and what nots) but this weekend we did AWESOME! Sr's did still have some issues but still pulled it through. It's frustrating when not only does the stunt NOT go up but then the follow through stunt can't go up (which also happened in our case). UGH! I'm kinda ready for next season but at the same time I'm ready for a break.

Getting on a plane for Anaheim today. Anybody else going to be at American Showcase in Anaheim?

Last competition for the season. Our Small Small team and our IO6 still have Worlds, but the rest of us are officially done come Sunday. I am ready. But really no break as tryouts are April 18. And practices start 2nd week of May.

Ready to be done here, too. We have a 2 day competition this weekend, then all levels the next weekend.

D has been tumbling in pain for 6 months. She says she is "broken." The orthopedist says she needs a full 6 weeks of rest, plus physical therapy. We certainly haven't had 6 weeks off, so I'm trying to arrange for a rest after all levels. The school cheer coach is okay with it. Now I have to ask the all star coach if she can skip team evaluations.

I hope she is able to get the break she needs. Our teams are heading to Final Destination Virginia Beach this weekend & All-Levels in Philadelphia the following weekend.

This weekend will be interesting since our J3 team lost 2 people this week and there is no one who is able to fill in, so they are trying to rework the routine in 1 day :scared1:

Last competition for us is Mother's day in Hershey :cool1:

Our season wrapped up 2 weeks ago and we went out with quite a bang! My dd's senior L3 team finally won a national title! They had such a roller coaster year, so many ups and downs. They won many competitions but for some reasons every national competition they ran into problems. Injuries, penalties, dropped stunts... it was a rough year for these kids. So, to see them finally win at a big, national show was extra sweet. The kids were crying, the coaches, were crying, the parents were crying. It was the prefect ending to the gym's very successful first year.

Her Jr L2 team won every single comp they went to except 1. The team that beat them is a local rival but we came back to beat them twice afterward, including this last comp. What a fabulous year!

Next week starts parent info meetings for next year then the week after is try-outs. My dd is trying out for the L4 team :scared1: She doesn't have L4 tumbling skills but she rocks at the stunting. Her coach is willing to put someone on a team based on potential, so she has a chance. Personally, I'd rather see her on the JR team another year. I think L4 will be crazy pressure but I trust her coach. Wherever she places her is surely the place she belongs. We'll see.

Good luck to everyone on their last competitions! And then on tryouts as well. I look forward to another crazy season with all of you!

I'm so happy for you! I wonder if it will ever happen for D's team. That is why they were so crushed when they lost at ACA by a couple of hudredths of a point.

We were in Anaheim. My niece's J2 small took 1st. They had some tough competition against a team from New Zealand. Next week they have a small competition, then All-levels Worlds in Long Beach. She's not sure what to do next year. She's 14 and has been cheering since age 5.

We were in VA this past Sun. Our Sr. LVL 4 came in 3rd place though. Dropped 2 stunts right at the end of the routine. :( We head to Myrtle Beach this weekend for our last comp. I'm ready for a break and next season!

DD10 is somewhat in the same position with where to be next season. The coach wants her on YLvl 2 again but also on Jr Lvl 3. I prefer 1 team though since she'll be in 5th grade and this year doing 2 teams has been hard on her. She has tumbling for lvl 3 but her stunting is shaky. ;) She also still has her moments when she breaksdown if she thinks they lost cause of her or the coach fusses. The mommy in me wants her to do Y Lvl 2 again just so it's fun and less stressful. She has time (to me) to grow up and be on Jrs. :goodvibes

Anywho...good luck to your DD. :goodvibes

Good luck in Myrtle Beach! Our Senior 4 team competed in small gym small squad and got 1st :cool1: Our J3....let's just say they didn't get last :rotfl:

My dd8 is in the same spot as your dd. Our tryouts aren't until July but she is slated to be on the Jr3 and Y2 teams. I also want her to do 1 team only being so young, but at our gym it is expected that you cross over to "help out" the lower team.

Congrats!!

Those New Zealand teams were good! You are Cali, right? Your teams are so amazing to watch! We were part of the very loud sea of yellow shirted parents. :goodvibes

We had a fun end to our season. Our gym brought 8 teams and we came home with 5 wins and 2 seconds.

My Niece's (really more my daughter) team won, so she was happy. All in all, our J1, S2, JC5, J4 and Y3 teams won. Our Y2, large S3, and large SC4 all came in 2nd.

My niece has decided to take a year off. Hopefully she will come back next year.

Good luck to all that are still preparing for their last competitions, All-Levels and Worlds.

Were you with Cheer Carolina All Stars? My dd cheers for Gravity Cheer (Intensity). If that is you we just watched you on the dvd at the gym tonight...they looked so great, those 2 drops were so unfortunate. Good luck in Myrtle Beach! We were supposed to compete on Long Island this Sat but the event was cancelled, but our coed 4.2 & lv4 are heading to All Levels!

Yep that was us! Your gym was really good too! The girls actually didn't mind loosing to you but would have liked to come in 2nd because I really think they were better than the other two teams. :goodvibes Congrats to your Sr's and your DD!!!!

Myrtle Beach went well even though our Y2 team had a last min change due to a sick child. They still came in 2nd out of 7 teams. :goodvibes Everyone else came in 1st but our Sr's didn't have any competition. The coach let them go level 5 since we have some girls graduating so that they could do their last performance and show all their skills. ;) Overall it was a fun competition but driving back through the tornado's was NOT fun. Now on to next season. :goodvibes

Today is my daughter's try out for her gym's 2011-2012 season! She's nervous and excited. We know she'll make some team, but the try out determins which one.

I got my fingers crossed she makes it on the one she wants!

We thought your team was getting second also...I guess the judges don't see things the way we do :confused3 Glad everything went well in Myrtle Beach & that everyone got home safe.

Our gym still has 2 weeks (and 3 competitions) to go. We head to On Tour in Baltimore & Asbury Park & then close out the season in Hershey Park on Mother's Day weekend. We don't have tryouts until July 9th, so plenty of time for the parents to speculate on team placement

Our 2 senior teams went to All-Levels in Philly on Sunday & S4 got 1st & our SeCoed 4.2 got 2nd, which was great considering during cross tumbling our first tumbler slipped, and then an entire row of girls couldn't cross tumble because she was in the way. Overall a good showing although not our best.

Good luck to all heading to Worlds next week!!

There is going to be some stiff competition. Our small small team is competing against 60 other teams :scared1: I don't know how many are in the IO6 division, but there are some awfully good teams there too.

Good luck to all going through evaluations in the next weeks. Fingers crossed that you all get placed on the teams you hope for.

Our evaluations were this past week. Now it is practice group time and teams will be announced in July. I am a bit bummed as DN (my other daughter) decided to take a year break to focus on her first year of high school. Can't fault her for putting her education first, but the discipline she learns from cheer is very beneficial to her.
