Walt Disney World has a special program effective October 24, 2010 and running through October 1, 2011 for members of the United States armed services, their dependents and guests. This post discusses the program and is broken into three major sections: Eligibility, Entitlements, and Procedures for participating.

Eligibility and Definitions

A service member has a current active duty, including active reserve, or retired ID card from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corp, or Navy. This includes disabled veterans whose ID Card indicates DAVPRM.

A dependent is the spouse or other relative of a service member who has an ID card (DD Form 1173) which shows the service member as the sponsor.

A guest is any person not a dependent accompanying the service member.

Not eligible on their own are persons who would normally have access to military bases and/or Shades of Green (SoG) such as DoD Civilians, NAF, USPHS and veterans who are not retirees. This list may include others. People who fall into this category may, however, be dependents or guests.

Tickets and Entitlements

A service member may purchase up to six “4-Day Disney’s Armed Forces Salute Ticket” at $138 (plus tax) each, without regard to age. At the time of purchase the service member must choose between the ticket being a Park Hopper or the ticket having the WPF&M option. A ticket with both is available for $165. There is no Base ticket available. (As normal, people under age 3 do not require tickets.) These may be used by dependents or guests. The name of each dependent and/or guest will be recorded in ATS, tied to the service member’s name, and will be printed on the ticket.

The Tickets will expire Midnight, Saturday, October 1, 2011, even if all entries have not been used. The initial entitlements for the ticket is a four days Park Hopper or with the WPF&M Option included. For $27 (plus tax) park hopping may be added to a ticket purchased with the WPF&M Option. For $27 (plus tax) four WPF&M entries may be added to a ticket purchased with Park Hopping. The normal 14 day rules concerning expiration and upgrade do not apply. However, no additional days may be added and the ticket may not have the No Expire option added.

The Tickets may be upgraded to Annual Passes, Premium APs, Disney Premier Pass, Florida Resident Seasonal Passes, or Florida Resident Weekday Select Passes (with proper Florida ID). The normal 14 day upgrade period does not apply. However, there will not be “price bridging”; this means that the value of the ticket will be what was paid for it ($138 or $165) and not the current gate price of an equivalent MYW ticket. If the ticket is upgraded to an annual product the expiration date will be one year from the date of first use of the Ticket.

As an exception, if the immediate family has more than five dependents, additional Tickets may be purchased, but not to exceed the number of dependents. If the immediate family has more than five dependents tickets may not be purchased for guests.

If the service member is not available the spouse or unremarried widow may purchase and/or activate up to five Tickets for family and guests. The special large family rule above applies. This purchase will not prevent the service member from receiving their ticket at a later date, but this will make the service member ineligible to purchase any additional tickets. Note that the Dependent ID Card (DD Form 1173) must show a relationship of either "Spouse" or "Unremarried Widow" to be able to activate the tickets.

Block Out Dates

There are specific dates around Christmas/New Years, Easter, and the 4th of July where the tickets will be blocked out and you will not be able to enter a park on those dates. At this posting I do not have the exact dates, but this will be updated shortly.

Procedures and Purchasing

There are three sources available. Two of these sources are Shades of Green or many (but not all) MWR/ITT offices. These are not “live” tickets but must be activated. The advantage to purchasing these is that sales tax is not collected on the Tickets.

The third source is Walt Disney World Park Ticket Offices (including TTC) and Guest Relations Offices (including DTD). Sales tax will be collected on any sales of Tickets or upgrades. Note that these cannot be purchased at any Resort Lobby Concierge or online.

Certain information from the service member’s ID will be entered into ATS (Name, Birth Date, base where assigned, address, telephone number and e-mail address) and the names of all Ticket holders will also be entered and tied to the service member. If the tickets were prepurchased (MWR/ITT or SoG) the person will get the same card back. If these are new tickets, the tickets will be printed by ATS.

Once activated the tickets may be used at any turnstile. Finger scans will be used. In the event a ticket becomes demagnetized they can be reissued just as any other ticket.

If you have unused non-promotional tickets and wish to have them applied to the purchase of Tickets, this may be done provided the value of the unused tickets is equal to or less than the value of the tickets being purchased or upgraded. You cannot use a GAD ticket to upgrade to an Armed Forces Salute ticket.

Thank you so much for confirming this great offer! I have a question, or looking for a suggestion really, on what tickets would be the best for my group. My Mom and I are planning a family get together at WDW in May 2011 for 8 days; there will be 7 of us with 6 being 10 and over. I don't think buying six 4 day hoppers to use after the Salute 4-day tickets are used is a budget friendly option. Could at least 3 adults use 2 Salute tickets to cover the 8 days and then the rest (3 adults and 1 child) :banana:buy regular 8 day hoppers? Both Mom and Dad have eligible ID cards. Thanks for any help or suggestion!

When you say both have eligible ID cards, are they both in (or retired from) the military, or is one the service member and the other having a DD1173 indicating spouse?

If they each have regular military ID (or retiree) cards then they each are eligible for six tickets. If only one qualifies on their own, then a total of six as the tickets are tied to the service member.

At the time I have posted this I have gotten my information from a couple of people where I work. I do not expect to see the official announcement itself until another day or so.

That said, to the best of my knowledge there is nothing to preclude three people each using two tickets for a total of six days. However, some of the ticketing people may not have the same attitude. So my suggestion is to buy (or activate if bought off-site) only three of the tickets at a time. Also, this will prevent the possibility of messing them up especially if you do hopping.

So if we purchase a 2 day park ticket (approx. $160) in order to particpate in free dining in August, we are not able to exchange the 2 day ticket for the Armed Forces Salute ticket because the 2 day ticket value is higher than the cost of the Armed Forces Salute? I wouldn't mind "losing" some of what I pay for the 2 day ticket if I could end up with the 4 day ticket.

Is there an official link with this information? I really want to send this to some family members, but they won't believe me unless it's "official." (I believe you though!!!! :))

Cheshire, Thank you for the clarifications. Mom is indeed a spouse, so we are limited to the six 4-day hopper tickets. Given that I believe the best for us would be for Mom, Dad and one sister to use the six Salute tickets to cover their eight day stay. The remaining three adults and one child would at least benefit by buying eight day hoppers on base or at SOG. Thank you again for your help and wealth of knowledge! :tigger:

Thanks for the news Cheshire. If only I could talk my mom into a trip than I could get two trips since she is an Unremarried widow and I am 100% disabled.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in the TPA&S Forum, Post #17, you can get a lot more information. I have gotten the official notice and have updated the sticky with the current official information.

An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

Cheshire I have a question. I need to order tickets before our Halloween trip to be able to order magic bands. I am in between military duty. I got out a couple of years ago due to a death and I am currently trying to reenlist. If I am able to get a current ID card (reenlist) before my trip I will be buying salute tickets.

My question is this. If I order one day tickets now and end up having to save them for a later trip will I have trouble again using them. My kids are 17,18 and 22. They may not want to come next time. The last time this happened I had a hard time exchanging or upgrading the tickets at the MK office because they had other names on them.

Why does Disney force you to buy tickets on a package and then not allow you to exchange them or upgrade them on later trips ?? Any advice will be helpfull. Thanks

Above is a link for the current Armed Forces Salute Tickets. You can only purchase them with a valid military ID and they are good until Sept 2014. They have 3 options with this ticket package: 4 day park hoppers, 4 day water park n' more, or 4 day with both. Please note that there are block out dates that apply to these tickets.

I don't think you can upgrade a single day ticket to this package. That's not to say that you couldn't purchase a regular priced ticket now and then just have an extra day at the parks if you DO get your military ID and can get the Salute tickets.. but it's my understanding that this offer is pretty separate from any other ticket offers/deals. :)

I understand the policy of the salute tickets. My issue is with the one day tickets. A single ticket cost around 100 dollars. So it's ridiculous to use it for a single entry or extra day on a salute ticket. Disney front loads their profits on tickets. My issue is a year or two later when I try to use them. Even though (I) purchased the single tickets I have to put a name on it now and if that person can't return later Disney doesn't want to honor the ticket. This happened to me last time I went and purchased a package with one day tickets attached.

Last time I had to use the single tickets for a one day entry and then separately purchase 7 day hopper tickets. Effectively doubling the ticket prices on that trip.

Hello! We have a military friend that has purchased military tix for us for our upcoming trip. It is starting to look like she can not go with us. Can we still use these tickets without her? Thanks!

No.

Why are people bumping all of these old threads?

If they are the current Military Salute tickets, no. The servicemember has to activate the tickets at the ticket window. No way around it. If she bought regular Magic Your Way tickets, yes, you can use them.
